Author’s Note

A very special thanks to his dear friends Daliah and Nura al-Hattan, and Nour Al-Nabeel. It would not be without Daliah’s extra teaching and Nura’s many cookies that this book would be written.

المقدمه

Introduction

Come, weary traveler and read of Kessiri’s tales! He has traveled many lands and seen many outlandish things, and he shares with you now some of his favorites to this very day! There are many more, and if you are lucky you shall know them all. If you are even luckier still, you shall join Kessiri as storyteller and tell your own audiences of your grand adventures!

الصناديق و جوز الهند

Crates and Coconuts

Our story first takes place in the Qalasheen lands of the Qamar Sheikdom. A land where glittering sands meet shining sea! It was some seven years ago when this one decided to live in the Sheikdom, he had friends from his visits before and the food was delicious. So, he moves in with his friend Daliah and we have many adventures - he can recount them all another time, but the one in particular he remembers the most is a particular day on the docks when Daliah challenges him to a test of strength. Now, this one is the pre-eminent crate-lifter in all the lands, second only to one! That being his father of course. But! He has no issue with friendly sport, nor earning his title back should the need ever arise! So he accepts of course. They travel down to the docks and set eyes on their quarry. Fresh crates just off the boats! This one is well-versed in crate construction as well as lifting, and he knew they were weak, but he also thinks to himself that they made it this far - so they try regardless. This one lifts the first two crates, effortlessly as expected. Friend Daliah matches him, and even raises him three! Oho, a challenge he sees! He goes to pick up four, and the first taste of disaster is bitter and swift… And coconut flavored. Coconuts scatter everywhere across the docks as the sides of the crates fall away! This one saw it coming, and now it had come to gnaw on his tail. There would be more though. Oh, yes it does not stop yet. Friend Daliah sees this and foolishly believes herself immune to misfortune. Hubris strikes her like it strikes the seagull who has found an entire loaf of bread and decides to try to swallow it whole! Even more coconuts scatter across the deck as the crates she goes to lift fall apart, just as this one's did! Now, Kessiri is currently outmatched in this challenge even if only by technical fault. So from beneath a mountain of coconuts he rises. Lifting five - yes, five crates at once, he heaves them to the skies! And they balance perfectly, coconuts contained, and Kessiri's title maintained! With this business out of the way they share a hearty laugh and clean up their mess. The celebrations are shared of course over shawarma and tea. But this, dear readers, is a cautionary tale! Though it has a happy ending, do not forget to always check your crate fastenings.

عرض و عشاء

Dinner and a Show

For our next tale, to Talon's Port we go! It was not so long ago, in fact - so fresh in this one's memory he can still smell it… He returns to Talon's Port after many years of wandering the deserts with his traveling companion, eager for a warm meal and familiar faces. He sees the Lady Lenora at the gates, but besides this, the city seems to be mostly sleeping. So! We wander the streets, peeking through doors in hope of company for the evening. It is then we happen upon the Tianrui Teahouse, a most fragrant place. It is decorated in vibrant reds and golds, and even better yet it smells of the most delicious foods! So we walk inside, of course minding the sign and wiping our feet before we enter, and seat ourselves at the counter. We were served the most delicious dumplings, which when this one checked the menu were pork - not an important story detail but he highly recommends you try them if you ever visit! Now, we are enjoying our meal and rest when a small, white feathered creature wanders in. It has large, completely black eyes and a long beak, but also arms and legs like chicken's feet! This one is of course intrigued, and asks many questions which sadly go unanswered by the small creature. It instead grips the arm of the wood elf man sitting next to this one, and grips quite hard at that as the elf then upends his quite freshly brewed tea over the creature! It releases the elf, and hides in the corner, speaking some dark language that curdles this one's tail and twists his whiskers most sour. At this, a black knight with a single horn and a tail appears in the door! He speaks the same language, but this time the small creature curdles instead of we onlookers. The daring black knight corners the creature, the woman behind the counter and the wood elf expressing it would be unwise to spill blood on the family shrine or the instrument, but the knight insists that the demon must be smited! A demon? This one thinks - dark moons, he has never seen a demon in his travels before! It is good the black knight was here indeed. It was as he thinks this that the brave knight runs the creature through with some words in a tongue he does not know, and the demon is no more! And the shrine and instrument unspotted by blood too, no less. So was the night that we had dinner, and an unexpected show at the Tianrui Teahouse!

Afterword

For now, faithful reader, this one must leave you to again travel the lands in search of new stories to tell, larger crates to lift, and delicious dishes to sample! He hopes you hold this book dear, and that your own stories may have happy endings. Warm sands, my friends. Until next time we meet!

Kin would read over the story with a few nods of his head "Hai, I remember that" he then looked to his arm where the demon griped him and soon got lost in thought once more
