The Synod of 1622

10th of the Deep Cold, 1622

[!] The electors convene to commence the Synod in the Chapel of St Everard.

“To the faithful,

It is with great sorrow that the Holy Canonist Church witnesses the death of His Holiness, High Pontiff Clement II, great unifier of the flock. Within the hallowed walls of the Chapel of St Everard in Ponce, the bishop electors are convened and guided by the holy Light of the Godhead, are sworn to fidelity to the Canon and resignation to the wisdom of God in their task to select the next Vicar of God.”

As the chapel is illuminated with the flickering flames of a multitude of candles and the chants of supplication to the saints in the Seven Skies echoes through the chamber, the electors of the Synod sit as they begin in solemn prayer. Vice-Chancellor Boniface begins the initial deliberations as he announces the beginning of the convocation with a benediction. Subsequently, he then reads aloud a passage from the Scrolls of the Canon, reiterating the canticles of virtues and reminding his fellow brothers of the episcopate the nature of their task and obedience to the successor of the High Priesthood.

Furthermore, the conclave of 1622 has been commenced. Voting shall begin and shall conclude when it is herein witnessed that three-fifths of the electors have casted their ballots to whom the Godhead has willed to succeed to the Immaculate Throne.

Dear brothers, I stand before you in humility, and if I may be candid, with great reluctance. I look to the altar, contemplating the nature of our Church and the great optimism I sense in its future. I look upon my own diocese and see the great fervor of faith, the enthusiastic thirst for truth, and the stalwart obedience to God that they have expressed for the greater good of Our Lord. As Archbishop of Jorenus, I have fostered the faith of our Holy Church with indefatigable efforts mainly to distribute alms to the poor, hold mass for the laity, bear witness to the sacred Union of matrimony among commoners and nobles alike, and sharing in their joys of new fruit and in the grief to those whom have gone back to the Godhead. I believe in this Church because I have witnessed it firsthand in the streets of Alban. I have seen the great bounty of God manifest itself toward our brethren in the flock.

Dear brothers, it is my intention to take upon the duties of the Pontificate, not in pursuit of vainglory and the toils of selfish interest, but  to serve rather than to be served, to cooperate with those whom God Himself has anointed to lead our lands, to clarify our sacred doctrine, and to carry on the sacred tradition of the line of priests who have ushered in guidance and piety as an example to the faithful flock.

With that in mind, I pray for my own intentions and more importantly, for the intentions of our Holy Church.

Nikolas eloquently  scribes the meticulously formed letters that spell "Josef of Alban" onto his ballot, before submitting it with a soft prayer.

Would walk up to the entry box, last in a line of holy men. He already had his vote made up, and he inscribed the name 'Josef of Alban', onto his ticket. 'God bless Josef' hed say, as he walks back to his seat smiling

Holy Ser Edward Bronislav I watches from a Cathedral pillar, as he waits for each member to hurry up and announce the next High Pontiff, hopefully in another Forum post. (wink wink)
