A Resignation, An Ascension

6th of Snow's Maiden, 1580

Kelthran stood before the crowd, clearing his throat. His features were weary, but his robes kempt and his posture straight as ever. With a faint and melancholy smile, he began.

"It is with further adieu that I announce..."

He paused, his smile fading as he sucked the crisp mountainous air deeply into his lungs.

"A Resignation. A Sohaer's duty rests foremost to his people, and not to himself. A leader must do so by example, and I have not been present to perform in this capacity to an acceptable level. It is thusly that I concede my office of twenty five years to the more capable citizenry of Haelun'or. Let it be known that I do not forsake you, fair Elves, simply that my mind grows weary from the services rendered - and that it is for the betterment of all that a more fresh individual undertake the rigors of office. Among the choices for this office that have been discussed are Parion Tahn'thill and Lanavia Iyathir - should any other Mali'aheral seek out this office; or should the aforementioned Mali'aheral seek to submit speeches as per the custom of our fair city, let it be known that this forum is here to let voices be heard; and that the voting under Sohaer shall continue under my watch - bringing me to my second announcement."

Reinvigorated, he continued.

"An Ascension:. Lelien Synalli and I have spoken at length about what is to be done with my person once I am removed, or as the case may be resign from office. After many moons of rumination and polite conversation, it has been decided that in light of my recent accomplishments: the removal of our people from under the heel of the Ame Tristin Tresery, the pacification of the Celein and Alahrys schisms, the shrewd negotiation of the exit of a war that would've seen our fate the same as the fallen Dreadlands, overseeing the construction of the shimmering jewel of the West that we now call home, and of course the vassalization of the Warhawkian people - I shall take her place as Maheral of Haelun'or to lead in a different capacity than before and to continue to serve in any way that I can. In the days to come, I do not doubt our city shall stand strong under the watchful eye of my replacement."

His smile now resting once more upon his visage, he uttered the final words of his speech; gazing out over the crowd.

"May the debates begin... and may the odds be ever in your favor. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve, and to continue to do so in my new capacity. iewyn'Larihei eltaeleh walehe ohn vallein eltaliyna walehe. maehr'sae hiylun'ehya."

Finished, the Maheral saw his place from the podium, taking a seat beside his wife as he watched the stage - awaiting the flood of brave Mali'aheral to sully forth with their claims.
