Ring of Iron

Oi laddies its meh, Hiebe, leader of the Irongut Clan.... I wish to discus our Kingdoms defenses....

With the threat of the undead pressing near us, Alras being a safe haven for em, we need to step it up!

In the days of King Charles I built a great wall called Teh Ring Of Iron! This would be the las ring of defenses for our Nation above ground.... I Wish to propose to make this wall... out of pure dwarven iron! Yes! Iron blocks will be needed to do this and I hope my king would let me do the buildin'.... If this idea goes through i ask for any extra iron you may have laying around to be donated to our nation to upgrade this great wall. Other upgrades may be needed like a retractable bridge or traps.

King Algrim... me cuzin i ask you to allow this as I fear a great darkness may come soon.... Undead have been silent for far too long and so with this upgrade to our defenses will help us push back the undead even more!

For the Stone my brothers!

I trust ye Hiebe, ye did a great job as Lord Marshal, sad to see ye go. I like yer idea, the Kingdom does have much iron, and minas to do this. But help would be needed, and a great plan. Campington needs to see this too, but I love the idea Hiebe. Would look great and show off our strength in mining, as well as offer us protection.

Waste of iron.

Plus, each iron block is 9 iron ingots. To make a wall around the entire place would require so many iron pieces, its ridiculous the amount you would need.

The cost of such a wall, especially such a wall that would encompass our blasphemous outer city, disturbs me as well. However, I do believe this idea has some merit. God has judged our surface dwellings and found them wanting, and our wise king is leading us back below ground to the proper realm of the Sons of Urgaun. One of the advantages of mountain-living is a reduced area necessary for external defenses. Our efforts at iron-building should be concentrated in constructing a gatehouse, a great bastion, that would defend the inner parts of Kal'Urguan from surface-launched attack. Let the outer works remain as stone, but make the heart of Kal'Urgaun's defenses one of iron!

I disagree wit dis Idea... First t is a waste of iron, second it beh near impossible ta get dis much iron witout donations and I don't tink dat we should ask our boders fer so much fer such a weak ting, iron may be hard but compared ta da bulk of da undead it would beh easy ta break... If I was a citizen I wouldn't donate so much jus' fer dis which prolly won't beh used in da follerin' years anyway considerin' da undead invade from da north and dey mus' get through Oren first and dat Time 'as destroyed Alras. Although dey DO plan ta rebuild da wretched place dat doesn't matter it's also a waste ta build it in Outter Kal'Urguan as it won't be der fer long because of da Crag and we're not rebuildin' it. I'm sorry if some disagree wit meh but dis beh me opinion and if ye want ta overrule me descion go ahead, but beh warned, I, and I'm sure many oder dwarves are, to poor ta donate SO much of a SO valuable resource.

Good to hear all tour responses yes iron is somewhat expensive but still ! Its just an idra and why not then improve our defenses all around I would donate some iron if we all help I'm sure it will happen

Also we cannot forsake the surface we must have open and safe trade routes and with out upper defenses it leaves up open for undead to travel our lands

God has three other strong Sons to whom the surface was given to defend. The Sons of Urgaun are of course bound by holy honor to aid them, but we must not forget that the depths is the realm bequeathed to us by God. All that the Dwarves truly require of the surface is safety enough so that our lumberjacks can fell trees for torches.

Still, some rejuvenation of our surface defenses is in order, just so long as we do not find ourselves violating divine prohibition against surface dwelling. It has been noted by the King Himself that Fort Irongut, which in years past kept safe the road from Kal'Urgaun to the Temple, has fallen into a shameful state of disrepair. As long as we are on the topic of defense, I would like to add that I believe the Fort should be refurbished or even expanded.

Agreed back when the legion was powerful..... do miss those days.... my beard starting to grey a little even..... I feel that all surface dwarves should return to our kingdom or be excited ( like dragon age lol )

One ting i was tinking to is to put a lava trap using pistons on the wall if tat could be possible. It would like not a iron wall, but a lava wall when attacked.

A re-enforced Iron door at the entrance may be a better choice!

Do not waste such a large amount of iron on that wall,

you'd better use it to equip an army of militia with!

I propose that every dwarf residing in Kal'Urguan has to sign up to the militia,

if they're no part of the guard yet,and needs to fight for the defense of the city

when the King calls for it! Don't leave the fighting just to the army when your home is threathened.

Iron equipment could be given freely to each militia member when the time is nigh,

on order of the king the armory doors could open and the citizens could collect

their weapons and armor and prepare themselves for the frey.

Aye, the wall that is near the gate area does need to be fixed, as well as give us more defense. Somehow iron blocks could be involved.
