The Holy Orenian Empire 280 Share Posted July 1, 2017 THE IMPERIAL LEGION His Imperial Majesty’s Armed Forces of the Realm of Oren, The Lions of Man “Even if I die, if the enemy has fallen I’ve completed my task today; but if I still breathe, who am I to strike down tomorrow?” Archduke Augustus d’Amaury, in public address to His Imperial Majesty John I regarding their prospective conquest of the Horde of Dunamis and his philosophy of war, dated 1547. By the decree of His Imperial Majesty, John V Frederick, 1st of Malin’s Welcome, 1618. For the betterment of Humanity’s military might, all noble levies are hereby absolved and consolidated under the Imperial Legion - formed now into designated regiments. Emperor Peter lectures his men before sallying to the gates of the Princedom of Fenn, date unknown. I. INTRODUCTION TO THE IMPERIAL LEGION “Bear the sword of your countrymen and serve the land of your fathers. Partake in a brotherhood of iron and steel. Perfect yourself physically, mentally and psychologically through vigilant combat, and live with the glory and riches of your service for the rest of your life... and perhaps even obtain immortality.” - Vibius de Sola. With the alleviation of tensions amongst Horen’s sons and their subsequent reunification under the banner of the dragon, once more does the call of duty ring out to all men near and far. Tempered by the flame of war and arduous strife, once more does Man mobilize, carrying on the hundreds of years of tradition and culture that their forefathers fought to ensure. With plate and sword do the men of this great Legion both protect the past and ensure the future; their pulse that of the Nation’s. The Imperial Legion is premier amongst the defenders of humanity, and the greatest of the Empire’s warriors, making up the lion’s share of the Empire’s military assets. Those selected are considered elite men of the Empire, and serve as the foremost martial force - enacting the Emperor’s will with precision and diligence the likes of which is unparalleled. Join with the Legion. The time of one Oren, one Man, one Empire, is now - long may it live. The staggering Imperial victory at White Mountain, dated 1536. II. THE RANK AND FILE OF THE LEGION All members of the Legion are beholden to the Officer Corps and are expected to obey the authority of the chain of command or face the according repercussions. Members of the Senior Command serve as the foremost organizational body and lead the Legion in times of both war and peace, serving to organize logistics and command the entirety of the Empire’s forces in the field of battle. Much of the pragmatic, on the ground work is carried out and executed by the Legates and their High Command whom are granted a plentiful amount of autonomy within their respective regiments. As a Legionnaire you are expected to familiarize yourself with your respective rank’s according authorities and duties, knowing that overstepping such may result in disciplinary action. THE SENIOR COMMAND The Imperial Field Marshal The August Fist of the Emperor At the helm of Oren’s military is the Field Marshal, the supreme commander-in-chief of the entirety of the Empire’s forces - only under the Emperor himself and his immediate family. Generally appointed in times of war, the Imperial Field Marshal is tasked with coordinating and retaining an operative military force of polished nature, overseeing and appointing junior officers, and spearheading military operations both near and far. The Imperial General The Hand of the Marshal Subordinate only to the Field Marshal within the ranks of the Legion, the General serves, fundamentally, as the former’s hand. It is he who sees to the garnering of aid wherever is necessary within the Legion. A competent administrator and strategist, it is the duty of the General to oversee and ensure the upkeep of the Empire’s various regiments. The Imperial Legates The Grandest Strategists and Leaders in the Realms of Man; Commanders of their Venerable Regiments Handpicked by the Emperor himself, the Imperial Legates act as skilled commanders and shrewd tacticians with an inborn charisma and familiarity with combat. It is through these brilliant leaders that the will of the Field Marshal - and, thereby, the Emperor - is executed. They are entrusted with power over specific Regiments of the Imperial Legion. THE HIGH COMMAND The Colonels The Lions of the Battlefield A Colonel is an experienced frontal leader whom has shown their worth through their martial capabilities. Subordinate to their Legate, they are linked to them as second in command of their respective regiment. In battle, the Colonel carries out their Legate’s orders to the mark. Should a Colonel of a regiment be dispatched, the senior of their Decurions will ascend to the post. The Decurions The Commanders of the Emperor’s Infantry The executors of the Colonels’ will. The Decurions are picked by their respective Colonel from their own regions within the Empire. They are tasked with administering the orders from above to their inferiors within their regiments, ensuring the Legions operates as it should, cohesively and with order. The Ensigns The Tried and Tested Leaders of Man The first of the High Command, the Ensigns serve the Empire as the primary commissioned officers. Tasked with the management of the lower rungs within the Imperial Army, the Ensigns are responsible for the upkeep of discipline and the supervision of the common soldier. THE RANKS OF FOOT The Sergeant-at-arms The Army’s Veteran and Skilled Soldiers of Man Sergeant-at-arms are experienced Legion soldiers whom have accrued veteran status and may command lower enlisted freely. Those with this rank are charged with conducting missions such as scouting, coordinating drills, as well as patrols. The Man-at-arms The Heart and Bulwark of Horen’s Sons Men-at-arms are the backbone of the Legion’s might. They are tried and tested soldiers who have passed their initiate phase and proved their worth. It is from here that soldiers will work to improve themselves and aid in the betterment of the Empire and her assets. Men-at-arms are expected to continuously strive to improve themselves and outperform other enlisted members; it is from here that a soldier may achieve upward mobility within the Legion, should a position present itself. The Initiates The Empire’s New Blood The beginning rank of a soldier, having no authority in the military. An initiate should set out with the wish to prove their mettle in the Emperor’s Legion. They are expected to know their place at all times, keeping in mind that only efficiency, obedience, and diligence will allow them to progress. SPECIALIZED RANKS The Quartermaster The Legion’s Quarter and Equipment Distributors A keystone of the Legion’s efficiency and might, the rank of Quartermaster is customarily assigned to a veteran officer with some form of labor skill. These men are entrusted with the maintenance of the vast array of the Legion’s military supply and logistic upkeep in regards to equipment. The Disciplinarian The Stalwart Keepers of Order The duty of the Disciplinarian is to ensure all soldiers of the Legion are in place and act properly according to the Codex and precedents set before them. Ordinarily these are the ones who lead drills, form lines, and deal out according punishment to soldiers whenever needed. The H.I.M.S. Princess Charlotte, H.I.M.S Prince Charles and the H.I.M.S Victory engage Ruric warships at the Battle Of Dogger Bay, dated 10th of The Grand Harvest 1557. III. STRUCTURE AND DIVISION OF THE LEGION The new system of Legion organization favors a centralized regimental system as opposed to an agglomerate of noble levies. Such an administrative complex - divided primarily amongst large, occupied regions - is instituted for the fundamental purpose of aiding in the logistics of both maintaining and providing ample energy to such an immense military force, as well as centering battle command amongst a select few whom have proved their salt. The Imperial Marshal Vibius de Sola maneuvering the Empire’s troops behind enemy lines in the war against the Dwarven-Orcish bloc, date unknown. IV. THE CODEX OF THE IMPERIAL LEGION The Codex is to be upheld at all times by every member of the Imperial Legion; they act as a formal set of codes which all soldiers are ushered and obliged to follow so as to ensure professionalism and rectitude in all actions. A man who follows these tenets true to the best of his abilities each day will quickly find himself rising through the ranks of the Empire’s Legion. I. To serve the Empire faithfully and without question. To disobey an order from the Emperor is akin to treason and will be dealt with, swiftly and harshly. II. To honour your fellow brothers in arms. Stealing from anyone in the Legion is akin to stealing from family. The first offence will be met with ten lashes, the second will result in the removal of the dominant hand and discharge. III. You are never to kill a fellow member of the Legion, unless said member is a threat to the Empire or your own life. To needlessly take the like of your fellow soldier will result in swift execution. IV. Act with dignity and maturity, show your prowess in combat and your manners and cool head in the street. You are not bandits, you will not speak like them. Be polite, calm and resolute. V. Never surrender to a foe, to surrender in battle brings shame to the Emperor's name. Fight to the last man. VI. When fighting an honourable adversary, show him the respect he affords you. When fighting a foe of no honour, extend none yourself. VII. The men of other levies within the Empire are not your foe, they too have been raised in the Emperor's name. Treat them with respect. VIII. Mission before self, the mission always comes first. You are to put the needs of the task at hand before yourself. An officer will put the mission first, then his men. Only then will he think of himself. An officer should always eat last, be the last one to go to sleep and be the first one up in the morning. IX. Protect the people of the Empire with your life. The people of the Empire should be your highest priority second only to your mission. An Imperial patrol stalks the outskirts of the Goldfields, dated 1616. V. ON TROOP WAGES, BENEFITS, AND INCENTIVES The Imperial Legion, being the backbone of the Empire’s grandiose military, is often revered as the strongest and most respected order of men in Axios. For their undying loyalty to the Empire, each enlisted man and woman are granted the right of attending all Imperial functions, those of which entry is oft only permitted to those of nobility. In addition, for their years of service, each Legionnaire will be granted a tax deduction of fifty percent in the province of the Crownlands. Furthermore, a career in the Imperial Legion is more sustainable now than ever. Each member of the Legion can expect to be clothed, fed, and provided with adequate accommodations within an assigned barracks or otherwise. The dealing of land to retiring soldiers of veteran status is a new addition to this legion in particular, and makes long-term service a viable avenue for many-a-man. In addition, it is rumored that flat wages, increasing by rank, shall be introduced in the near future for each sworn member of the Legion. Remnants of the Imperium Quintus fight for their independence against the Kingdom of Courland at the Battle of the Rothswoods, 1610. VI. CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS I. In order to qualify as an officer, one must be an Imperial Citizen with the ability to trace one’s lineage back up to two generations. Only full-blooded humans may serve in the ranks of High or Senior Command. II. Upon taking the oath, one must serve at minimum two years in the Legion before being considered for honorable discharge. III. All oathed men must have a firm grasp upon both Imperial Law as well as proper Etiquette at the Imperial Court, for they must enforce the laws of the Realm as well as maintain a proper image for not only themselves but the Empire as a whole. IV. Criminals, felons, illegal migrants, and otherwise may not serve in any proper regiment within the Imperial Legion bar from their explicit pardon by His Imperial Majesty. V. All prospective Imperial Officers must be literate so as to read and deliver battle orders. Men rush to enlist in the first legion upon the Emperor’s declaration of war against the Dreadlands, dated 1579. VII. ENLISTMENT AND JOINING In order to join the Imperial Legion, one needs only to submit a small form to the Imperial General or to the Legate of the Regiment they wish to join, requesting to be enlisted into the Imperial Army. Should a prospective applicant find themselves illiterate, one may also speak with an Imperial Officer in person. Whether one sends in an application or is recruited in person, they must answer these questions and they must be documented by the recruiter. Upon enlisting into the Army, a Legionnaire shall be given all the basic necessities of a soldier, a uniform, equipment, and housing. Contact your local recruitment officer to enlist today. ON HONORS, DECORATIONS, AND PROMOTION A wide array of military decorations have been carried on from previous Imperial Legions, and some new honorifics are currently in debate for institution. These serve as accolades for soldiers and carry with them a prestige that is not to be taken lightly once bestowed. ORDER OF THE IMPERIAL CROWN The highest honor one can achieve, the Order of the Imperial Crown is reserved for only the greatest of the Empire. Men such as Uthor Silverblade, Peter Chivay would be awarded with the Order of the Imperial Crown. These men wear the medal upon their neck proudly, knowing the Emperor himself has seen their actions as the most worthy of any man in the Empire. Spoiler ORDER OF MERIT One of the highest honors a man can achieve, the three degrees of the Order of Merit are awarded only to the most stalwart and heroic of Imperial men and women. Through battle or otherwise, the bearers of the Order of Merit have proven themselves to be those the Emperor can rely on the most for their loyalty and unwavering devotion to his vision. Spoiler ORDER OF THE RHOSWENII Named in recognition of the past Order of the White Rose, the Order of the Rhoswenii is a medal granted to members of the legions that have proven to be experienced fighters and exceptional leaders. Spoiler MEDAL OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Containing only a single degree, the Medal of Distinguished Service is awarded most commonly to soldiers having served in the Imperial forces for upwards of fifteen years. The bearers of this title wear the medal proudly on their uniform. Spoiler ORDER OF BRAVERY For those who show themselves to be truly selfless and willing to charge headlong into the fires, there is the Order of Bravery. Often heroic Knights and courageous soldiers who have shown little regard for their safety when the Empire is on the line. Spoiler NATIONAL DEFENSE MEDAL The National Defense Medal is awarded for those that have served their entire Tour of Service of eight years. Spoiler GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL The Good Conduct Medal is awarded to soldiers that have proven to be exemplary models and have received no negative marks on performance.
