Priceflash 832 Share Posted July 5, 2017 lol "nexus killed blacksmith rp" my ass if anyone enjoys roleplaying hitting an anvil with a hammer by themselves for an hour then they can still do it now
Wyvernbane 252 Share Posted July 5, 2017 I know at least three active blacksmiths who roleplay every item they make. If you want to be a good blacksmith, try pairing a high nexus skill to good roleplay like all three of these gents do.
MangoArt 399 Share Posted July 5, 2017 About the Alchemist thing. I rarely actually grind Alchemist on my Halfling brewer character. I just RP him brewing ****. I have a barrel in the village that's just supposed to be his barrel he fills up.
NotEvilAtAll 10906 Share Posted July 5, 2017 In my opinion, Nexus doesn't kill blacksmithing RP, it just drastically oversimplifies it. No longer is there the need to actually read on how to forge something; people just click a few buttons to make gear out of materials, and thus the actual process of creating metal items is easier to ignore if all you need is an anvil and a few materials in order to get a mechanical item. There was never any need to do that. And you usen't to even need an anvil. Have you ever played Minecraft?

Yes, I have played minecraft before, I understand that normal MC crafting ain't perfect, but at least if you want to emote making something you don't need to wait 30 minutes after you've made it. Lark 2227 Share Posted July 6, 2017 Blacksmithing roleplay was never killed by Nexus, nor any sort of roleplay. People just got lazy, even I did. Profession RP was never big to begin with, there were a few farmers amongst the halflings, plenty of merchants and craftsmen amongst the dwarves (seriously the dwarven capital's bazarr back in 3.0 was amazing and I wish it got more rp there). There were bartenders and farmers in the human and elvish regions to. You had all sorts of profession roleplayers, but it wasn't very widespread. I do however believe that Nexus has made it much harder to do these professions as people please. That was the whole thing with LotC prior to Nexus. Lord of the Craft, Pre-Nexus, is by all definitions a systemless roleplaying game. We have no standard set of rules or true mechanics for combat, events, crafting, etc. Unlike a physical game which while time consuming to write, is only barred by your imagination, dice, and words. Lord of the Craft is bound by the limitations of imagination, words, and Code. It wouldn't be worth making a realistic profession system for any of the professions because while it would be cool and customizable, it just wouldn't really work because Minecraft doesn't work that way. I'm sure there are other ways of making the skill system easier though.
