[✗] [Voidal Connection] Spell Point Amendment

@ScreamingDingoI’m influencing the voters.

Casting-cost systems ARE BAD!!! Either allow functionally unlimited casting or say, “this spell may only be cast X times per encounter.” The magics that still have cost systems survive despite their complexity, not because of it.

During one Apotheosis event I tracked the casting-costs of my entire party. I did not tell the players as I did not want to pressure them, nor did I want to assume their responsibilities for them. Honor CRP (and events) are only as good as the players in them, and harping on whether or not my players were allowed to cast more spells would never have helped them enjoy the event more.

When all was said and done I found that despite having very experienced players, only a few participants correctly tracked their casting-costs. Instead I believe majority  guesstimated. This is because calculating casting costs is an inconvenience that most players cannot be bothered with. It slows down combat and creates unneeded boundaries that inhibit the flow of roleplay.

Even in the relatively “simple” lore involved in this event, players clearly did not bother memorizing the casting-costs of all their spells, and I think that’s alright. Doing math on the side sucks, and should only be reserved for masochistic ET. Introducing this sort of rigid casting-cost to voidal magic, where players can have almost two-dozen spells at their disposal in any given encounter, is a bad idea as it places an unrealistic expectation on players.

Honestly- I dont like it not even becouse of the complexity, but mainly due to how limiting it would be for mages during events etc.

Their emote count is already high to do anything, meaning a lot of rounds of nothing, and they may be disconected pretty easyly without people keeping in mind to protect them. Adding in limitations to how much they can cast ((Especially with it being so low as to allow two major spells per event)) just kinda sucks for them. As they become useless right after they are out of spell points, seeing they strengh and armor bane- I would advice against making it so they can do less stuff over all, and just let them do their thing.

Honestly I feel like this proposed amendment would just overly complicate the spell casting process. Like, decimal points? Is anyone really going to take the time to calculate that in the midst of RP?

And who would enforce this system? I doubt self enforcement would really be a reliable mechanism, and the LT can't realistically be expected to micromanage these calculations. It would require too much arbitration and attention on their part. A good magic should require as little LT intervention as possible.

Furthermore, how would artificers, eminence mages, and scions be accounted for? And what about non-voidal magics, why shouldn't they be accounted for similarly? Why is it so important that voidal magic be held to a different standard from other MAs / FAs, or even physical CRP?

I've legitimately never seen any massively widespread problem with mages failing to RP exhaustion when appropriate and I feel this proposed amendment would create a lot more problems than it would claim to solve. We don't strictly police how many swings that say, an armored knight can make with his sword before becoming exhausted, so I don't see why mages should be any different. As someone else mentioned above, it could be a slippery slope if we're not careful.

I think it would be best not to overcomplicate things when the problem in question is a miniscule one at best. The current guidelines should be kept in line with martial CRP rules and remain relatively simple to understand, lest RPing voidal magic become a headache.
