fighting evil by moonlight 455 Share Posted December 13, 2017 What is a way to stop a new magic (or an existing, for that matter) from being "cliquey"? Is the teaching system inherently flawed, or is there a way to tweak it so that players feel they have an equal shot of getting a magic? Personally, I think restrictions on number of teachers (that doesn't make sense in lore), forced hierarchies and single "leader"s of magics contribute to the exclusion of outsiders. There has to be a way to distribute magic, aside from self teach apps exclusively, that both hold people accountable for learning the magic while still allowing a diverse group to RP it. Currently writing something neat, and I'd like to hear community feedback to prevent this from going straight to a single group of people.
ScreamingDingo 20568 Share Posted December 13, 2017 easy way to stop this would be just removing magic in general

mmat 7460 Share Posted December 13, 2017 I honestly don't think there is a big problem with there being a few cliques of magic, because it has little effect. Frost witches for example, are a pretty closed off group and that doesn't have an issue with it for most people. The problem comes when the lore team accepts so much magic, and so many pieces of lore that literally everything is segmented. There's an azdrazi clique, a paladin clique, a cleric clique a blood magic clique, etc etc etc. Magic should have a cliquey aspect to it in my opinion because people shouldn't be able to get everything they want just because they want it, and I don't think the cliqueyness is the real issue, it's effect on general rp is. There is a '''clique'''' (ironically) of players who write lore ******* constantly to add new magicks and new ooga booga creatures to the server without ever questioning whether or not this lore bloat is having an effect. Tl;dr cliques are rarely a problem, you're asking the wrong question.
GDPR 014 48 Share Posted December 13, 2017 magic, as it is now, only feasibly allows for elves to learn magic effectively (humans with autoage on or just in general will be dead before they learn their 3rd magic, if they want to do that). There needs to be something where either humans a) learn magic quicker, b) all races have their lifespan extended because they channel the power, or c) make magic quicker. On a case with limited teachers: If it doesn't make sense RPly, be it through IC/RP means, or through Lore, then something needs to be done. I recommend what Jaeden said, and encourage the magic group to take on more players. THOUGH, If you force it so someone can grandfather in, there poses a problem OOCly; it's a slippery slope, and one that can have the person who got grandfathered in torn apart by the actual group that has it, or not given any help from said group and potentially RP the magic wrong due to limited guidelines. 41 minutes ago, GrimReaper98 said: easy way to stop this would be just removing magic in general 2 Upvote this works too
