Sacking of Vasiland by Scyfling raiders

IN PURSUIT OF JUSTICE

Firstly I shall address the call for peace. Now there is no argument between choice, peace and war. But there is only one guaranteed way to have peace, that is to surrender. I wonder what kind of peace would this be, who among us would like to approach a family whose husband, wife, daughter or son has been killed by the Scyfling invaders. I dare anyone to look me in the eye, and say they would rather we make peace with the barbarians. I would tell them of the sacking of Vasiland, how my people took refuge in the Castle only to be slaughtered by Scyfling raiders. How my son, a boy no older than four was hacked to pieces. My cousins who died defending their home. I watched brother Brytanov burn at the hands of those monsters. Yet there are those who still believe we could coexistence. This is not peace, it is appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning friends refuse to face. There is only the choice between fight and surrender.

Aftermath of the Siege of Vasiland

There those who are ignorant. . . ignorant to the sacrifices and horrors of this war. To those I welcome them to walk the halls of Vasiland and see first hand the unholy acts these invaders have done. They are free to wander through the Wickwood, and witness the destruction to our lands the invaders have brought.

Some may try to justify the actions of the Scyflings. Much like us they are humans, and have families but that is where the similarities end. Whatever twisted reason they have to justify their horrible actions matters little. Whatever culture they were raised in doesn’t account for their quest to kill our King and destroy Haense. Whatever argument can be made to show their humanity is lost when you only look at their deeds.

Haense must win this war, therefore we must fight, we must sacrifice, we must endure. We must fight as if the future of our nation depends on us. The will of Haeseni people will not be broken, as has been said for every conflict that has threatened us, “We would have perished had we not persisted.” Therefore, we are left between two choices: surrender to the invaders or fight for our home.

Signed,

 Brandon Vanir, Margrave of Vasiland

An ominous note would be left nailed to Brandon Vanir’s holdings “You squabble among yourselves, unawares of the true threat before you.. You shall see first-hand that all is not what it seems.”

A tear fell down Angelika’s speech as she read her brother’s writing. She recalled the sieging of her brother’s home, and the many deaths and injuries of her family members. ”May they rest in peace,” she muttered softly with a long sigh, before returning to her work.

“To those who think peace may exist:

It may, but only when we have crushed the invader with fire and steel and routed them from Haensetian lands. I have looked upon Vasiland and spoken with the Lord Vanir, and the invaders’ effects upon this northern land are starkly clear; I looked upon a broken land, still burning with the flame of war, and have spoken with a hollow, beleaguered man, who wanted nothing more than to live at peace with his family.

It is this precise moment, when we are content with victory and arrogant enough to extend the olive branch, that the Scyflings may resurge. We must not let them! Desperation makes men madder, and this ‘Crowslayer’s Vow’ they uphold as some rallying point, as some religious dogma, will only make them ever more dangerous. We must drive north, we must purge the enemy, and only then may Haense be at peace. This, even from my short time within the realm, is obvious.

Let the war-drums beat. Haense or Scyfling; one must fly, one must fall.”

-Keaton II Errmark would dictate the following to a nurse in the Haenseti hospital.
