Breeding Guide!

Ok, so everyone asks how to be a breeder, how to get started, what to do.

So to those of you new with this profession I will give you a step by step guide to how to get started, and be a successful breeder.  I won’t be going over horses, but you can follow the basic guidelines.

What we will cover:

1:  Pens

2:  Grids

3: Amount of animals

4: How to get started

5: Animal prices

6:  Loot system

7:  What gives what

LET'S GET STARTED!

1 Pens

So everyone wants to know what to do for pens, you can do about anything, but DO NOT stick 100 animals in a tiny pen!  If it's in a small protected plot instead of using gates, use carpet on the fences so you can get in and out without any animals escaping.  If you don’t want people getting in do /cprivate.  Make sure to use fences, or at least 2 wall high if using normal blocks to avoid animals getting out.  Doors also work too, for cows a single door would stop them from getting out, whereas sheep can go through these.  For rabbits make sure you have a roofed area, as they can jump out of pens!

2 Grids

Now you all know that animals per chunk give different xp!  Do F3 G to see the grid system, avoid putting too many animals in a chunk to avoid lag.  This also lets you tell how  to space, I usually keep pens about 1 chunk apart from other pens.

3 Amount of Animals

Animals give a certain amount of xp!  HOWEVER the more animals you have the less xp you’re given.  This means if you have 100 animals in a chunk, you’re getting nearly no xp for breeding.  Sure its great for farming leather, or meat, or even wool, but it's HORRIBLE for leveling.  Pens with low amount of animals, spaced a few chunks apart give much more xp then small pens of many animals.

4 How to get Started!

Go to a GM and buy animal eggs!  Prices will be listed below.  Animals currently do not naturally spawn, so you will need to buy from other players or GM’s but Gm’s give eggs, allowing easier transport!  Usually you just need 2-4 eggs.  Put these in your already made pens, and to breed you will need carrots for pigs and rabbits, wheat for cows and sheep, golden carrots for horses, bones for dogs, and fish for cats.  POLAR BEARS DO NOT BREED, however you can tame them with fish, and use a saddle to ride them.  Once you have your animals, remember to only keep small amounts in the pen.  To many and a GM will kill them, and not refund you for the rest.  There's a small chance they will kill them all, or maybe half, it depends, but to many animals also cause dreaded lag.  I would know as a huge horse breeder I have lagged out the server once or twice, so avoid doing this.  When breeding, KILL the baby, not the adults, this means that you have less of a wait time, and babies give the same drops as adults.  Now people can share xp and breeding timers stack, so two masterful breeders will have a lower cool down than a single breeding working alone.

5 Animal Prices

Prices are as follows.

Cows/Pigs/Sheep - 1,000 Minas for 4

Chickens/Rabbits - 500 Minas for 4

Horses - 1,500 Minas for 1

Polar Bears - 3,000 Minas for 1

GMS DO NOT SELL CATS OR WOLVES

So to get your animal, do /modreq I would like to buy (Amount) of (Animal name), then pay the GM who answers the amount of Mina required.

6 Loot System

The higher breeder you are the better the loot you get.  Clearing animals myself I can get an inventory full very easily, compared to a clumsy breeder who will struggle to get many drops.  This encourages you to become a higher breeder for more.  Also breeding time lowers the higher breeder you are.

7 What Gives What

Horses:  Leather

Cows:  Meat and Leather

Sheep:  Mutton and Wool

Chicken:  Chicken and Feathers

Bears:  Sometimes fish?

Cats:  Nothing

Wolves:  Nothing

Bunnies:  Hide, Rabbits Foot, Rabbit meat

Pigs:  Meat, twice as much as other animals as its all they give.

Welcome to LOTC everyone!  And I hope this guide helps you whether you’re new to the system, or an old player!

Sincerely your friend Rella101

how do i get caskets

Breeding doesn't give caskets.  You can only get it from mining, lumberjacking, farming, or fishing.

I saw the title and got excited it was another how to elf interbreed and was dissapointed.

You could add that pigs give double the amount of meat that other animals do. Since pigs don't give other drops, their meat outcome is doubled.

Finally someone that gives constructive criticism, I'll add that right now.  I really appreciate it!
