Amidst the ruins of Godwin's tower, in the eves of the morning at sun's rise as morning dew coats the landscape, a hunched figure steps down from a terrace of broken stone and ruin. With linen wrapped hands, he swaddles a tiny child in old cloth akin to a peasants garb and places him in a cradle of wheat; therein, he places the child on a wagon heading North.

.

Several days later, the child would arrive and be directed toward the Abbess, Lorina Carrion with a letter. It reads sporadically and without composed tempo, changing from first to third person. Once the wagon is out of sight, the man goes to sit on a terrace at the top of the tower.

Dear Cousin,

We are compelled by a debt of charity and blood; refused the laws of nature and man and stripped of composure and honor. More happily we would be to speak mouth to mouth and hear the sweet speech through which the heart is more fondly found, I know not how or why such misfortune has befallen us; though, I would hope to write to you a while.

Several days following the coronation of Lord Barbanov, while working a project on a stable outside the city walls, I was befellen by two dark men in rustic armor. After spouting disposition for a time, they then drew swords and led me off down the river before cutting my hands. They left me by the river's edge, and there I stayed until found by my strelt and taken to Godwin's tower.

I did not want this, but I did not stop it, so I am as much to blame as my brother. I should have heeded those whispering "stop" and showed Hugues a better way; however, what is done is done. I have only regret and sadness that we could not live together and be happy in our Adria.

You have endured hostile evil and assault upon your person before, and I exult at your success cousin; of us all, you have led a path most righteous and noble when set upon in most callous a fashion. If only I may face judgement and not be found wanting, as you have.

I will stay a while, here. I send my regards and my heart, that you may shelter him and teach him a better way. Forgive me for being brief; I must sleep a while yet. As must we all, in time.

With Love,

Eric Sarkozic

The tiny child, swaddled in rags, would find its way into Lorina's arms. She grips the strange letter with a shaking hand, tears running down her cheeks, as she cradles the baby in her other arm. "Oh, Eric," she whispers in a hoarse, soft voice. "Oh, my poor Eric."

She brushes the fabric away from the sleeping baby's face and leans down to plant a kiss on its smooth forehead. "I will protect you. With my life - I will protect you. I promise."

"The child of Eric Sarkozic will be whisked away to sea by Lorina Carrion before the impending Savoyard forces can reach the infant and end his life. Washed across the sea, he will find his way into the hands of a Caliphate royal who adopts him into the Kharadeen family. Many years later, the Creator will speak to him. He shall discover his roots and deliver his people from slavery and into to the Promised Land. These events will be the basis for a new set of Holy Scrolls and commandments delivered to the chosen people..." remarks a grizzled old man - A DIRE FOREWARNING.
