John Ivory 4546 Share Posted August 3, 2015 In a secretive location, unknown to the peoples outside of it, the five Pentarchs of the Ecclesiastical Synod convene together. A lowly monk, sullen of face, permits them entry but bars their exit. Only he holds the key to the make-shift Synod chambers and is expressly forbidden to grant it to any of the Pentarchs, who must remain in council until a new High Pontiff is named. "With the unfortunate murder of High Pontiff Sixtus III, a new High Pontiff must be named among you. He must attain a majority vote among the Pentarchs, three votes of five. The voting will continue until a Pentarch rises to the bear the golden laurels of Horen; write your vote on a slip of paper and grant it to me, and we shall cycle through until the Creator's hand names one of you Pontiff!" The Pentarchs come together, beginning to discuss and debate who should rise to become Vicar of GOD... ______________ ( Please only post if you are Haribo craotor CasualGhost Stigwig. _Stigwig 1510 Share Posted August 3, 2015 Oscar waits for all to be in attendance before rising to give his vote, and then a speech before the gathered cardinals - turned before them fully in his simple priestly robes. “I am stood before you in this moment, before I announce anything regarding this synod - unexpected in nature - to mourn over the loss of our beloved High Pontiff, Sixtus the III. Although I may have clashed with him in my theological pieces, he served me as a tutor and mentor within the Felsenic diocese: overseeing my exams, ordaining me. He was always the one I turned to if I had an issue or dogmatic question. A truly pious man. His cold-blooded murder is truly disgusting to me and I would urge all potential candidates for the Pontifical tiara to beautify him, who was assuredly martyred, and also seek to uncover the Godless killer. And with such finished, I do stand here, as you will no doubt have guessed - to announce an intention to put my name upon the ballot to succeed his Holiness as the Vicar of GOD. I may be young, being only of twenty and six years, but Daniel I was younger. I may be simply a priest, and no bishop, yet Sixtus III - that beloved predecessor - was also no bishop. Were I to ascend to the seat of the High Pontiff, my first goal must be to finish those aims set out by Sixtus III. in his second Golden Bull of Huss - those recently announced canonisations and beautifications. It is honourable to respect the wishes of the dead, and that can surely apply to none more so than the Vicar of GOD on Vailor. These heroes of the Faith that he proposed need to be recognised, regardless of whether the one that put their names forth still breathes or not. I admire his Holiness’ aims to convert the elves, dwarves and orcs that inhabit this land of Vailor, yet I feel in current circumstances even such a peaceful goal was too ambitious. I renounce previous goals for a crusade that I may have urged for before now - the Church comes first. We are in a period of great civil strife, and this will only aid to splinter the Church and by such the Faith more; I am certain none here desire to see sectarianism return once more! I would, if chosen, maintain the ‘Eddictum Neutralitas’ unless new evidence was presented to me and instead work on reparation to the Church. We must build up our churches! Appoint bishops, swell the ranks with priests! The attendance of mass has never been lower and to me this shows that while mass must still be held, we should explore different avenues to spread the word of the Creator to the common man whether at his plough or anvil! I propose that priests begin to work more on travelling constantly around their parish and spreading either simply messages or teaching the Holy Scrolls to those that find on their travels - in dangerous times it is oft impossible to access churches for mass. We must appoint a bishop in Brelus, and Port Vydrik. I would not let this civil rivalry interrupt the spreading of His word: the Church is above Men and their rivalries, above kingdoms. We must ensure our churches are repaired and a haven, both morally and physically, for the bereaved in these times of need. I am aware that codifying dogma was a goal of Daniel I, and I hope to once again encourage this. For new priests it would be wise to have guides on how to perform all sacraments, rather than simply some as we have, so they can quickly immerse themselves in performing these. I would hope to also recover and re-write historical texts and Bulls, to publish to priests a history of sorts for the Church and dogma; to help with exams. Just before his death the High Pontiff announced the formation and creation of the Bishopric of Huss; a goal he did not see completed. In troubling times such as this, the formation of an independent area, free from secular intervention, is in my eyes essential to the survival and continuation of this Church and the Faith as a whole. Oscar, finished in his speech, sits down and mops his brow - eyes scanning the chamber.

CasualGhost 184 Share Posted August 3, 2015 Bishop Cordal approaches the pulpit, looking mournfully up at the Lorraine cross as he ascends. He has done this before. It is his second time, to be exact. Always the politics, always speeches. He tires of it. His elderly bones, not as spry as they had once been, carry him to the top, where he faces the assembled members. "Brothers." he says, taking a deep, ponderous breath. "You know why I am here. I will try to keep this speech concise, for the benefit of our departed leader, Sixtus." his serious gaze hardens. "Who was murdered in cold blood. Such a travesty, such an outrage, cannot be allowed. Certainly not now, in this time of strife and war." "My friends, I am the oldest serving member of this church. I have seen everything happen. I was there when Pontiff Paul was hunted like an animal, and I was there when Simon of Kvaz posted his theses. Indeed, I led this church through the dark times of caesareopapism, and ended that tradition. When it ended, I peacefully stepped down to allow a true election of the High Pontiff, and so was Pontiff Daniel elected, a good personal friend and better High Pontiff. I missed much of his reign during my pilgrimage, and I greatly regret it." "I will guide this church as I have before. Deus Magnus."

John Ivory 4546 Author Share Posted August 4, 2015 The humble monk who collects the votes receives his last submission. He then takes the votes, placing them into a stack, and begins to read them aloud. Oscar Cordal Humbert Humbert Cordal... The monk frowns. "No majority has been met. Another vote shall occur, beginning now." He would then toss the votes into a fire, before handing slips of paper once again to all five Pentarchs. He sighs, awaiting the tally once more. John Ivory 4546 Author Share Posted August 4, 2015 The monk once more collects the votes of the Pentarchs, one-by-one. He collects the final vote, before once more stacking the slips. He begins to read aloud the submissions. "Cordal." "Cordal." "Humbert." "Humbert..." "Cordal." The monk nods, throwing the votes into the second chamber. White smoke wafts out from the chimney above, signifying that a new High Pontiff has finally been elected.
