Mage Hand - T3 - Non Combative

A basic utility spell in the arsenal of housemagery, a housemage can manipulate their mana to shroud an item and shift and reorganize objects within their home. This allows the mage to perform actions such as snagging books on a high shelf just out of reach, to shuffling furniture that they might not have the core strength to do alone. When used, the color of the caster's aura shimmers around the object like a veil or outline to demonstrate the spell is active. This spell is a popular one amongst scholars who use it to levitate several books around their person, flipping through various pages at once.

This spell fizzles and fails when attempted to be used combatively, requiring finer focus than what is available while within the throes of a fight. Sharp objects are unable to be directed to another individual unless they possess a blunt end such as a knife and its handle, where the handle end would be what faces the desired recipient.

T3 -

  • A house mage may actively manipulate up to three objects at once.
  • The total combined weight of the objects cannot exceed 15 lbs.
  • The range of the spell spans 5 blocks in any direction.
  • Requires two emotes of connection, and may be channeled up to 5 emotes.

T4 -

  • A house mage may actively manipulate up to four objects at once.
  • The total combined weight of the objects cannot exceed 20 lbs.
  • The range of the spell spans 10 blocks in any direction.
  • Requires two emotes of connection, and may be channeled up to 6 emotes.

T5 -

  • A house mage may actively manipulate up to five objects at once.
  • The total combined weight of the objects cannot exceed 25 lbs.
  • The range of the spell spans 15 blocks in any direction.
  • Requires one emote of connection and may be channeled up to 6 emotes.

Redlines:

Spoiler
  • Mage Hand when used must have a telegraphed tell indicating the spell is active.
  • Mage Hand cannot be used to injure others. Even when sending at full force (about the speed of a paper airplane), an object will slow to a halt 1 foot before an intended (living) target.
  • Cannot manipulate fine materials such as sand, dirt, or gravel, and cannot directly handle liquids.
  • All manipulated objects cease when the mage leaves the premises, falling to the ground if not put down by the mage.
  • When interrupted by anti-magic mechanics or otherwise, manipulated objects will fall to the floor.
  • Mage Hand will cancel and the object will fall with any interaction outside of the mage themselves.
  • A person cannot be manipulated with Mage Hand, nor can an animal.
  • Mage Hand cannot be used to forcibly remove an object from another, it can only take what is willingly given or offered.
  • Mage Hand can be used to manipulate unseen objects, but the mage must know exactly where they are at a given time.
  • Cannot be used in combat.

Reasoning:
Housemagery possesses spells that do almost, but not quite the functions of a traditional mage-hand like spell. With spells like Home Defense and Living Tools it feels like it is a spell that should be in the base housemage's repertoire, yet there is no spell that explicitly allows for them to freely move objects. I am aware this spell somewhat exists to a degree in Transfiguration but is not the exact same- I attempted to balance with the idea that it should not be stronger than that in transfiguration and should have more limitations. I'd also like to note that this is an ability that most assume to be in housemagery, but is not.
