The Archaeologists of Aegis has started their first project, looking for the ruins of the first Dark Elf settlement and Moon Grove. I am namely a Dark Elf myself and son to Taurnil Súrion, leader of the first Dark Elves.

I have taken the responsibility to find out, excavate and archive the lore and history of the Dark Elves. But I also want to find out more about Aegis and what happened in history. Me and the Archaeologists of Aegis will be looking for the truth of Aegis history.

Here is the first notes I written down. My father did tell me all of this, even though it was something he did not want to share. He was very shamed...

Dark Elves

History of the Dark Elves

There was a time, not too long after the races where created and Malin was still leader of the Elves, when the councils of Laurelin was going well, and the lands prospered. However, there were one part of the elven community that was of darker skin and had pale hair. They were led by a diciple called Taurnil Súrion.

Even since the time of Malin up until today, the elves has always worshipped the land. The sun, the grass, the trees and even the soil. The elves led by Taurnil Súrion thought that the elves should also worship the moon, together with the sun, as symbols of the cycle of the days.

Malin did not like this. The elves lives today, and not in the future. Despite this, Taurnil had let build a grove, where they worshipped the moon. When Malin learned of this, he became furious and banished them from Laurelin.

From that day, the elves under Taurnil Súrion became known and Dark Elves, due to their dark skin and love for the night. In time, the skin of the Dark Elves became even darker, but the usually blonde hair became even more pale.

The Dark Elves moved to a place they came to call the Forests of Inwe,

How they lived

The Dark Elves moved to live in dark forests, or more uncommonly caves and swamp areas, where the sun didnt reach. Their tree residents where darkwood trees which are unnaturally thick, which seems to point to the fact that they did also weave trees out of the soil, much like how the big trees of Laurelin are made.

They did not favor wooden planks as floor, so they kept the soil and grass between their toes as much as possible. The trees where very thick down by the ground, and topped of going higher up. The Dark Elves made use of small floors in the top of the trees, but also made small underground rooms below the roots.

The Dark Elves did not seem to care much for art or interior design, but they seems to have had a love for words scribbled on walls. Most of the words we find are 'Velulaei' or 'mare', meaning 'moon' and 'dark' respectively. All tree dwellings also seem to have some sort of balcony or window turned towards the middle of the forest.

In the center of Inwe there is a small pond of water. This is now a known part of the holy groves the Dark Elves had their religious ceremonies, including the worship of the moon. An elevated altar or podium is by the pond, which might mean there was some sort of high druid leading those rituals.

There has been signs of cavernous dwellings as well, but this needs more exact proof. We will see if we can pinpoint this fact. Another thing I noted is a small, small field without trees. This small field might have been the place for training. See our journal about Dark Elves and combat for further notes on that.

The forest itself is very dense with the trees very close together. There are slight signs of paths around the small settlement, probably meaning that the Dark Elves did walk around much, possibly socializing with each other. See our journal Dark Elf religion and moon worship for further information on that.

Appearance

Dark Elves have dark skin, especially for elves, usually twilight grey or obsidian, though rarely dark blue, with hair ranging from pale blue to black. Eyes range from dark colors like darker blue, purple and winered, to lighter colors like aqua and pink.

Notes on Dark Elves and the elven language

General notes

Strong and agile, they are fast runners and climbers, which make them good Elven Rangers and Soldiers. They favour blade and shield over the bow buit are most often wielding a dagger or two.

The Dark Elves are light footed, which makes them prime sneakers. If a Dark Elf is evil, he is probably sneaking around, picking a pocket or with dagger high, behind your back.

Dark Elves

Wiki description

You are of the Dark Elves, the dusty skinned brothers of the Elves. Although more cunning and physically stronger than your brothers, you lack their patience and skills in archery.

Some notes

They originated from common elves that moved to caves and swamp areas, living in dark forests where sun didnt reach.

Strong and agile, they are fast runners and climbers, which make them good Elven Rangers and Soldiers. They favour blade and shield over the bow buit are most often wielding a dagger or two.

One of the diciples didn't get exactly what he wanted, being stubborn, and then left the bright forests for darker places.

But if they are found doing things Malin wouldnt prefer then..

they would be looked down upon

If the dark elves choose to make their own camp with their own rules

Dark Elves coexist with the other elves.

Malin is our father, we worship the land. The sun, the grass, the trees, even the soil

((He never called himself the leader. This is only the history, its more thought out in my opinion and much better. That was before subraces were added and it was a suggestion, not official lore. Clearly you never saw anything about his Guild. He build ruins and lore around them, they are well thought out and It seems great.))

I never said I was the leader, but the son of the former late dark elf leader. I do not claim any leadership over anyone, only a responsibility to learn about the past, through my ancestry.

I have a green from High-prince Native to create the Dark Elf lore, and it will be under revision before anything about officiallity will be spoken of.

((I don't really care if you call yourself leader. As long as you don't stray from what a Dark Elf truly is. I just want to see my favorite mythical race live in this world. I will personally help you build these Dark Elf cities. That is once I get accepted..))

And to add on to your notes Dark Elves have star shaped eyes.

Not as I see it in Aegis. Dark Elves in Aegis is not necessarily exactly as other Dark Elves in other fantasy worlds and lores. If anything, Aegis Dark Elves should have eyes that switch to different moon shapes, based on the current moon, but I think that is pretty far fetched.

Dark Elves and combat

maybe this?:

*you pick up a book, dust puffs from between the pages*

due to the elves being able to blend with their surrounding (because of dark skin, and dark home regions) the dark elves tended to value being able to use a blade far more than any of the other elves.it was not uncommon for a dark elf to actually carry a knife at all times, rather than a bow (with the trees normally being far to thick and close together to shoot any effective distance, blades were much more efficient) some elves even going as far as broadwords! most dark elves tended to use a rogue-like fighting style. ie,blending in and sneaking up on and enemy, then stabbing them in the back or slitting there throat.however head on attacks with a blade were not uncommon either.

this is not to say that the dark elves didnt use bows, they did, esspecially for hunting.but the trees prevented arrows from flying very far unless one were to shoot from above the canopy, fire vertically,or fire while in a clearing.many royal guards of dark elves carried both a bow,and a sword.futhermore-

We have crimson eyes as well, you know...

So many have accused me of being evil with my eyes, and they are all right >: p

my dark elf's eyes are a bright green.im pretty sure eyes can be just about any color.maybe theres a bigger reason for that? various bloodlines,and/or traits that go along with it? would be interesting

I agree with you, I have red eyes (as do many other dark elves on the server) and I always get the same reaction (Not that I'm a kind dark elf either lol). Then again, I don't agree with this version of dark elf lore. Dark elves do not live in the forests or swamps...we live underground. I feel the dungeons and dragons 'drow' (dark elf) lore is more accurate to how we are seen on this server.

((this was around before the dark elf lore for the new world was decided on,but if availer says so then i guess this will need to be updated.meh,i kinda liked this version a little better.now i feel like im the elf equivalent to a foresst dwarf.elves that live in caves, dwarrves that live in trees

madness i say madness))

((DISCLAIMER:this is not to say that i dont like the new lore or forest dwarves))
