Fimlin 1997 Share Posted October 1, 2015 (edited) -={ The Huscarls of Avar }=- Made up entirely of heavy infantry, the Huscarls of Avar act as a guard-force and army for the Jarl of Avar, aiming to expand the power and defensibility of the island. History The Huscarls derive their origins from when dwarves first settled the Isleof Avar. At first the island was protected only by an unorganized militia of dwarven settlers. However, after the assassination of Skippy Irongut, it became apparent that a military must be organized. Thus the Grandaxe Clan founded the Huscarls, and began to train warriors to support the Clan's cause, and serve the Kingdom more with greater organization. Purpose The purpose is for the Isle of Avar to have a local army for protection, rather than waiting for the Dwarven Legion to sail over. Additionally the Huscarls are the personal army and retinue of the Jarl, trained to be professional warriors and given special rights for their service. Ranks Thraell - Thraellmar are the newly recruited, untrained warriors that upon training and imitation, will achieve the next rank. Thraellmar are not paid until ranking up. Drengr - The Drengmar are dwarves who have received training, but have not participated in battle. After one has participated in a battle, the dwarf will receive the next rank. (given the battle is not a loss that can be blamed on lack of discipline or training). Drengmar are paid for each time they fight. Huscarl - A Huscarl is a hardened veteran of the military and such are meant to form the bulk of the Huscarls. Those who have achieved this rank receive higher quality of gear and supplies, salaries, better access to housing and other rights. Huscarls are payed for every on-duty task. Befhälrik - A Befhälrik is a commanding position that is either permanent or a temporary one-battle promotion. Befhälrikmar are given the same benefits and salaries as Huscarls. Enlist Now!
