Powergaming, Metagaming and Roleplaying Definitions

Found the server, Lord of the Craft on the internet and you want so much to play it. It is a good server, as we also have a restart around this 6th August of 2016

It is a great time to apply, we have good plugins, and also, a team called Application Team, which is in charge of reviewing, rejecting and accepting your application.

 

You're about to apply to the game, but you don't absolutely know what is powergaming, metagaming and roleplaying. Worry not! This guide will help you. It is a pleasure of the application team to deny applications for plagiarism of any aspect, and I tell you, do not plagiarise. There are fierce punishments for those whom plagiarise.

 

What is plagiarising?

In other words, to plagiarise is to copy, to steal from somewhere else. Regardless of placing the credits to the writer of the application, it isn't yours. Regardless of how long an application was posted, want it or not, the application team will know it. I repeat: DO NOT PLAGIARISE.

 

Plagiarising also resumes itself to copy-pasting entire sects or phrases of the wiki. You're meant to write a text of two paragraphs by yourself, so do it! Just like school, you have to read and make an essay. It isn't hard, is it?

 

Plagiarisation is the first topic that is covered because it will be important for the next ones.

I will set a few examples of powergaming, metagaming and roleplaying definitions straight out of the bat from LotC. You may also use google, but these are some examples.

 

Formulate a conclusion and use that conclusion on your metagaming your definition.

Metagaming

Metagaming has a different meaning on roleplay, it isn't a strategy. As I said, do not plagiarise.

"False Knowledge"

-The use of knowledge in character that you're not meant to know of.

    -You're someone that is not your roleplay character. He knows of some things, and you know of other things.

-Being an all-knowing wise sage that knows of everything because "Saw it on the wiki" or "Ron told me on a skype chat"

-Knowing of someone's places.

    -Bob is on a campaign to the north for example, but you don't know this.

    -John is trapped on a cell on the city of the high elves, but you don't know it aswell.

         -Forcing yourself or somewhat pushing yourself to acquire knowledge of these is also metagaming, asking for someone to tell it to you in roleplay is also weird. It happens often, believe me, but you're not meant to do it.

-Going to help your friend on X place because he is on trouble and you saw it on a skype chat or he messaged you.

    -There is a stupid option for this, but you can use a metabird, something that a large shred of the playerbase wants to be gone.

 

Powergaming

"Powerplaying"

-Superb, unnatural and impossible strenght, agility or prowess that you don't even have.

    -Lifting a rock of a ton.

    -Doing multiple backflips to dodge an attack.

-Overpowering someone or an equal

-Forcing an action upon someone with no chance of reaction and compressing all actions into one.

    -This is the most important one. You may not force an action upon someone and give him no chance of reaction. An example?

BAD

John runs up to Ron, unsheates a knife and stabs him on the head, killing him instantly

Ron complains on OOC.

 

GOOD

John takes out his knife as he stares at Ron.

Ron begins to shake in fear as he sees the knife, stepping back.

John goes to sprint forth, bringing his knife by his side as it is set on a stab position.

Ron attempts to also run away from John

John keeps chasing Ron.

Ron slowly gets exhausted faster than John

John quickly approaches Ron amidst the chase and goes to attempt to stab him.

The stab hits Ron's back, decapacitating him.

John goes to attempt to finish Ron with a stab on the head.

Ron rolls around on the ground, trying to dodge, but for his unfortunate end, he's stabbed in the head and suffers a quick death.

 

Notice the attempts and tries. In other words, give people a chance and good roleplay, they'll enjoy it, you will enjoy it and no one will go back home complaining in OOC to others.

 

-Doing things that you realistically can't, a few examples. Should it be pointed out that these are very few and never the only applications of powergaming:

    -Create an earthquake with a stomp

    -Punching stronger than an orc as a halfling

    -Beat three orcs that are armored to the teeth alone by yourself

-Chosen one stuff. No one is the chosen one.

-Dodging every attack or getting to land every hit.

 

  Roleplaying

Roleplaying is the core of the server, the most important part, which is where the metagaming and powergaming definitions apply for good. Many may know, many may also not know, but roleplaying is a style of gaming anew. For example, there is PvP and PvE, but also, RP, which is a way of playing via writing rather than instant actions. It is slow, but it is also fun. You talk like you're talking with /that/ one person, you get into someone's life and play it as you're him.

 

It's the gear that keeps the server running, unique and different from others, it is what gathers players across the globe to enjoy it rather than PvP or PvE, having a set, specific server. It isn't a faction server.

Make sure to use the wiki to apply to the server so you may get to know of lore and etcetera!

 

A few definitions of roleplaying as it follows:

 

-Have a history and have players acting accordingly

-To act

-Play a role

-Interpretate a character

-Know to win and to lose

-Developing a character based off a set realm (History, lifestyle, likes, dislikes...)

-Being apart of a community.

-Have emotions on your character

-Living on a different place

 

[EXTRA] Edgy?

An edgy is someone whom does "anime actions", uses a hood or wants to be badass by being /dark/ or even, a professional assassin (Or normal assassin). Backflipping, red shining eyes, different colour eyes and katanas are a few examples of the definition "edgy", play something normal, be normal, just like everyone normal is. In this way, you're guaranteed to not be killed for no reason
