I guess it'd have to be the general rule of no toxic, hostile, bullying behaviour etc... What's roleplay if it can't be a means to collaborate and have fun? It'd be rather awful if we were all complete horrors to one another.

How did you find out about Lord of the Craft?

I used to play! I had a different account, benny508. Unfortunately I lost access to that account by deleting the associated email and forgetting a bunch of the security questions for the Mojang/Minecraft account, whichever one it is. So I've repurchased the game and am reapplying with inspiration from the last characters I began to develop on LOTC... (I played a member of House Sheffield living in obscurity after discussing the idea with Shiftnative at the time, though I did little with it before leaving the server for a while) although that was more than a few years ago now! I don't really have any major way to prove it's actually me except any trivia that might be asked of me, but I doubt I'm that important to warrant that, hah! I'd log in to the forum account of Beneh if I could, but goodness knows what email is associated with that.

What is roleplaying?

I expect every definition will vary from person to person, but to me it's a means of escapism. Roleplay is a way to forget about the happenings and goings-on around you and immerse yourself in another world, and another life. Taking on the role of another character, you do as they would, say as they would and act as they would. It allows you to forge your own stories and experiences all through a screen, something which is rather amazing! To give the most general definition I've come across, it's essentially acting, with the created fantasy world as your stage.

 

What is metagaming?

Metagaming is using knowledge that your character has not gained in-character, but that you know on an out-of-character level. So, for example, you know so-and-so is a villain OOC. If you went and began announcing this IC, you would be metagaming, and ruining the fun for everybody! Boo!

 

 

What is power-emoting (powergaming)?

Power-emoting is really going against what roleplaying actually is. Instead of creating a collaborative story, through power-emotes you take charge without giving the others involved a chance to react as their characters would, and basically commandeer the scene. It's unfun, and uncool. A basic example would be, 'Character 1 stabs Character 2'. Instead, it should be something along the lines of 'Character 1 jabs their blade toward Character 2 in an attempt to stab them'. It's not especially detailed, and a real situation would have far more roleplay, but I hope you get what I mean! Alternatively, it can also account for your character performing simply impossible feats. Say, for example, Character 1 has never touched magic before, but claims they have summoned an almighty storm, or raised the dead. This, too, would class as powergaming/power-emoting.

Now you actually make your character - be creative but stay reasonable! Make sure they make sense and that they follow lore. Try to come up with a character that you actually want to play.

Biography  (Please make it a decent two paragraphs long. Remember to add three references to the server lore): (where does your character come from?; where have they traveled to?; what year were they born in? et cetera.)

Born in the year of 1572, Eoin has had a life far from the luxury and wealth of his ancestors. Two-hundred years ago, the Sheffield family stood as one of the major households across the human society. From the kings of Old Oren to the new lands of  Salvus, House Sheffield sat at the center of politics and intrigue across the realms. In our current year, however, the name Sheffield rarely crosses the lips of any, bar historians recounting historical texts and tales of old, of how King Edmund Sheffield devoured his wife Ivrae, or of how King Enor was abducted by the ancient foe, the Undead. Yet the story of Eoin has no heroics, no grand tales and seemingly no predestined fate awaiting him. 

          A direct descendant of the son of the infamous King Edmund, Enor Sheffield, Eoin can trace his bloodline back to the ancient household, though any looking at him would pass him by without so much as a second thought. The days of the Sheffield bloodline as a noble family of importance are gone, their fame only in their histories. Enor, the ancestor of Eoin, was for a time a King himself, the King of Salvus. The kingdom was doomed to collapse, however, and with it Enor Sheffield vanished. As most thought, the Sheffield bloodline with it. Yet Enor did not meet his death in the fall of Salvus, and instead took to exile some time before the kingdom fell under the rule of Enor's uncle, King Edwin. Enor retreated from public eye, his experiences with the Undead, civil strife and more taking a toll on his ability to remain a King, and more importantly on his desire to be apart of the society he once ruled. Fleeing to far-flung villages and campsites, Enor is said to have lived the rest of his days in obscurity. One thing is certain, however, despite how little else is known of his last days, and that is that he sired a son. Indeed, the Sheffield family has continued to live in exile and obscurity ever since, seeking no place among the succeeding Empires and Kingdoms of men.

 

As for Eoin, the son of the late Edmure Sheffield before him, he stands as the sole member of his bloodline as many of his family have before him in the years since the fall of Oren. Remaining in obscurity, he travels as a wanderer, with no home to call his own. He has never had one, nor does he desire one, for his is a life on the move. The once rooted and royal family has now turned to vagabonds and vagrants. With the death of his father only several years ago now, and the biting loneliness started to take its toll on Eoin, he has decided to pursue a different life from that of his ancestors until this point. He searches for a place to call home. No - he has no grand desires or ambitions. Instead, he looks for somewhere to humbly call his home. A farm, a small village abode, somewhere out of sight. But a home, nontheless. Currently, he wanders the various settlements taking what temporary jobs and contracts he can for payment, continuously working until he can find a small piece of the world to call his own.

Personality Traits: (what are your character's quirks?; habits?; likes and dislikes?)

Eoin, despite venturing from one populated area to another, has had relatively limited interaction with others. He is withdrawn, rare to trust, and almost never to mention his family history. More than anything else, he wishes to avoid trouble and attention, and so will keep to himself whenever possible. Throughout his voluntary solitude, however, he has found a deep fascination and interest in the natural world. He seeks to understand the unity between the life of nature, and has a deep appreciation for the fauna and wildlife he so often spends his time among. That is not to say he is a pacifist towards animals, however, for certainly people must eat, and hunting is one of the main ways in which he spends his time. He has gotten quite good at it, he would say.

To the majority of folk he encounters, however, he will be short-tempered, cold, stony and altogether unwelcoming. He has no desire to become a member of the society he has been apart from for all of these years.

 

Ambitions: (what does your character aspire to be?)

Eoin has no great ambition, in the grand scheme of things. To him, owning a farmstead or village house is all he seeks to achieve. That said, this is no small thing to Eoin, for his family has been homeless for over one hundred years. He seeks to change that, and settle.

Strengths/Talents: (what is your character really, really good at?)

Hunting, tracking and surveying the land around him have become particular skills of Eoin's. His life has, almost literally, been dedicated only to perfecting the aforementioned arts, for he depends on his skill in these areas to survive, and to make something of a living. He has undeniable skill with a bow, as a result.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: (what is a skill that your character needs to work on?)

Eoin, however, is not so good with people. A life with limited social interaction has led him to be a man seeking the company of none, and his own solitude. This is something he will have to overcome if he is ever to achieve his ambition of finding a home, a community, to settle in. More than this, whilst he has great skill with a bow, a sword is less useful when hunting animals, and so he has achieved far less practice and skill with a blade. This has led him to be an amateur swordsman at best, and he would do well to avoid a swordfight with any skilled fighter.

Appearance: (what does your character look like?; how tall are they?; hair color?; scars?)

With dark unkempt hair, and somewhat dirtied clothes, Eoin's rugged look is the first thing onlookers takeaway. Taking longer to study him, however, he seems to be roughly of average height, perhaps slightly taller than most. He has a lean, well-toned build. Never having worn heavy armour or gone through training to develop his muscles, he instead has what has come naturally through his time hunting and travelling, giving him his current figure. His eyes are a dark blue, though other than that there cannot be much of note said about him. His face carries stubble that appears to be occasionally trimmed back, though it only adds to his rather rogue-ish appearance.
