Gror Ireheart's Electoral Speech

The Great Wolf Howls

Gror Ireheart stands before everyone present within Tal’Azmar, hauling himself up onto the side of the central fountain and speaking in a loud voice.

“Sons and daughters of Urguan, allies, friends and passerby. I come before you all today, humble in my approach, to implore you to lend me your ear for a short moment while I recount my part in this election, my policies, my ideals, and my outlook on recent events. It is in revealing this information that I hope to win you to my banner in my campaign to become the next Grand King of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan.”

The dwed coughs once to clear his throat, letting his one good eye drift over the crowd assembled in the square. A few whoops and cheers from his Ireheart kin are quickly silenced with an absent wave of his hand, and he continues in a loud, noble tone.

“Our society has crumbled. All that we have now is a withered husk of what once was. I will not stand idly by and watch as the proud children of Urguan suffer and toil under the yoke of foreign oppression and poverty. It has been far too long since our streets were filled with the sweet song of bards and birds alike, our taverns full of drunken revelry, our proud Legion patrolling with incredible discipline. I ask you here today; what has become of us? Are we so lethargic that we would allow this societal sickness to latch onto us like a foul parasite?”

Gror allows the gravity of his words to set in, and just as the worried crowd begins to exchange nervous glances and the low buzz of frightened conversation, he begins to speak again.

“Here is what we need: reconstruction. I label it simply, but this will be no simple task. All aspects of our great society require our careful attention, attention which I am more than qualified to provide, owing to my successful tenure as Yemekar’s Pick. The presence of Clan Holds and the position of Kal’Omith have long been topics of debate for our various councils. I wish to see a swift end to this dilemma, and under my guidance, a suitable compromise for all dwedmar will be achieved. It is only through the reconstruction of our living arrangements, at this most-basic level, that we can begin the process of summoning our citizens home, to thrive in the Grand Kingdom once more. Until that time, our people will continue to flee outwards, refusing to settle at home where the cities are filled with ghosts alone.”

When the crowd’s excited muttering dies down, the Ireheart Clan Lord’s face grows grim, straining to appear composed, though his voice does little to mask a deep, seething rage within him.

“But there are those who would challenge our safety and our comfort. Those who would return to see their forebears avenged; the people of the new Orenian Empire. I served as a Commander in our wonderful Legion when we so brilliantly crushed those umri swine, but their oppressive regime has risen from the grave for a sixth time, and now the people of Horen march towards global domination with sickly determination in a vile parade that they believe will be fuelled by the ranks of all Axios. I will not allow them to gather ground nor traction, and will strike where it counts to bring about the destruction of their imperialistic warmongering long before it has the opportunity to secure them any real power.”

Gror points to a group of young Legionnaires in the crowd, their expressions haggard and weather-beaten.

“You, proud soldiers of Urguan, will make these ambitions come true! For you are the backbone of our race and our Kingdom, and without the great work of our Legion, nothing could ever be achieved! I have a vast wealth of military experience, and using it, I will restore our troops to the utmost standard which we maintained for so very long. Do not doubt yourselves, for any single one of you standing here today has in you the ability to join and serve the Legion with the same ferocity and dedication as any seasoned veteran. I ask that you forsake not your duties, even in these troubled times, for it is now that our kinsdwed need you more than ever before. Vote for me, and secure a brighter future for the armed forces of Urguan!”

The animated eye of the dwed on the fountain swivels to inspect a small unit of clergy members closeby.

“Enough is enough, glorious Kirkja Dverga! I served long as a Prophet in your ranks, and I know that you can rise again to your former heights! With me as your King, I will usher in a new age of religious devotion and observance, marked with frequent pilgrimages, ceremonies and festivals. I will encourage a great movement of young dwedmar to fill the positions that have remained vacant in recent years within our church, and under my watchful eye,” Gror says, with a single wink and a wry grin which earns some chuckles from the crowd, “The Brathmordakin will come to be respected and adored again, as they so rightfully should be.”

The hopeful candidate raises a gauntleted fist in the air in the ancient Urguani salute, raising his voice to a awe-inspiring bellow of sheer pride.

“NARVAK OZ URGUAN!”
