I miss nodes, but there was always a ooc issue with them that always had been a genuine pain in the rear for both player and st.

Considering the fact people Alted to find times, Doxx their locations, Intentionally destroyed them to control the prices/ 'only i should get em'. Or just became Lurkspots for bandit groups or Nations. I still remember being told when Nodes were reintruduced that 2 realms fought eachover over  Kulia back when it was a st material.

Nodes were good in the sense that it could be gained by anyone without a bias  or X nation only gaining the oppertunity to get them. But they were used so much in bad faith and not to mention, the hoarding from Almaris -> Aevos was a big problem too. But shelfing them had also for few also gained that hoarding mentality. Even to the point BM hailing doesnt spawn em in either. Regardless. If they are brought back. They should be treated like events or have a countermeasure for 3rd party interfearance. But for the alt/meta/ waiting for 23 hours. Idk. Thats mainly players purpose and it was put in heavy bad faith for the entirety of last map. Then again this is coming from someone whos yet to encounter these mystical ore events so. dunno. I wanna see em back in some reguard.

They need to be back but more moderated and punish the people abusing the system. Unfortunately, I do not have as much time as before to stay up late and do an event that might or might not give me material. Events are and should not just be made to receive a material reward. However, I still wish there was a more comfortable route for people to get items without needing to spend 7k minas, be part of some private group/force to friend them, or partake in a hard-pk event.

Hi, someone who abused the previous system here. The node system was poor because of the lack of regulation. Groups were easily able to subdivide the work to put individual groups on CD instead of the ST putting themselves on CD. Example being that I would go with a friend under the Elvenesse group and then my friends would come back if I was still on CD and the node wasn't as Haense, putting two separate "groups" on CD despite the ST knowing we were in the same node mining clique. Battle nodes genuinely helped that, but nowadays there are rarely one off encounters that spawn ST materials and instead try to get players into a long eventline for loot. It isn't a bad thing, but it also discourages the average player from getting ST materials if they are with rather greedy individuals. I just think their needed to be more oversight to the system and it could be better.

Didnt play when nodes were active, but I think it could be a good decision to bring them back. Although I heard the horror stories of people camping the nodes, so I cannot have a full opinion. I say bring them back, but change them.

One idea I had that may or may not be good is having separate cooldowns for the nodes. Maybe it's cooldown is a week or whatever, but once a player harvests it, that specific player can't harvest it for another month or two. Keeps things more moderated and gives players the chance to get materials without them being hogged by the same 5 people.

People fantasize about nodes being a thing they can wander by every so often, say "oh wow, the boomsteel mine is open," & get an event where they acquire some free boomsteel. 

 

In reality, people wearing bandanas log on & log off to camp a designated STORY TEAM RARE METAL location. Bad faithers quickly monopolize these locations. Jannies get tired of bad faithers wasting their time. Nodes discourage authentic roleplay & there isn't really a good way to make them work.

Having do do a storyline for 5 events at times that require a group of around 7 people to coordinate times for weeks for two chunks of lunarite just doesn't work for LOTCers that have jobs and lives. I agree with you that it is susceptible to bad faith, but there is a way to discourage that bad faith through enforcement.

these materials are supposed to be rare yes but not impossible to get like they are now, I don't think I've seen one event that I could join and get lunarite, I think either more st events should happen where people can get their hands on rare materials or, nodes come back but under stricter regulations and/or have a better plugin for it.

the system was (if i miss any details they’ll come to me) 

 

roughly 2 of each material had a node, each had an individual cooldown. groups for players subjectively decided by st (someone may have 4 characters, but we just count them and everyone associated with their main by association) had cool downs 2-3x as long on top of that. we stopped replacing nodes intentionally destroyed to force a cd reset or to encourage a monopoly. 

 

despite the increasing restrictions, subjectivity, and attempt to get more players doing things, we still had the same few groups just recycling nodes over and over, then hoarding them and either doing shitty ooc black market trading or clout farming collections. 

 

this system sucked and was truly the best we could’ve worked. even with a plug-in, there’s so many ways to get around a system remotely like this. we did have a plug-in for individual cooldowns with very long resets so everyone could get one, but this lead to people farming eachother by having five friends mine it for them so they can just stack it further. 

 

not to mention the sweats of spam searching region nodes, st exhaustion spamming reqs, world downloading to x-ray, and staff tping to spam check nodes. it’s rediculous. They don’t add to roleplay and didn’t encourage anyone but a select handful of groups to be morons about items with one paragraph of /edit. 

 

Nodes aren’t coming back in any capacity whatsoever. Event distribution is and has been the best way to do it, since players who participate, are active, and quality roleplayers, are rewarded instead of an smp-lite capture the flag every few weeks with stupid spreadsheets and delusion trying to collect pixels people would rather sit on and make epic 40 paragraph soulbound lunarite swords than making something more meaningful. 

 

just my thoughts and dispelling misinformation that the system was flawed without effort or there is a better way for nodes, when there strictly isn’t

This makes sense. I'm glad the mineral nodes aren't present anymore.
