Standing At The Edge of Glory

Carsandra stood at the edge of the Yati Wasteland, dressed in her winter clothes. Besides her was her boyfriend, also dressed in winter clothes and armor to match. They both stood in silence for a moment, then she turned to look out at the green grass fields, the flowers, and tree's. All where dead now because of the Snow Maiden's grip, but in the Spring time, she imaged them blooming in full.

"Are we ready to do this?" He asked softly, adjusting the pack on his shoulder, burdened with their supplies, and looking at her with a quirked eyebrow. She nodded her head slowly, gazing back at him as well. "You know, once we live here, we both can never go back to the Dominion. We'll be seen as heretics, and banned permanently. You'll never see your family again, or Uncle Artimec, or Azoth, for that matter. Once we step inside, we cannot return."

She paused, the weighty ideas of what he said floating fast through her mind. The memories of her arrival, meeting her Uncle, meeting her boyfriend, meeting her second Uncle, meeting the rest of her family. She remembered certain bits with fondness, and others, not so much.

"Of course I'm ready to leave my entire family behind to escape the war with my boyfriend...wow, that sounded really weird and crazy out-loud.." She laughed. "I suppose I will miss some of my family, and Azoth. But the Dominion itself? Not really. It made a poor choice to go to war against the wrong people, the Orcs. Not saying that Orcs don't deserve the hatred, but so does Marna for passing the slavery law, and yet, the officials are keeping silent about that."

He nodded, "Aye, there are some things that I wish to leave behind and not. And, you can always send them letters."

She blinked, then nodded. Looking back at the wasteland with a heavy sigh. She took the step in, the icy cold and winter chill not affecting her skin she was snug in her winter clothes. And together, they walked into the city.
