Rites to earn promotion

Over the two year span that one must spend as a recruit, they given several tasks by the Lord Commander of Balian so that they may prove themselves to be a brother or sister of the Company

To start off, the Lord Commander will task the new recruit to go out and find material which would be suitable for a weapon to be forged from. The weapon that the Recruit desires.
Their second task will be to train alongside an experienced member of the Company to further their knowledge in combat. A Senior Enlisted officer will be assigned to oversee.
The final task is to be a hunt, ever since arriving here to this new and hostile land, a member of the Company of Balian must go out and hunt a creature of the southern wastes and bring back its pelt before the Lord Commander

After all these tasks have been completed, during the usual address to the Company, the Lord Commander will call forth those who have completed the tasks set before them. Lining up side by side, they will have the pelt of whatever creature they sought and slayed draped over their shoulders. No longer called a simple recruit, but a Brother or Sister of the Company.

Sworn by the Brazier of the Fallen

In the path of flame there is a brazier at the end with signal fires to guide the way to it. The brazier and the flame inside it signifies the sacrifice of all soldiers and civilians, their willpower, hopes and dreams. The torches of fallen soldiers are thrown into the brazier so that the brazier and the fire would serve as a memorial for all.

In this light, those who achieve the rank of Private swear to never dishonor those who came before them, to uphold the legacy which they stand for. For now they carry the future of Balian on their shoulders.
