Well all you really want is just the general shape I assume? I'm sure it'll be fine as such but if you really need it it might cause lag to the server.

I'm not asking to render an entire new map, I figured you'd already have one, or at least another Isometric map which doesn't have the brown overlay on it. It is because it is pretty hard to see where water starts and forests end!

It will do but it'll be harder xD

Nope.

I don't think I can do it with the current map. It tells me to little and will take to long.

I will make an Isometricly painted one and keep it monotone brown rather than a fully colored top-view one.

Would you hand draw it or use various layer edits via photoshop?

I like the map, but it's a little bit awkward to actually use to start off with... I eventually figured out my way around after a long time of realising it's easier just to ask people directions and randomly wandering around until I find a human city, XD, but I'm thinking maybe we need a less detailed map?

What I'm thinking of is basically, on graph paper (or, last miniute change before I post this as I just realised, I could do it in MSPaint in theory...), we draw the shape of each border of each city/region, and then loosely draw the main roads and paths between each region... It would be more useful as a map... Perhaps a type of line should be drawn showing the edge of land too...

Hmm... It just occured to me that this would take quite a while to do, although once done it would be rather useful as a player's ooc map of where things are...

Minor villages and whatnot don't need to be included, perhaps, except as dots and a name, like real maps... Perhaps regions of the wild will just have squiggles and 'Here Be Draconians' or something to show it's unchartednessness...

I'd do this right away, but honestly, I really feel it'd take a while and I'm too laaaaazzy. ... Huh. So I guess this post is pointless then. ... Pointlessman, awayyyy!

I find the live map to be quite helpful: http://www.lordofthecraft.net:8008/#

I've also been taking renders and applying an ink outline in paint.net to make it look more map-like. For example, here's the Aegis/Laurelin region:

scaled.php?server=641&filename=mapnq.png&res=medium

or with less colors:

scaled.php?server=198&filename=map2kn.png&res=medium

I then just overlay another layer with notes, routes, etc. It would be nice though to have a map that has everything in it, so one could get a general idea of where things are.

[EDIT]

I think this one is more reasonable if you are going to be adding comments to your map because of the contrast.

scaled.php?server=34&filename=map3jl.png&res=medium

Ah, you use Paint.NET too?

Anyway, nice job on the maps. I was trying to do this, but I didn't want to take the time. Thanks for this.

It's quite simple, anyone could do it. Hmm, I shall write a little tutorial in a bit for this as I think it will be quite helpful for others. =]

[EDIT] I have completed the tutorial, you can find it here!

Epic cartography here

I think... I think I love you and want to have your babies.

... Actually, no that would be silly and a bit over the top.

But good work anyway.

*manly handshake*

Nice map. An arrow showing the direction of north would help tremendously for those of us that are new or just horrible map readers. I've gotten lost several times trying to navigate off of the land and map together. I assume north is the upper right? But then there's a region in the lower left called The North? Sun sets in the west, clouds drift northward, either way it's confusing for someone new to the land.

Then again, I'm an orc. Me not know what my been doin'.

Thanks.
