Honor and Duty

Derived from the Barrowton Guard, defenders of the March, protectors of Canondom,

guardians of the people. Their purpose true and bound, the Guard protects Numendil, the glorious white City of Numenost, and all its denizens. It is the driving force behind the fist of Tar Uriel and his Knights. Instructed and trained by experienced members of Uriel's personal Warband, The Guard of Numendil is praised for its discipline, faith, and unwavering courage. Those Guards who show skill and loyalty are often made Knights, upon showing interest, and passing the trials.

The Duties of the Guard and Knights

As written by Ser Garen Glennmaer, Captain of Numendil, every soldier is expected to take on the following duties:

Uphold the Peace.

Keep Safe the Gate.

Keep Safe the People.

Hunt the Darkspawn.

Slay the Beast.

Help Thy Comrade.

Serve Thy Liege-Lord.

Cleanse the land of all its Darkness.

These Soldiers are dedicated to keeping the borders of Numendil clear of danger, monsters and men alike.

Undertake tasks deligated by the Huntmaster
Patrol the wilds and woodlands of Numendi's borders
Rid the land of monsters and the Fey
Rid the land of Poachers and Wayward Banditry

Rations and Wages

To Serve Numendil does not come without thanks. Food, Bed, Board and Wages will be provided every saint’s week to each guard and knight. Exceptional performance warrants promotion, and further benefits. Guards may be heightened to the rank of Spear-Serjeant, and entitled to higher wages and command over lower ranks, though these promotions are optional and come with plenty more responsibility. Those include training lower ranks, and organizing their trappings and rations.

When a Guardsman shows promise, and agrees to the promotion, they may be made a Foot-Squire. They will be assigned to assisting the Knights as Infantry support, along-side the guard, though are often given additional tasks to prove their readiness in terms of the Code of Chivalry.

Should the Squire prove ready, they will be made into a Numendil Foot-Knight. The most Elite infantry of Numendil. They may wish to remain here, however, if they wish to advance further, they may do so by continuing ot prove their prowess and honor. Should this be the case, they will dubbed a Knight of the Tower, and provided with a Silver Numenedain War-Horse. It is these Knights, along with the Knights of the White Court, that follow the King into battle as his personal War-Host.

Knights are entitled to further pay, should they deem necessary.

The Road to Knighthood

For a Guardsman to Ascend to Knighthood, they must first prove himself as a Guardsman. After two Saint's Weeks of service as a full Guardsman, they may express interest to the Knight-Commander in becoming a Knight. Should the Commander deem them worthy, which should be the case if the Guardsman has performed as required, they will be promoted to Foot-Squire.

A Foot-Squire will take on the duties of Guardsman, but will also serve as support for Knights when Questing, at their request. They must also prove that they are capable in the following:

Weapon Use and Maintenance
Armor Use and Maintenace
Horse Care and Horse Riding
The Code of Chivalry
Etiquette
Knowledge of the Holy Scrolls / Rite of Owyn

Once this has been achieved, and three weeks of service under the Squire's belt at least, they will be promoted to Foot-Knight.

The Foot-Knight is the most elite of Infantry within the Guard of Numendil. Full plate harness, and superior weapon's training allows them to serve as the hammer of Numenost and GOD. Often, they make use of larger weapons, though still sometimes make use of shields, and provide a strong foundation for the rest of the Guardsmen to fall back upon, should their shield walls falter. A complementary system, in which the Guardsmen provide an unwavering wall, and the Foot-Knights provide the fist, so to speak.

After some more extended service as a Foot-Knight, those exemplars among them may be given a horse, and allowed to wear their own personal colors as a Knight of the Tower. This is where the Knight Commander no longer issues battle-orders, and instead, the Knight is to follow the King, as his personal lance, alongside the Knights of the White Court.

From Knight to Noble

It is not uncommon for the Canonist denizen to wish for more, to strive for Greatness.
Knighthood is the most Reliable path when one's Goal is to achieve Nobility in the eyes of GOD and their fellow man.

When a Knight attains the Position of a "Knight of the White Court", they are at a prime position to begin their ascent.

For it is the Code of Chivalry that Knights live by, and it is this code that Allows for Greatness, and Encourages the Betterment of the Self.

Like House O'Rourke, Seregon, Glennmaer, and Arthalionath; Greatness can be achieved through Determination and Loyalty.

Trappings and Ranks

The Guards of Barrowton were often dressed in chain and cloth, along with small amounts of plate. Whilst the March had excellent smiths from Urguan and Canondom alike, the use of Plate was not common, as the plains of the March were muddy and slippery. Excess wait and a looser foot grip can spell one’s doom when facing hordes of undead. Nowadays, in far better climate and conditions, the Guard of Numendil sport heavier armor, specifically those soldiers who have shown enough to warrant promotion to a proper Guard, rather than a recruit. The Sword, Spear and Mace are favorites due to their reliability, along with the Heater or Kite shield, however weaponry is open to the preference of the guard in question. For the sake of proper formations, a Spear, Shield and Side-Sword are mandatory.

The Rangers and Confessors, whilst having different responsibilities, are expected to serve as Regular guards when not given specific tasks. This includes wearing the uniform whilst on duty. These Uniforms are shown below.
