Chieftain Skylar Taliame’onn - Wiseman of the Irrinite Healing Lodge

Purpose

The Apothecary of Siramenor, also known as the Irrinite Healing Lodge, exists to provide succor for the frail, sickly and injured while also providing young healers with the ancient herbal knowledge of the Wood Elven people. In doing so, the healers of the wild faith help those in need while keeping alive the ancient cultural and religious institutions of their woodland elvish people.

Spoiler

For centuries, the daily lives of the Mali’ame tribes have been heavily intertwined with religion and worship. Their hunters seek the blessing of the Horned God, praying to the Mani Prince of the animal fallen by their hands; the education of their children is given with reverence to Ohowaki; and the very food they eat is thanked for and blessed with a prayer to the Forest Gods and Spirits.

Similarly, the arts involving herbs and healing have long been practiced with an equal niche. Distant to the roles pharmacists and doctors take in the lands of other races, the healers of Irrinite tribes employ methods considered by outsiders as “witchcraft.” For they are the wise women, the medicine men, and the spiritual healers of their people. By combining the spiritual blessings requested from their gods, herbal remedies passed down from generation to generation, and even the druidic gifts of herb blessing, these Mali’ame have ensured the health of their Seeds since the dawn of their nomadic life; to the modern villages of united, primal tribes.

“Healing is both mind and soul, dedicated to a Mali by another.”

~Melethre, Wisewoman of the Irrinite Healing Lodge.

Spoiler

Nursery - The first class that students take. The taelu’ir will be taught to first care for patients in simple ways; such as giving them water, changing their linens, and feeding them. They will learn to change bandaging, assess general health, and give simple medicinal products such as minor teas for aches and calming, or syrups and tinctures for assisting the rate of healing after a medicine women or man has healed the wounds. The student will be taught the prayers and offerings of healing, to aid in the blessings of the goddesses Cerridwen and Hamatsa, Mother of Life and Mani of Healers, respectively.

Herbalism - An adjacent class to nursery that a taelu’ir will take. They will be taught to harvest the herbs from the apothecary’s garden, and will learn to create many herbal remedies from recipes passed down by Mali’ame Seeds. They will learn the difference between a balm and a salve, a lotion and a cream, and when to apply them. They will learn to process herbs into essential oils, infused oils, infused waters, and decoctions. Students will be taken out in the field and taught to identify both simple and potent medicinal herbs.

General Healing - At this point, the student’s first two classes begin to intertwine, and become one. This task leads them into gaining the title of Medicine Man or Medicine Woman. They are healers recognized by their people, who have been taught to heal cuts, burns, breaks, sprains, sicknesses, etc. Their field of study stretches all ailments to the Elven body, but stops at childbirth and surgeries.

Midwifery - This class prepares women to become Springmaidens, the female midwife servants of the sacred pregnant Mali. They are taught how to support a mother emotionally and physically during their pregnancy, including any herbal remedies to support her with the development of the baby, nausea, mood swings, and general symptoms of pregnancy. They will be taught to deliver a baby and care for it, and will treat the mother even after labor with herbal remedies for things such as boosting milk production.

Surgery - Medicine men and women who have served their people as healers for quite some time may choose to expand their knowledge into the complex practice of surgery. This is the longest course as it depends highly on applied practice in emergency situation, and one must learn for many years before gaining the title Hamatsa’s Knife.

Ranks

Spoiler

Taelu'ir

Tealu’ir is a word that means ‘learner’ in the old elvish tongue, and indeed, those who bare this rank are neophytes and students, each one assigned to a wiseman or wisewoman to learn the rites and practices of their chosen field. They serve as assistants and secondaries to wisewomen and medicine men when treating the sick and injured.

Medicine Man / Medicine Woman

An adept healer, well-learned in their field and in general herblore. These men and women make up the bulk of the Apothecary Healing Lodge.

Wise-woman / Wise-man

Masters in their chosen field, experts in knowledge of the healing rites of the elnarnsae’ame, Wisemen and Wisewomen are elves with a deep and intimate knowledge of healing beyond all others. They are the principal teachers and leaders of the Apothecary and responsible for the training of taelu’ir and medicine men and women.

Spring Maiden

Spring Maidens work in midwifery, and all duties involving the care of pregnant women and safe delivery of elven children. They are exclusively women and feminine men (who will only serve a pregnant woman if she is comfortable with a male midwife), and hold perhaps the most sacred of all elven healer duties.

Hamatsa's Knife

Hamatsa’s Knife is the rank of a surgeon. They are advanced healers who have been general medicine men for quite some time and have taken the surgery course. They train the longest of all positions, and spend much time learning the intricacies of the body, and how to treat these insides directly with blades, guided by the spirit of Hamatsa.
