A painting of Stervon Shadowsteel

When he became a Lieutenant

To Colonel Peter D’Arkent,

I am sad to say but I am no longer fit to stay in the ISA. I am no longer the young man who joined the ISA back in Helena when I was 20 years of age, for now I am nearly in my sixties. I can barely lift my left arm due to the many beatings it has taken over the years. Due to the injuries taken to my left arm, I am finding it increasingly difficult to find an advantage in combat and I am no master tactician. This means that I can no longer be effective within the ISA. Lastly I am haunted by the things that I have seen during my time with the Imperial State Army. So I must make a difficult decision and end my 40 years of service to the Holy Orenian Empire. So I ask you, Colonel Peter D’Arkent, the one who oathed me to discharge me from the Imperial State Army.

My History within the ISA

I returned to Helena five years after I found my Father ,Arthur Shadowsteel, dead with a knife in his back. As soon as I reached Helena I went round asking if there was any work to be completed. Then I met Thomas Aquilla who was a Lieutenant at the time. He offered to make me a recruit and I quickly accepted the opportunity. After a short wait I was introduced to Peter D'Arkent who was the Captain of the Third Brigade at the time. I was then Oathed and officially became a Soldier of the Imperial State Army.

During my time as a Recruit I met Jason Woodward a Private at the time and Velhrun Darkwood who was also a Recruit. After a visit to the Third Brigades base I was given an opportunity of having special training from a man known as Aplex who was a Lieutenant. Due to having special training it meant that I got quickly promoted to a Private.

Not much happened during my time as a Private apart from me joining the Third Brigade , the cavalry unit of the ISA. When I became a Corporal, my time within the ISA improved. As a Corporal I had met two of my dearest friends, Methas Bennett later known as Methas Shaw and Willem Galbraith, who I consider to be the brother I never had. Together we defeated bandits and we opened the Cactus Cafe, where we sold food but with a cactus twist to them. Even though the legendary Cafe known as the Cactus Cafe didn’t last long it was a chapter in my life that I will never forget. Soon after Methas was forced to leave the ISA after pushing me into someone.

Now we reach the time of the war against Sutica. During the Sutican war I was promoted to Sergeant. At the start of the war a event took place which will be etched in my mind forever. I was in front of the Bastille and felt a sudden pain in my left shoulder that swept me off my feet. I turned to the source of the excruciating pain and saw a crossbow bolt  protruding from my left shoulder. A man quickly walked up to me and used a tool to knock me out.

Later when I woke up, the man who had knocked me out demanded to be paid for the materials he had used to heal me. I gave him the money, even though it wasn't very much. Later he returned the money that I paid him.

During the war against Sutica my dear friend, Methas had become a traitor. Every night I would return to my room within the barracks and I would have terrifying nightmares where I would kill my friend Methas. Those nightmares still haunt me to this day.

After the promotion of Velhrun Darkwood to Captain, I was promoted to Lieutenant and became the new master of the Vanguard. During an attack against the Imperial State Armies camp by the Inferi, I received another injury when one threw an axe at my left shoulder. During the attack I managed to get the other,  more seriously injured comrades and put them in a cart for transportation to Helena.

I was one of the first to command everyone to go to the Bastille so we could use the tunnels underneath to evacuate citizens to the Eye of Man when the first cracks appeared in the floor.

That is my history within the Imperial State Army. It has been an honour to serve among so many honorable and good comrades. This was a difficult decision to make but I don’t think that I am able to serve within the ISA anymore. If Colonel Peter D’Arkent decides to accept to discharge me, I would like to be formally discharged in 21 saints days so I may choose who will be the next Master of the Vanguard.

“I have lost many friends during my time within the Imperial State Army, like Jason Woodward, but I have made more friends than I have lost, like Willem Galbraith, Jack Cenobia, Matthias Stafford and Peter D’Arkent, friends that I will never forget.”

Signed Lieutenant Stervon Shadowsteel

Master of the Vanguard

Soldier of the Imperial State Army

OOC stuff:

I have been in the ISA for about 8 months. I joined the ISA the day after I joined the server which was on the 9th March 2020. This was a extremely difficult decision to make as the ISA has been my life for so long but I no longer have the time and I don't think its realistic that Stervon would be effective within the ISA.

Thank you to everyone who has made my time within the ISA enjoyable.

Below are some guys I would like to thank personally for being epic people:

 - Wagwan (Willem Galbriath) for being one of my greatest friends irp and oocly

 - Erik0821 (Peter D'Arkent) For being an epic guy

-Froschli for teaching me things about the ISA and the server

-Ozziemine (Jason Woodward) for being a good dad on another char

I would like to be discharged on the 27th December

Captain Ledicort d’Azor would read the a copy of the letter as he remained still at his desk. “Stervon Shadowsteel....” He would take out a bottle of whiskey from his desk as he cracked opened cork and poured out a fine amount into a glass. He raised the glass up, “To a man that served the people of Holy Orenian Empire with full regard, and to a man that worked tirelessly for the Imperial State Army with dedication. And lastly, To a man that I am most proud to call my brother, comrade, and friend — to Stervon.” He would move to take down the contents of the drink, moving back to his duty as he considered there interactions over the decades.

[!] The following letter would be dispatched to the former Lieutenant Stervon Shadowsteel [@AdventureMaan]:

"Dear veteran soldier and friend,

You have served the Imperial State Army with diligence and honor for decades, and your deeds within it will never be forgotten and will live for generations.

As Orenians, me and my wife have a great respect for our veterans and want to ensure that they live with dignity and receive all the aid they need. Thus, I would like to invite you to my house in the City of Providence to personally meet you and offer you anything you and your family may need to live with dignity after your retirement.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Sincerely,

It has been my honor to serve by your side and as your superior from the days when I was but a recruit, I can only hope that your retirement grants you the rest you deserve after all the years you have spent for the empire nothing less would be acceptable! Specialist Jacker Gendik would be really touched by the words that he just heard as he would state "not only was Stervon Shadowsteel a good teacher he was a good brother, a good friend and a great leader." As he heard the news from Stervon Shadowsteel himself he would clap his riding boots together and render him a firm salute "I'll see you soon dear friend"
