Runelords Rising

The chilled winds of the desert night churned slowly through the air as the cloaked figures made their way towards the lone tower that stood before the thanium pit. As they trudged along, the figure at the head scanned the landscape with old eyes as they slowly trudged along, their black robes swirling around them in the cold winds. From the path he noted the weathered banners of the Arcadians that hung along the bridge and the encampment of soldiers living just beneath the tower. Saying nothing to the grunts and officers stood about the fire, they climbed the steps of the tower and enter its thickly bolted doors.

Once up the lift, several minutes passed as the old dwarf and his compatriots made their way up to the council chambers and sat down in several of the chairs. With a glance about the darkened room the old dwarf swirled his finger about the ring on his finger, slowly tracing the delicate and powerful runes across its surface. Each time he brushed a new rune, the gem in the center began to glow more brightly until an intense glow illuminated his face. Several moments passed before six other rings began to appear on the table before him, vanishing from the respective fingers and lock boxes of their previous owners. With a broad smile he lowered his hand and the glow of the ring faded as he grasped the length of his staff and slammed it against the stonework of the floor beside his chair. In an instant, the torches and fires of The Citadel roared and grew as the tower of the Runelords once more lit up the skies.

The Runelords had returned to The Citadel.
