Druidic Migration-- The Grand Harvest

Recommended Posts

It is not our place to observe the seed as it blows in the wind, it is our place to sow it.

It is not our place to ignore the sprout, but rather, our place to nurture it.

And when the full grain sways upon its stalk, it is not ours to allow it to wither, an opportunity wasted..

We must reap it.

The Grand Harvest

In the beginning, the path of the Druidic Order was straight and true, deviating neither to the right nor left. Ours is a simple one, to protect Nature and the Balance-- but the Druids have lost their way. As time has changed, the Druids have not. In these, the days of Axios, the shortcomings of our Order have never been more poignant, nor more dire. Ours now is the way of the sloth. When once the Grove was a place of passing through, most Druids now spend their days and nights locked securely in a small clump of trees thousands of footsteps from the nearest settlement, which is thousands of footsteps from the next, and an ocean away from the rest of the Races. Ours has never been a lesser presence in the whole of recorded Druidic history. Given the nature of our service, to protect the world from those that would imbalance it, we have clearly come to a difficult strait.

The time has come for the winds of change to be heeded, that we might serve the Aspects to our fullest capacity. No longer may we shelter in the safety of seclusion, or in numbers. A new age of Druidism must dawn, fueled by the needs of this great, expansive land the Descendents now inhabit. Ours is to serve first, and the Mother Circle is a place of half-service, in which comfort, camaraderie, and friendship overrule the sense of duty instilled in us by the Aspects. While the circumstances of our decay are understandable, they must not be allowed to continue.

In the spirit of serving to our fullest capacity, it is my strong and wholehearted belief that the best course of action for the whole of the Order is as follows.

The seed, spread.

  • The Mother Circle as it is now must disband, and the Grove be abandoned by all its residents, save those who would stay to service the Savannah. No more will there be a ‘great circle’ which presides over all others, and no more may we hide away in the shadow of the world, prioritizing safety over service. Ours is a beautiful home, but beauty is not all there is to being a Druid. Furthermore, congregating in one place draws our attention disproportionately to certain parts of the realm, leaving others exposed to the horrors that the Races brew up. Look no further than Vailor. If we had been more widespread, could disaster have been averted?

A bountiful harvest.

  • In the stead of the Mother Circle, new, smaller circles will be created throughout the land. Groves will be created by petitioning settlements for land, and will consist of small spaces full of books regarding Druidic rites, rituals, and culture, as well as room to teach and train. No rooms or lodging permitted in any grove or grotto except for a guest room (when enough space is provided around or in the settlement). This will facilitate movement, and discourage sloth in Druids, who will have to settle in their own lodgings within and around their settlement. Circle numbers will dwindle from dozens, to groups of around three to five. When a circle grows too large, it will be with the expectation that some will break away to form a new unit, perhaps as a family or clan.

Three to many.

  • Each proposed Circle will be headed by an Arch Druid, and the connotation of “Arch Druid” will change slightly. Now numerous Arch Druids will exist across the land, with greater autonomy than what is currently the case today. Arch Druids will be responsible for maintaining the character, intention, and direction of each Circle, and keep it in line with what the Aspects and the rest of the Order desire. On top of supervising the circle they are assigned, Arch Druids will call Moot and Shun as they have in the past. In order for an Arch Druid to take his place at the head of his Circle, that Circle must present him at Moot as their choice, be evaluated by his peers, and found worthy.

Holy ground.

  • A central location in the realm will be established for Moots. A circle of stones, an inn, a stable, anywhere where the whole of the Order can gather peacefully to exchange news, ideas, and rally in the event that such an action is called for. The Mootplace will be set on neutral ground to avoid travel disruption due to war. Moots will now be a grand affair of convergence, rather than a dull yearly meeting, in which we might celebrate our unity and strength as an Order, attune new Druids, and feast to the new year.

    • Should an Arch Druid not be present to vote at Moot, a chosen representative of his Circle may take his place.

The saplings.

  • Each Circle may train Dedicants. Dedicants slotted for attunement presented to the rest of the Order during moots or by sending them to another Circle to be evaluated by their Arch Druid. The process by which Dedicants are trained will remain the same.

Most trusted among us.

  • A Grand Druid will be selected in vote of all the Arch Druids once their circles are established, two elven weeks past the implementation of the Grand Harvest. The Grand Druid’s duty will be to resolve conflicts between circles, and keep watch for any Circle that might lose its way, that he might alert other Circles to impending peril. Each Grove will service a simple room for the Grand Druid’s visit. Any Arch Druid unsatisfied with the Grand Druid may nominate another choice, and a vote be held at any moot at any time.

While the sacrifices the Order would have to make to see these changes through are immense, the benefits reaped by the Aspects are far greater. I encourage each and every Druid to set aside their comfort, doubts, fears, and attachment to what is, that they might see what could be.

Guidlines for Circles: Rough Draft

-No official alliances with unholy magics such as necromancy or arcane. Druids may continue to cooperate with such beings on case-by-case basis ONLY.

-No armed conflict between Circles. In the event that two locations both harboring Druids war with each other, all Druids are expected to exclude themselves from the conflict. In the event that one side does not shelter Druids, participation is allowed. Armed conflict between individuals remains acceptable.

-In the event that two Circles find that they cannot cooperate with each other, and the Grand Druid's intervention is fruitless, the topic should be brought to moot, for the other Circles to sit in and judge the conflict and resolve it.

-Circles may not appoint their Arch Druid or attune their dedicants without prior approval of moot, or in extraordinary circumstances, another Circle.

Artimec emerged from the grove of prayers in Linandria as a little bird brought him news of these events. "Perhaps we should hold a ritual of offering this fortnight." He said to Valor, before slipping back into the grove displaying his typical reclusive nature.
