Saga of the Rat Demon

ArtStation - Fat Rat Speedpainting, Eren ARIK

On the streets of Yong Ping, an old man gives a tale to a group of children:

Years ago, a race of beastmen known as the Musin lived outside of Yong Ping. They lived in their village, living peacefully within their boroughs. Amongst these Musin was an ordinary rat. As you know, most rats are driven out as they carried disease! But the Musin protected this little rat, and fed it sweet berries, and before long the rat became ordinary and tame; and it lived in peace with the Musin.

But before long, the Musin abandoned their village and struck out to other places. The rat watched as, one by one, the villagers left and the light had left the homes. And then it was alone. The rat would go, alone, house to house to search for his Musin friends, but alas, they were gone.

Soon, the rat grew hungry. It was used to being fed, you see, so with no Musin about it had to find other food! It would go into the fields, eating grain, but the farmers shooed it away. Desperate for food, the rat would sneak into homes and steal people's food. Over time, people took notice and set traps for the rat, so it stopped going to homes.

But the rat was still so hungry. Since it could not eat, it went into the forest. There, the rat saw the corpse of a hunter that had been gored by a boar. With an empty belly, and nothing left to lose, the rat began to eat. And eat. And eat until its belly was full.

It continued to eat the flesh of men, sneaking into graveyards in the middle of the night when innocent souls were in bed, digging at the loose earth to satiate its hunger, but no matter how much it ate, it wanted more.

Some say it continues to eat, waiting in the villager for its friends to return.

Tianrui Ryu sits upon a table within the Jade State of Yong Ping, discussing matters of state with his friend and colleague the Protector General of the Jade State and Minister of Defense.  They both chuckle while the children spread the aforementioned tale amongst their friends and come to believe it wholeheartedly. Ryu then speaks up to his friend and says "The minds of children, truly a wonderful thing." They then continue their conversation.
