The Jungle of Secrets...

It was a mysterious place, a place for only the strong. A dense fog usually covered the lower parts. The ground a thick carpet of rich decaying matter. Strange plants of all sorts of colors that glow day and night. Plants that could eat a man whole. Animals of such strangeness they'd please any king's menagerie. Snakes the size of small trees and with deadly bites. Spiders that could weave impossibly huge webs, and kill even large animals. Some jungle trees soared far into the sky, and were many times a man's width. Mountains soared high, their peaks locked in ice and snow. The heat was the worst, all pervading, it leeched a man's strength. Rivers flowed through, stocked with deadly fish and bacteria. This jungle could kill as quick as birth, soars as much as it falls. And amidst all this was a single little group. They navigated the jungle endlessly, searching for....something.

-

Julius was tall, even for a Tairen's standard of height. Long golden locks flowed down to his midriff, some of it streaked with silver. His strength was apparent, though in a wiry sort of way. Tattoos blue and red ran all across his body, in pleasing geometrical patterns. His hearts mark was a star, just to the right of his left eye.Three short spears were strapped across his back. In his hand was a staff, made from one of the ancient bole trees in the jungle. This Tairen was angry, though he did not show it.

"Seeker we can't go on like this!" one tribesman pleaded. "We've lost so many already, for nothing! But yet you insist we go deeper, to search for something we don't even know if it exist!" Another took up the theme. "We want answers, not more questions, I say we head back to the mountains."

Before another could take up this line of thought, Julius quietly arched his eyebrow. Not a man of many words, his action spoke volumes. Everyone quickly trailed off, and silence filled the small encampment. The ring of Tairens looked at Julius, a pleading look on their faces.

Speaking in a quiet voice, one that made people lean forward to listen; "If you wish to go....then go. You did not have to chose the path I set, you can always leave. We still search, and I'm sure answers will come in their own time. Or perhaps you don't suggest we go, but demand? In which case, who challenges me for seeker?"

Seeker

Seeker, the highest position in the Tairen hierarchy. The seeker led them all, led the search for mysteries unknown. The seeker held all the power, and was chosen from among the best of the Tairens. Of course one could always challenge the seeker to a battle. It became apparent no one really wished to test Julius, the Tairens sullenly kicking their feet and muttering. Until one, a youth, stepped forward.

"I do challenge the seeker, to a battle of the mind."

Shocked gasp ensued, as everyone looked doubtfully at this brave if foolish youth. Julius was an expert with the spear, but to test him to a battle of the minds! None could ever best him. Not showing any hint of what he felt on his face, Julius clapped his hands together loudly. "Bring the board"

The Tairens quickly searched through their supply train, and found the board. Checkered in red and blue, it was a beautiful master piece. One each side, pieces of colored stone are arranged. Sitting opposite of each other, Julius grants the first move to his challenger. The game was all of strategy, gambling, and above all, a sharp mind. It could take hours, and this one lasted for nearly a day and night. In the end however, the youth took on a crestfallen look. He was quite a genius, but Julius bested him. Sighing, the youth bared his throat, and gave his own dagger to Julius.

Standing up slowly, Julius regarded the dagger he has in his hand. Sighing, he cocked back his arm, and threw it with all his might... It whirled past the youth, and went hilt deep into a tree behind him. Red sap began to flow, disturbingly akin to a man bleeding out.

"Stand up, boy. I will defy custom just this once. You have a sharp mind, and we will need that as we search. What is your name?"

Eyeing Julius as the crowd of Tairens gasp in surprise, the youth stands up. "Hal, my Seeker."

"Well Hal, know this. Your life is mine now, and you will serve me as no other has. And I have a very important task for you. Take ten searchers, and head for the heart mountain. Explore it, search for an answer of some sort."

Lowering his head in resignation, Hal sets off at once. The mountain at the heart of the Jungle of Secrets has never been reached yet. But Julius was convinced something lay there, maybe a clue to lead him on his path. Either way, it would work in his favor. This young upstart would die, or they'd come one step closer to their goal....

il_fullxfull.694114242_96wj.thumb.jpg.72As the Tiers messengers come racing into the camp, the Treue steps out of the Temple, concerned. The race straight to him, and bow, still in wolf form. They transform back into humans, and begin talking quickly. "Sir... there was this... giant thing... lizard with wings... Custos capital... beat naga..." And with that, they both pass out, trying to get the words out before they caught their breath. The Treue has them brought into the temple, where they are given cool water, and sleep peacefully. When they awake, they pass on their message properly. "There was this massive black lizard in the Custos Capital. It had huge wings, and supposedly beat a group of naga that were attacking the Custos city on this side of the Portal. He was huge, and incredible looking! They called him a "dragon"."

At this the Treue stood, silently evaluating the messengers stories, he nodded, and walked out into the city, where he drew his people's attention. "The Custos have a powerfula lly, called a "Dragon"! He helped them defeat the Naga menace that attacked the Custos city near us, and he may help them destroy the naga and orcish camps that lie near our villages! However, they may also ask him to turn on us! For that, we must find a way to fight this dragon, in the case that this happens!" There is murmuring, remembering what the Dreadlord said to them once before. The people thought that the Treue was going to attempt to contact the Dreadlord, somehow, and ask for his strength after all. However, the Treue was not finished. "This Dragon... it may be naught more than a beast! If that is the case, they are welcome in our town! However, this may also mean that we may be able to adopt their power for ourselves! Thus, I send the messengers back to our tiers, in the Custos Capital, with the task of studying the dragon, and learning how to turn into one themselves, so we may adopt their power, if they will not grace us with it themselves!

At this, the crowd cheers, and they begin to work again, talking animatedly with those around them. After the news from the Treue, the day seems just a little bit brighter.

The Holy Empire of Gracemaria

The Prince sits in his chambers watching out the window as he anxiously awaits word back from his fleet "I pray I did not send them to their doom.."

Admiral Gauis sits in his tent in their forward camp, named Saradomin's Landing, a scout comes inside "Sir, you've got to come see this.." The Admiral is lead by a few of his scouts as they watch the giant mammals. The Admiral stares in awe "I've never seen something so..massive." the scouts keep a sharp eye out "There's wolves too...their pretty big too sir."

Sylvaeri sits in her chapel reading the book at the altar of Saradomin, her attention is stolen as she looks back to see a cloaked man holding a staff standing in the doorway "Oh, so you are still alive." He slowly approaches her "It will be many years before I'm gone Sylvaeri." he stands next to her placing an offering at the altar before remaining silent, she scoffs at him "You reject to join our Order but still pay tribute?" he looks down at her "I simply seek knowledge no one else knows..you've felt it too haven't you?" She frowns looking to the book "I have.." he turns to leave "Then we'll need all the men, courage and power we can muster.." She stands holding the book tightly watching him leave "Safe Travels..Maer'divh." he stops not looking back "May his light guide you forward Lady Sylvaeri."

Days later Admiral Gauis and his men meet Maer'divh "Well...you what the tide dragged in.." Maer'divh looks to the Admiral with a glare "Watch your tongue Admiral. I require supplies.." he holds up a letter, the Admiral cuts him off "I know...you're stealing supplies...its all over their.." Gauis and his men watch begrudgingly as they watch him leave the camp.

As the Black Dragon flew away, the day after the feast, the few scholars not working on the rune-forge, would begin writing grand stories of the Dragon. They would write songs, and stories to tell around the fire. Ingrained within the stories, would even be the occasional ounce of truth. Late at night, mothers would tell their children these stories, to fill their dreams with wonder. It was decided by the scholars, however, that their dragon would not be an antagonist, so one was born; Antitheus, a corrupted Dragon. Antitheus, the corrupted Dragon, who's scale seemed to rot, and Tenebris, the black Dragon, who's scales seemed to hold night itself in them.

As Arcus read the first of the Scholars stories, his eyes gleamed. He snapped the book shut, and looked up at the Scholar who brought it to him.

Arcus: "I will be keeping this copy. if that's alright?"

Scholar: "Of course sir. We have the rough copy back at our work station, so we can make more."

Arcus: "Good. I'm very impressed with this. The introduction to both characters alone is enough to make me excited to read the entire story."

Scholar: "Thank you sir. I will let the other Scholars know. Now, if you'll excuse me..."

And with that, the Scholar left Arcus's hut. Arcus placed his copy of the book on his bed, and went to meet with the council.

Once at the council, he demonstrated his new ability to shift into a wolf, and a bear. The council was impressed, and rather pleased with this, as they had gained a new strength. Brak and Weth also demonstrated their newly gained Beast Soul magic, and informed the council that they planed to begin teaching it to the entire military.

After the demonstrations were finished, the real business began. First, information about the construction of both roads and outposts between Moradin and Lunaria are finished. Iron Weapons were still in production, and not yet ready for militant use. Shields were also being passed out, though the idea to create iron shields to match the weapons was being considered. The Custos had finally gained enough control with the Scorpions to ride them into combat, so training exercises were to begin. Stone Masonry wasn't even close to being ready to put into practice. The first Rune-Forge experiment was finished, and the Scholars who had been working on it were writing a progress report as the council meeting was going on. The new town on the other side of the portal was almost finished, however they needed a name.

As the last topic is brought up, a few names are tossed out, but quickly shutdown, until Lyra proposes the name Draco Anima, in honor of the Dragons upholding their offer, of assistance against the Naga. The council, after discussing the issue, takes a ten minute break to cool down. After the break, the group comes back, and puts it to a vote. The vote is settled 4 to 1 for Draco Anima being the new town. At this, the council adjourns, and each member goes to handle it's separate business.

Ripples of surprise spread throughout the Tairen camp. It would seem Hal had actually returned alive. Him and eight other men looked very worn out, but triumphant. Two of their party were missing, and some Tairen's took that as them being dead. The families of the two lost fall to their knees, wailing. The Searchers line the two sides of the camp, with Seeker Julius waiting at the end. Kneeling before the seeker, Hal then stands and grins.

"The things we have seen! Seeker! The feeling of something became more prevalent the closer we got to the heart mountain. The trees grew far taller the what we have seen, some tall as a mountain in their own right! When we got to the base, we made a rudimentary camp."

"And of the two that have not returned, what has become of them?'

"Well seeker...." Hal's face looks crestfallen. "Jun got bitten by a snake...swallowed whole to be more exact. We didn't get the chance to retaliate before it managed to slither back up a tree. Vile things. And I left Kel at the camp, to see what more he could find."

"And what did you find, Hal?

"The mountain soars, far above the clouds so that we could not see the peak. But... we found the entrance to a massive cavern. I did not enter it, as it's your right as Seeker to pave the way."

Julius lifts a hand to stay what else Hal has to say.

"Everyone! We leave at once, Hal has found a new question, one with a possible answer! Strike camp we move before night approaches! Hal, take twenty spears and return with all haste. I do not want Kel left alone with all the dangers the jungle provides.

The Tairens scuttle in hurry, quickly striking their small nomad camp. The family of Jun stays still, mourning his wretched death. The brothers of Kel gather their spears, and join Hal's growing party. They strike off soon after, in an attempt to reach the camp at the base of the Heart mountain. The whole camp would be close behind them.

As soon as Julius arrives, he will organize fifty spears. They will gather torches and three days of supplies, and strike into the cavern.

Dwarves of Bizaram Crags

The Dwarfs of the Bizaram Crags have long sat idle in their cities of rock and metals, looking for the riches of the mountains while strengthening and bolstering their army for defense against the for told ruin to come. King Dungrik sits upon his royal throne with battle axe beside him as he listens to the complaints of the citizens of the Grand Capital and gives his answers to them before sending them on their way.

The great dwarven cities made from many years of dedicated carving and detailed designs showing how proud the dwarves take for their grand halls and cities, their cities resting easily inside the protected mountains, each day workers moving down into the mines or moving out of the mountains to the scarce farms around the mountains to provide for the small nation while the young go to the recently created school's, learning of their history and the required things in a normal school of the dwarves. Some scouts are also sent out to search for a much more sustainable food source and possible a animal to tame and ride for easier transportation.

The Holy Empire of Gracemaria

Prince Tythos stands on the outside of town watching as workers and resources pile into Valkarios, he takes a deep breath as he sheathed his sword and turns to Sylvaeri handing her a document "Put these into effect, if I pass our Lord and guide's trials then I shall return to see them through." She nods to him, several others watch as he sets off into the wilderness alone.

Sylvaeri stands in the throne room with several merchants and artisans. "In our Prince's absence I am putting into order his last plans before had set off to his trials. As you all know...massive influxes of stone and lumber have been brought in. We will usher ourselves into a nee age...buildings of stone and wood, walls of thick rock capable of keeping the fiends of this world out of our cities."

As Grus gives the last of his report to the council, and sits down in his seat, the council reflects on his words.

Brak: So, they use this weapon to launch a projectile? With the recent addition of a cavalry, we could certainly use something like that...

Lyra: Not to mention that neither the Orcs, nor the Tiers have anything like that... Something like that in our hands could certainly be a powerful bargaining chip.

Jis: And if our people saw our fighters armed with something like that, they'd probably feel a lot safer.

Arcus: So, should we just attempt to take these weapons from the orcs during the inevitable battle? Or should we try and produce our own now?

Grus: Well, we should try and produce 'em now. If we end up fightin' those orcs 'fore we finish, then we just take 'em. Either way though, we'll need to know how to make 'em, in the long run.

The council puts it to vote, and unanimously decides to begin research into recreating the weapon the orcs were using.

After the council meeting (updates on current projects, and a report on Hyo's experiments, and the Rune-Forge experiments) all council members would head over to Draco Anima, to celebrate the finished establishment of the town.

Dwarves of Bizaram Crags

The dwarves new discovery of what the Runes do has proved quite useful, all the battle axes and weapons including the armies Rune armor has used the rune which makes them wear down less and take more hits while the soldiers are trained better in combat and taking advantage of their surrounding. King Dungrik meanwhile trains himself in combat as well despite his old appearance he is only a little over middle-aged and knows much of the mountains.

Meanwhile, the schools continue to teach young dwarfs the arts and the things they would need to know to live a good life in the dwarven cities which continue to grow and expand under the mountains in grand halls of stone and lights. Scouts continue to search the mountains and surrounding lands for animals to tame and breed for food while also mapping the area's around the cities and a little further.
