Werew0lf 24181 Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2024 Never walk away from home ahead of your axe and sword. Always rise to an early meal but eat your fill before a feast. Heill þik, I hope that you have been fair in health, completeness, and live long, die fighting, and make way to the great halls of Valhalla impeded by the draugr-spawn. Although the dreaded tongue-dance is hated by my kindred, this letter serves an important purpose. Upon the night of winter’s wrath, our kin were sent a letter by a fellow comrade. He stated thus, ‘Harken, the venom Jormunharr seats himself within the tavern of Norland, making merry with their people!’ and to this, we said, it could not be so. So, I brought with me Haraldr and Calias, and we rode into the the city of Vjardengrad, the capital of the beautiful kingdom. When we arrived within the tavern, we came across the draugr, sitting around an audience of norlanders. We instantly killed the evilspawn, much to the displeasement of many, including one of your folk-kin, who goes by the name of Io. He told unto us that this was an honourable holmgang. A holmgang is not a contest of drink, but a battle of blood and steel, death to those who were not strong enough to surpass their limits. What foul mockery do your people make of our beloved culture? We cut the hand of a dark-elf, who fraternised with the accursed evilspawn, and to this, your man, Io, called us dishonourable, and damned our name under Thegn-Konan. Let us know if this will be our name now amongst your kin, who seek to befriend the darkspawn, and befoul the Sólgaardian. I also challenge this Io to a holmgang, a battle to the death, for speaking ill of my people, and my Thegn-Konan. Answer this call and challenge to combat, cowardly cur flitting your tail behind your legs. This response I give you a years time to respond. If you will not fight to the death, I do not seek your audience, for you will never make it to the halls of Valhalla. Við sjáumst seinna. Orlanth 4667 Share Posted April 5, 2024 Calias had someone write down the incident in documentation for himself, and made sure the knowledge of this was kept close at hand for the future. "Absolutely disgraceful. How far the 'humanity' of the north has strayed..."
Nimbus_Strike 271 Share Posted April 5, 2024 (edited) "Humanity? The High Keeper literally got the Draugr to leave last time by a battle of words. And for that matter, Norland is not a valah city. It's a city with valah and mali alike." Ariane shook her head. "Let them write their slander. It'll be sorted out." Xein000 264 Share Posted April 5, 2024 Reads the letter and sign. "What says that an holmgang must be to the death? The Flyting I was at was epic and there was ne death that day. They should read my book about it, might show them how epic things can be without shedding a single drop of blood for ne reason." She said and sign and stores it away.
PanicZealot 648 Share Posted April 5, 2024 The Half-Elven Captain shook his head. "Conan's men really do bring dishonor to his name." The captain remarked having read the letter, "Funny that you fail to mention you cut OFF the hand of an innocent Dark-Elf and disrespected our terms of the Holmgang."

Pancho 4197 Share Posted April 5, 2024 Cerrick Fenifaer read the missive, perking a brow in surprise. "I'm glad to see that there are some dispensing proper justice." He silently wished that others could take their example instead of basely following others.
Operator_Bugman 347 Share Posted April 5, 2024 An engineer stared at the letter in the biting cold as he continued working on some machine or other. He then promptly punched one of the many levers in frustration as yet more problems arose every time he left.
_Elrith_ 4525 Share Posted April 5, 2024 "What unfortunate timing." The High Keeper mused over the letter, just after finishing a letter of her own. "I'm sure this is to be awkward."
Celestial_Bleh 224 Share Posted April 5, 2024 Corann Daevear lay in bed, alternating between staring at the ceiling and observing his now-much-shorter-arm. The missive was yet unknown to him but often his thoughts turned to those who took his hand. They grew darker with each passing day. Spoiler He technically "won" the contest so all y'all lost your bets :D
