“Mordring was deified; the chapters told tales of Him, but few knew the truth.

He was radiant once, as were we all. But His contempt for mortality drove Him

to abandon me, and my brethren.”

Borne of the Lord of Morning’s goodwill, the Nexus was once a Draconic Lexicon known as the Radiant Shard. It is said within the Shard there shined leagues of powerful information capable of lifting mortality up to imperceivable heights, but early-age men despaired Mordring’s gifts, and so it was cast to obscurity.

Four Human men who took claim to it amidst the 30 Year War drew from the Radiant Shard the power of Darkening; the sorcery to steal power from the Gods, and afflict them with the mortal experience. With this, they stole Necromancy from Iblees, and then set its newfound darkness upon the Shard with the belief it could become a vessel of their power. Twisted by Old Necromancy, the Radiant Shard’s light was broken and the incomprehensible trove of knowledge within almost completely sundered; where within, what is known as the Idea of Bedlam was made manifest.

Scorned by the Old Lords through its creation, the Idea of Bedlam lashed out at them in an act of retaliation, and cursed them forevermore by stripping their spirit of their coverings of flesh and blood and bone. Borne from such terrible unraveling was the embodiment of all of mortalkind’s evils: the Dark Wraiths.

Thereon, the Old Lords would walk the earth in atonement for their sins, and come to instill Godlessness among the races of men. With Old Necromancy acting as the foundation by which they exist, it was fated that all who inherited their power would become the masters of the dead, and the overseers of the grave -- and the lost and forsaken Nexus, their ark of judgement.

Synopsis

The Black Nexus is an ancient Necromancer artifact that was created from a Draconic Lexicon (made by Mordring) that contains an entity known as the Idea of Bedlam. It cannot be truly defined as an actual being, moreso a loose representative presence that delineates the innate evils of mankind and the definition of chaos in the material world. At this end, it is related to the Abyss and it’s respective types of influence, and could by extension be considered the Abyss’ more contained, concentrated progenitor.

Because it was previously a grand store of knowledge, the power trapped within the Nexus was essentially melted down into a black soup of unintelligible madness; it's knowledge corrupted beyond repair. But some flecks of the Radiant Shard’s brilliance remains, only able to dredged up from the corruption with the use of the Lexicon’s lost controller.

Previously, the Nexus was used in order to propagate the creation of Dark Wraiths, who once again rose in the era of Anthos before the power was stripped from the Lexicon via combined efforts by several Aengudaemonic orders. The spell known as the Sacrament of Silence, or “clotting”, remained safe however, thus incentivizing Necromancer Covens to revere it as their “ark of judgement”. It is with the Nexus alone that the dissentious are eliminated, preventing rogues and rebels among those who use the magic.

Conditions

  • The Black Nexus must be built and confirmed of its location with the MT.

  • The Black Nexus cannot be used as a weapon or a tool of destruction.

  • The Black Nexus cannot be destroyed by mundane, arcane or holy means.

  • The Black Nexus is used to initiate the Sacrament of Silence, or the “clotting” of Necromancers.

  • The Black Nexus can be stolen or transported, but this requires several people and other utilities such as a cart or something relative able to transport its ton-high weight. The Petrified Arbiter is capable of teleporting the Nexus to another location through a ritual that cannot be disturbed and requires thorough coordination, which can be easily disrupted if known how to.

“The foundations tumbled in on themselves,

And mothers clutching babies scoured the rubble,

Finding nothing, and tearing at their hair.

The skyline was beautiful, on fire;

All scorched stone stretching upwards,

Everything washed in fading orange haze.”

With the downfall of the Lord of Morning, Mordring, his noble fellowship known as the Greyscale Knighthood had been cast in disarray. Long had the Nexus’ obscurity been ruminate upon, but never the controller or vessel that Mordring had ordained upon the Lexicon’s creation; the tool with which the Radiant Shard’s endless font of knowledge and power may be channeled and shared with the world. Many Draconic Lexicons had been forged by the Dragaarkind, but few had been paired with one alike Mordring’s designs.

There is a nameless High Priestess that had been ordained Mordring’s rightful heir and servant, whom the Greyscale Knights had deified as the Daughter of the Dawn. Within the Daughter of the Dawn, Mordring placed the designs of his Lexicon’s controller; making her the controller itself, and thus the one destined to spread the Radiant Shards blessings across the land. Upon her venerable father’s unraveling, she rose as his replacement, as it had been dictated ages before -- but a terrible omen soon followed her assumption of command.

When the Lord of Morning abandoned his radiance to escape the fate of the Drakaar without submitting to the Stone, his fate had not been escaped but rather diverted to another victim. With her father’s Lichdom realized deep within the Abyss, the High Priestess had been chosen to shoulder the Omen of Stone, where before the eyes of the men who revered her as the last of their Lord’s lineage she slowly petrified across the scope of a decade.

Driven into madness by the ossification of their Dear Lady, the Greyscale Knighthood plummeted into a malicious darkness no better than the fate Mordring chose for himself. From the calcified form of the Daughter of the Dawn, a weapon was chiseled down; condemning her spirit to be trapped within the unbreakable confinements of a sword dubbed the Petrified Arbiter.

In legend, the Greyscale Knights are said to have hunted Dragons, the kindred of Mordring, so they may bathe in their blood and inherit the power of the Dragaar. With the Petrified Arbiter, the final killing blow was struck upon the each of them, and thus made it into a tool of bloodletting. Through this, and its inherent connection the Nexus, the spirit of the High Priestess was pushed into an anguish so deep it stripped what remained of her being and cast her into a forlorn and silent dormancy.

Synopsis

The Petrified Arbiter is what remains of Mordring’s Daughter of the Dawn, who acted as the High Priestess of the Greyscale Knights on account of having been made as the Radiant Shard’s Lexiconic controller. Having turned to stone across a decade and then chipped down by the men who deified her, she was made into a sword that housed her spirit. The ritualistic slaughter of Dragons and the sword’s inherent connection to the Radiant Shard, which soon became the Black Nexus, defiled her essence until her soul was driven into deep, dark dormancy.

Through this series of events, this had given the Black Nexus a makeshift Lexiconic controller; a tool with which it can be interacted with, and its given power known as the Sacrament of Silence can be used beyond the Nexus’ immediate vicinity upon those chosen to be clotted. However, the ages have worn down upon the sword and the countless Dragonkind subjected to its bloodletting edge have nullified a majority of its killing capabilities. With its former glory faded through these acts of barbarism, the only role it now plays is to exist as the Nexus’ extension of influence.

With the Petrified Arbiter, one may clot a Necromancer beyond the Nexus’ reach (if they bear the power themselves), initiate special but risk-involved interactions with the Nexus, and initiate a transportation ritual where the Black Nexus may be automatically moved to another location on the map every three months.

Conditions

  • The Petrified Arbiter has lost what power it once had, and thus has become an irreparable sword ineffective in the act of murder or harm.

  • The Petrified Arbiter, much like the Black Nexus, cannot be destroyed.

  • The Petrified Arbiter cannot be cleansed.

  • If the Petrified Arbiter is stolen and kept locked away for a month without interaction or use or transportation upon one’s person, a ritual can be conducted from the Black Nexus by three Necromancers capable of clotting able to phase it from captivity and back into their hands.

  • The Petrified Arbiter may be used to initiate special events where the Nexus’ darkness is peered through in search of special, remnant pieces of ancient knowledge, much to the risk of the player-character (of which may range from permanent mental damage to permanent death).

Thank you for submitting your piece, it is now under review. Expect a reply within two weeks. We are trying something new so it should be sooner than that but things may go horrifically wrong so who knows.

This Lore has been denied.

While we understand the black nexus exists already, the team is not in favor of passing this lore. This is primarily due to the sword and how it acts as a portable means of disconnection, capable of being hoarded by an individual who can in turn summon the nexus to their location.
