To The End

In the waning days of the Empire it seemed as if everyone had given up on Philip, and abandoned him to his fate. Lords renounced their loyalty and Imperial knights who gave the most sacred of vows to the Empire broke them. It was not a question of If the Empire was to fall but when. The wolf, which Oren had been for many decades. Now clawed at its door. The time had come, The Emperor called his last loyal men to the palace and gave them his parting words. Explaining that to remain would be suicide and that they should all go. Philip stressed to them all, this was his end but it didn't have to be theirs. Many men left, giving their last words as they made their way to collect their things and live to fight another day, but to a loyal few, they would die alongside the Emperor.

Ser Maric knighted the loyal men in quick fashion upon the Emperor's command, and many gave their last words. Ser Walter who had fought for the Empire since fourteen made his way up the dais alongside the Emperor, now 45 he has given all he could to the war. He would not break his oath to the dragon, he would die in the palace he worked so hard to protect. As the Emperor readied to ignite the thanium bomb, Walter uttered his last. “Ave Horen! Ave Imperium! Ave Orenia! Loyal men of Oren! To The End!” With that Philip Fredrick dropped the alchemists fire into the thanium pit, there was nothing for a few seconds. Then a bright flash and searing pain accompanied by an overwhelming sense of cold for a milliseconds then an intense warmth surrounded him, he thought back on his life. The battles he fought with his brothers in the gold corps, battles that raged in Vailor, the exodus, the Felsen rebellion. His short time in the Golden Crow, his time as a Nauzican. The conquering of far off lands, Elevation to Knighthood, birth of his firstborn and his time as Knight Commander. All this in a few seconds as his vision turned black. As he opened his eyes he found himself somewhere…..else and around him were his friends…

So ended the life of Ser Walter of the House Marshall, loyal to the end. A man of the Empire.

A single letter would have been sent, It is unknown if it ever reached its target

Elrach stood on a wall in Death's end. As he looked out to Johannesburg, the many faces of the men he'd served with in the capital passed through his mind. He let out a forced, frosted breath. They were gone now, some of the finest and bravest men he'd ever met.

But life rolls on.

Somewhere else in the south, a lone figure would say a prayer in a little chapel. His fingers rubbed the Lorraine cross in reverence, and his words echoed through the hall.

" You're forgiven for the enchanting table"

Jacque de Felsen would wake up from the deafening blast, the mere shockwave from such an explosion knocking tents and men alike helplessly to the floor. After regaining himself and squinting off into the distance, he'd frown shaking his head at the mass loss of life. In the end though, he couldn't help but prove a weak smile.

"Those damn Imperials. . . Stupid, but loyal. . ." And though alone with no one to bare witness, he'd bring a closed fist over his heart giving a deep bow in respect. "Your fight is over now, may you all find peace."

Soon after, the Marshal received word. The war was over.

We all might've had our differences, but y'all were a loyal bunch who in certain defeat's face didn't give up. I respect that. Taketheshot has all the traits minus the combat prowess of a good soldier, respect.

Aislin Maar received word of the knights death, thinking back on her memories of the man. She had not known him well, but from what she did know, he was a brave man, a strong fighter to the bitter end, and deserved many more years. He died honorably while fighting for his Emperor, she decided, and that was better than being taken out by some filthy cave leeches.

Once Nemir heard of the knight's honorable death,a sense of respect came to her.  Her mind revisited her memories of serving House Kovachev when she had lived in that narrow tower just outside of Kovagrad in the old lands of Vailor.  She recalled the crisp mornings of the north where everything seemed enchanted in the village.  Every blade of grass which wasn't covered in snow looked to be thin carvings of emerald.  Every flower and mushroom found in the north were rubies, sapphires, garnets, and diamonds...  The keep's stone walls were a cold gray, hinting to a purple as the sun slowly rose in the west, its orange rays of light creeping past the distant peaks and bringing color to the slithering, gray fingers of the morning's mist.

The elf recalled seeing Walter often in Kovagrad whenever she ventured out from her home in search of herbs.  He was either there or in Felsen, smiling and laughing with his companions.  He was so young then, she had thought.  When everyone fled to Axios and the dark times of war came again, she recalled seeing Walter more in Johannesburg.  His loyalty for the Empire had never faded, neither did his love for it and its people.

Nemir felt sorry for Walter, then.  How it must've pained him to see the people he tried so hard to protect flee the Empire and take up arms against him and those who remained.

He deserved better, she thought to herself.  I wish I had gotten to know the man more...
