The creation process of a Tome of Knowledge is no easy feat, as it requires intense preparations and a sufficient amount of mages to be present during the procedure. For the creation a minimum of five mages, each of them being true masters of their art [Tier 5] they wish to transcribe, need to get together, each of them providing one part of the tome, which they wish to craft. One mage needs to bring forth the hide or leather for the cover, another one needs to bring the paper for the pages, while another one needs to provide the needle and thread to tie the book together. The fourth mage needs to provide a fountain pen, while the last mage will provide a flask of ink.

Upon providing all of those materials the mages are required to connect to their source of power, may it be the Void, their deity and so on, as to draw forth their energy. Now, while connected they are to craft the very book, allowing their energy to flow into their provided materials while doing so. During this process they will also collaborate on the very contents of the tome, writing down their extensive knowledge and wisdom about the arts they practice and wish to teach. By doing such their amassed knowledge is transferred into the tome, while sufficient energy is imbued into the tome as well. This process requires a minimum of fifteen emotes in total, three emotes for each mage attending the creation process [Connection -> Infusion -> Crafting].

After finishing their craft the five mages will need to sign their names into the very first page of the tome, which seemingly transcribes a part of their soul-blueprint into the very book, weakening their bodies and their connection to their source of power for one saint’s week [1 OOC-Week], making it impossible for them to cast any active spells. The signatures need to be roleplayed out as well and each participating mage needs to do a minimum of one emote for this step.

As the creators are now, indirectly, bound to the tome they are no longer capable of crafting another tome, until the current one has been destroyed. If they would try to attempt such a feat before the old tome has been destroyed they will experience a disastrous failure, as the energy would simply explode outwards, destroying the materials gathered to craft a tome and weakening their connection to their source of power for one saint’s day [1 OOC-Day].

If another Tome is attempted to be created for the same type of magic, the already existing Tome, with a mind of its own, will retaliate, no matter how much distance exists between the two Tomes, destroying the new Tome before it can come into existence, akin to the reaction when someone tries to sell a Tome (see -> Rite of Binding).

Spoiler

လ The creation process needs to be done under Story-Team-supervision.

လ Any and all Tomes of Knowledge need to be signed by the Story-Team.

လ All Tomes of Knowledge are required to be hand-held items [preferably a book or something of the like].

လ To craft a tome five mages with approved TAs of the same form of magic are required to attend the creation process.

လ When a TA of any magic is approved, the teacher will automatically gain knowledge of how to create a Tome of Knowledge.

လ A minimum amount of  emotes need to be roleplayed out to create a Tome of Knowledge.

လ Each attending mage needs to emote a minimum of four times, three times to actually craft and infuse the tome and one time to sign the tome.

လ Each attending mage may only create one tome. They may not create a second one until their previously created one has been destroyed or lost.

လ In case of an attempted creation, while one of the mages soul-blueprints is still connected to any previously created tomes, the creation process will backfire, destroying any of the gathered materials, while also preventing the attending mages to cast for one OOC-day.

လ Only 1 Tome may exist for each type of magic at a time on the entire server. If a magic is under the same umbrella but has separate magic slots that must be dedicated to them, different Tomes may exist for every subtype (e.g. Each type of Voidal Evocation can have their own Tome, 1 Tome can exist for Druidic Communion and Shapeshifting separately, etc). If a ritual takes place for an already existing Tome, the Tome will explode before the ritual is complete (see -> Rite of Binding). This is to prevent Tomes replacing teachers entirely.

လ Seer, as a magic may not have Tomes, due to the Seer’s oath of secrecy as well as the already self-teaching nature of the magic.

“A tome of mystery; it’s cover being of silver color, it’s pages yellow as a sign of father time.”

The very appearance of the Tomes of Knowledge relies on the initial creation ritual, which needs to be performed to create such a unique artifact, yet, all of them follow a few basic guidelines in regards to appearance; Each and every of the tomes, with the exception of the one containing knowledge about Kani, is five by seven inches big and contains yellowed and stained pages. However, this is where the similarities of each tome ends, as the actual and differentiating appearance is based upon the very magical knowledge the tome contains, similarly on how Arcanium functions;

✶ Voidal ✶

✶ Voidal - Evocation ✶

Spoiler

The book's cover seems to be made out of the respective element. If it contains knowledge about fire evocation the cover seems to be made out of molten stone and the pages within appear to be singed by fire around the edges. In regards to water evocation the cover is seemingly made out of ice and the pages within appear to be wet, the ink slightly smeared, but still readable. In case of earth evocation the whole cover seems to be made out of two stone slaps, while the pages seem to hold a similar texture as to stone, being hard and rough to the touch. If the book contains knowledge about air evocation the cover seems not any different, yet, upon actually opening the book the pages would seemingly move around, as if a gentle breeze was blowing over them.

✶ Voidal - Conjuration ✶

Spoiler

Upon the creation of a Tome of Knowledge containing the knowledge about Conjuration it’s appearance would change drastically. The book cover would be made out of fur, while an eye seemingly grew on top of the cover as well, always staring at its bound owner.

✶ Voidal - Translocation ✶

Spoiler

The Tome of Knowledge, which contains the knowledge of Translocation, appears normal at first glance, yet, upon opening the pages within would seemingly shift in and out of existence.

✶ Voidal - Sensory Illusion ✶

Spoiler

Upon opening this Tome of Knowledge one would hear the faint whispers of a loved one coming from the very book they hold, while the pages would seemingly change their colors and textures from time to time.

✶ Voidal - Transfiguration ✶

Spoiler

The very book would have a soft glow to it, as if it was dunked into a luminosity potion. However, if opened the pages would have an ethereal look to them, being see-through from time to time.

⏣⃘⏣ Deity ⏣⃘⏣

⏣⃘⏣ Deity - Druidism ⏣⃘⏣

Spoiler

If a group of druids create their Tome of Knowledge, the tome itself would take on the appearance of  a miniature garden, its cover being held together by thin vines and roots, while the pages take on the shape and form of large leafs.

⏣⃘⏣ Deity - Templarism ⏣⃘⏣

Spoiler

The tome filled with the knowledge of Templarism appears holy in it’s very looks. The cover takes on a golden color, while it glows with a warm, golden, light. If one were to touch the book they would feel a gentle, comforting warmth emitting from it.

⏣⃘⏣ Deity - Shamanism ⏣⃘⏣

Spoiler

Upon creating a Tome filled with the knowledge of Shamanism the tome would take on a rather unique appearance, as its cover would still appear the same, yet, the very pages would display the person's ancestors as drawings, each of them being a step-by-step instruction of their rituals and rites.

⏣⃘⏣ Deity - Heraldry ⏣⃘⏣

Spoiler

If a tome, containing the knowledge and wisdom of Heraldry, gets created the cover made out of leather would seemingly change textures, turning into a cover made out of scales, while a bookmark would seemingly grow out of the cover itself, resembling the small tail of a lizard or dragon.

☖ Dark Magic ☖

☖ Dark - Blood Magic ☖

Spoiler

Tomes of Blood Magic are rather peculiar in their appearances, as they do not seem to change a lot in their base appearance. However, if one would inspect the pages of the tome, they would quickly notice that the ink has seemingly changed into dried blood.

☖ Dark - Necromancy ☖

Spoiler

The cover of this tome is seemingly a patchwork of different pieces of dried skin and flesh, while a clasp can be found at the side of the tome, keeping it shut. Said clasp is, however, the hand of a corpse, which holds the book closed at most times.

☖ Dark - Naztherak ☖

Spoiler

The Tome of Naztheraks knowledge seems to scream with the very voices of those the mage has harvested soul-essence from in recent times. Besides such the appearance seemingly changes all the time, always resembling the appearance of the Grimoire which the mage may create during their studies.

☖ Dark - Mysticism ☖

Spoiler

If a Tome of Mysticism is created its very form would change to that of a ghostly appearance, being translucent, while releasing a cold and wet fog upon being opened. Said fog would disperse and vanish within mere moments of being created by the tome.

☵ Misc. Magic ☵

☵ Misc. - Bardmancy ☵

Spoiler

Upon opening the tome of Bardmancy one might hear the tune of instruments playing, while splotches of paint and ink would seemingly move all over the pages, often stopping for mere moments to form abstract shapes and forms.

☵ Misc. - Kani ☵

Spoiler

This tome has one of the most unique appearances, as its shape changes completely. The initial book used for the creation process seems to shred itself into a million tiny pieces, just to assemble itself into a scroll, it’s lining showing a red coloration. If unscrolled one would find pictures displaying the arts of Kani and their respective explanations.

☵ Misc. - Housemagery ☵

Spoiler

Housemagery is always useful, so is this tome. Barely changing in appearance, this tome seemingly grows a set of pockets and holders on its outer cover, which can be used to carry around cutlery and cooking utensils.

≣ Redlines ≣

Spoiler

လ Any and all appearances of the tome are decorative and of aesthetic nature.

လ None of the tomes can be used as a light- or heat-source.

လ The Tomes of Knowledge can be destroyed like any other tome, as they are simply books infused by magical energy. As such ripping them apart, burning them, stabbing them, etc. are all valid means of destroying the tomes.

လ In case of a tomes destruction the Story-Team is to be informed immediately be the person, which destroyed the tome.

Obtaining a Tome of Knowledge isn’t an easy feat, as the tome, seemingly, has a mind of its own. If one of the original creators or the person currently in possession of the tome would try to sell it, the tome would fight against its owner’s greed, seemingly shredding itself into a million pieces, just for the infused energy to explode outwards in a 3 m³ area [3x3x3 Blocks], throwing any person within that area backwards by at least 5 meters [5 blocks]. As such one needs to obtain a Tome either by being given it willingly by their creators or by whoever is currently in possession of it. This explosion is akin to the reaction a Tome will suffer should a Tome be attempted to be created for a magic that already has a Tome.

After obtaining the Tome of Knowledge the new possessor will need to undergo the Rite of Binding, a  ritual which connects themselves and their soul to the very Tome they wish to learn from. To undergo the Rite of Binding a person needs to fulfill a certain set of criterias. Firstly they can not bind themselves to a tome, which contains the energy of a specific form of magic if they already know a form of magic or are a creature / creation, which would usually be unable to learn the magic (Example; Necromancer learning Templarism). Secondly the person in question needs to have enough capabilities of learning the magic, may it be in the form of age or knowledge (Sufficient empty slots to learn the magic). Lastly each student may only be bound to one Tome as a time, as a second tether would be destroyed in an instant by the already established one. If those base conditions are met the individual in possession of the tome may undergo the Rite.

To bind oneself to the Tome the new possessor needs to sign their name onto the first page of the book, right below the signatures of the creators and previous owners. If the previous possessor didn’t finish their studies with the Tome the Rite will not take place. In case that the previous owner did finish their studies the signature of the new owner would start to shimmer in all the colors of the rainbow as their very soul gets tethered to the Tome. When a successful tether has been established the new owner would feel a constant flow of energy coming from the Tome, connecting the newly found mage to the power source required to use the magic being taught, acting as a connection ritual. Said tether can be seen by those capable of seeing the Veil, enchantments or those of similar capabilities, resembling a constant stream of white energy, which flows from the Tome to it’s student.

Due to the inert nature of the established tether the Tome of Knowledge can not be removed from their new owner, as whenever the Tome would be taken away, forgotten somewhere or any other means of losing the tome, it would seemingly vanish from it’s current position and reappear within the hands, pockets or bag of the mage themself. Besides such curious behavior the possessor is also bound to the Tome until their studies are complete, making it impossible for them to forget their magic or stopping them to learn said magic (Dropping the magic).

After the new possessor has finished all of their required studies and has mastered the form of magic taught by the Tome the tether would seemingly break apart, allowing the Tome to be handed to the next student and as such allowing the cycle to be repeated with the next person.

≣ Redlines ≣

Spoiler

လ In case of any connection rituals; If the person isn’t already connected to the energy source of their magic OR if a specific connection ritual is required at the beginning, middle or end of the students studies to reach T5 in the magic, the Tome carries out said connection ritual.

လ Only one student may learn from a Tome at a time. They may not switch between tomes or learn from multiple ones, as the first established tether would destroy any newly-forming ones.

လ Due to the tether a student may not drop the magic they are learning from the Tome until they have reached T5 and are no longer tethered to the Tome. If the Tome gets destroyed while the mage is tethered to it, they will instead lose the magic slots which were tied to the Tome and the magic they wished to learn. However, it is NOT Common knowledge that destroying a Tome will untether the student it is bound to, and thus intentionally targeting a Tome to unbind someone would be considered metagaming and should be punished as such. For example, it is NOT reasonable for a bandit to steal a Tome from a student they attack and tear it apart, as they would have no knowledge that the book is special in any way save for its appearance, but it may be reasonable for a guard to destroy a Naztherak Tome upon finding one and discovering what it is through adequate roleplay.

လ Destroying of Tomes must be done under ST supervision.

လ Slots lost in this way cannot be regained and are lost forever.

လ Upon reaching T5 and learning all spells in any magic learnt from a Tome the tether will automatically vanish, unbinding the Tome from its current possessor.

လ If the Tome is stolen, taken or otherwise lost it will return magically to it’s current possessor. This also takes place after the tether has been lost until the Tome is being given to the next student by its current owner. It is recommended to soulbind the Tome as such.

လ In case of accidentally dropping the Tome it is to be returned to it’s current holder by any person finding it.

လ The Tome must always stay within the inventory of the student and may not be placed into any chests or other containers.

လ Binding rituals must be supervised by ST and a screenshot of the item should be provided on the MA.

As not everyone likes to scroll from the very top of a page down to the redlines or vice versa we have decided to post the redlines of each section within the section AND consolidate all of the redlines in this section as well. We also wanted to add a clarification in regards to currently existing self-teaching books into the redlines.

≣ Redlines - Clarifications ≣

လ Self-teaching books, which were created before the implementation of this lore, are still valid and can be used as before. This lore only adds onto the pre-existing system and expands on the topic of self-teaching.

I have noticed a small, RP-wise flaw in learning many forms of magic - the fact that a teacher is required, no matter what. While this is good in the sense that it encourages RP interaction and actually learning the magic in question, it also limits the ability to learn any form of magic without a teacher - what if you want to study a specific form of magic without the need of a teacher? What if you want to study something in secrecy? Why do we always need a teacher when our character already has extended knowledge on a form of magic (Example; Fire Evocationist wanting to learn Water Evocation)?

However, these are very specific cases and providing even more self-teaching books for the public to use at their discretion would essentially nullify the need for any teachers and roleplay at all. This invention aims to give a very confined form of self-teaching to all magical types - a rare alternative to having a teacher, which I hope will be able to make for interesting RP, while also reworking the old concept of self-teaching books.

This writeup is by no means set in stone and we are open to change and modify depending on feedback.

I don't think this is really a good idea in any aspect

Bardmancy and Housemagery already function on a Tutor System - anyone T5 can teach up to 5 students, no TA required.

Every other magic either shouldnt be more easily spread (Voidals), or is so intrinsically tied to a force or Deity or Plane this just feels like it ignores all that for convivences sake

There is to much here that just doesn't work with the magics stated that I'm just flat stating No on this my friend. I get the point, but you are grasping on magics that have a wide range of differences of vetting students, gaining the magics, how the connection works, etc. This just wouldn't work.

I see the idea but as the goat lore team member said every magic has a different way of working. Most of these magics have a complex ritual involved. For example, mystics need to have a separate mystic stab them fatally and 'stitch' the wound closed with a soul.

This lore has been denied. You will be sent a forum PM regarding the reasons for denial within the next 24 hours.

One of the biggest flaws of self teaching is that you are truly unable to ask questions and actually have that double checking and accountability with lore.

This aims to circumvent it and force self teaching with minimal guidance and allows for deific interactions to be connected with a book. Lore basis for this is fundamentally incorrect and the team itself will not consider retroactive self teaching inserted into every lore
