A PRAYER UNTO THE LAND

Amen.

TO THE PEOPLE OF AAUN,

We, Princess Cecily and Prince Edward, have called upon your presence at Falcon’s Rest to usher in a new century—a new age for Aaun—and you answered that call. In doing so, you have rekindled a passion that had dimmed over the past decade, a flame now burning brighter than ever, as radiant as the morning sun. The light of His Holiness has sustained life in these lands, yet we must ask ourselves: What cause do we have in rising each day, if not to leave our mark upon the realm? What do we strive for? What do we fight for? It is not the faint candlelight we seek, whose flicker is easily extinguished by the whisper of the wind. Instead, we search for the steadfast light of the Sun, whose burning rays guide the day.

The reign of Charles II was but a short time ago, yet the vigor of a people committed to action has been lost for far longer. How long has it been since our people gathered in a single hall, not only to break bread, but to discuss the pressing matters of state and the welfare of those we have sworn to steward? And now the question arises: How much longer must we wait for our slumbering neighbors to stir once more?

A flame burns in our hands now, one that grows ever hotter. We write to you not merely to invite your pedigree, but to beseech your presence, for it is a duty to the nation that rests heavy upon our shoulders.

We raise the torch that once crowned the Hand of Horen. Like the soaring walls that held it high, we lift it up and call upon the peers of Aaun to behold its light–and let it serve as the beacon that guides the way.

We, in the spirit of progress, do hereby beseech every burning heart in Our Realm to join Us at the Diet of the Year 2003 in the honored halls of Venic’s burgh chambers, granted to Us by the grace and generosity of Mother Valerie Auclair, We shall convene this gathering as a place where all voices may be heard.

Know that this Diet is a stage upon which all may stand, where commoners and lords shall hold the right to speak truthfully. We endeavor to strengthen the Kingdom of Aaun through Our deeds and the collective wisdom, insight, and fervor of the people. Thus, do not hesitate to bring forth what burdens or inspires you. From matters of justice and prosperity to the welfare of land and kin, all shall be given its due ear so that we may guide its future together.

PROCEEDINGS,

We, Princess Cecily and Prince Edward, upon the opening of this Diet’s first session, do outline these matters to be discussed and moderated by acting speaker, Joseph Frederick von Preussens. Each matter will be prescribed an unlimited amount of time for discussion until motioned by a member of the convening Diet to adjourn the matter with a majority “Aye” consensus. The words of the proceeding will be recorded by acting scribe, Lord Malcolm d’Arkent — unless stricken from the record by the speaker.

The House of Alstion presents these matters to be weighed upon with prepared speech by those joining us upon the Diet of 2003:

I. ON DISPLACED ENTITIES and PEOPLES
a. This body motions to discuss the stance and response of past and incumbent displaced bodies.

II. ON LAND PRESERVATION and GRANTS
a. This body motions to discuss the beautification of Aaunic lands and vassal estates.

III. ON ONE MUNICIPALITY
a. This body motions to discuss a new unified municipality.

IV. ON GOVERNING BODIES
a. This body motions to discuss a governing body for legislative processes.

We hope to convey the sentiments of this Diet unto our most diligent and beloved regent, the High Pontiff, that thereby we may incline ourselves towards the restoration of our realm.

George Charles Aldersberg straightened his doublet, his gaze filled with anticipation as he read over the proceedings. “This Diet meeting will be important,” he muttered to himself, his voice steady. “With so many pressing matters to discuss, every word will count. It’s our chance to shape the kingdom’s future.”

Goran tries reading the missive, but it was so suddenly taken from him. It was nowhere to be found. Was it those cursed v*rtigaunts the Wickfolk were warned about before settling Wicfeld? Goran rushed to the closest aviary to write the Pontiff about this.

The aforementioned Joseph Preussens sifted through his notes and files with a measured hand, his brow furrowed in deep thought as he readied himself for the coming royal diet. His pale, dull eyes scrutinized each document, ensuring that all was in order before the gathering of nobles and common folk alike.

Calaron roamed through the woods where quasi-material aliens scribbled sigils often in the imagery of eyes around the hill.

"Damn v*rtigaunts."

Hearing news of the diet by way of his brother, he awaited the normalcy.

The Lady of Alba, Cecily, poised a quill over a spiraled notebook. With extensive consideration did she commit to paper a plethora of ideas — ideas that she had already heard from peers and Aaunishmen alike from conversations with Edward and herself. The young woman, inspired by their visions, looked forward to the Diet that loomed ahead.

Vincenzo Varoche reviewed the document with keen interest. The House of Varoche had faced troubling times since the excommunication of his Grandfather and the eviction of his kin from their homeland. There was surely something to be said by the young Varoche, but what would his word amount to? The ride from Blackworth would give him enough time to conjure a statement that would be heard by the royals and the rest of the diet.

Malcolm d'Arkent, the aforementioned scribe cautiously and excitedly prepared his quills, ink, and paper for the Aaunic Diet. "Ea will make sure they don't regret choosing me!" He thought to himself as he was careful not to knock any of his ink bottles onto his carpet.
