The Karoslund was not built by conquest or decree, but by hands calloused from hardship and hearts that refused to break. It is a place where the Haeseni spirit endures; where the old songs are sung anew and the banners of ancient houses still fly. Within these woods, the Haeseni carve out their place again – not as exiles, but as stewards of a new homeland, bound by faith and shared kinship. 

Here, the past does not define a man – only his intent for the future. Whether you’re a soldier seeking a new path after battle, or a common wanderer bearing nothing but the clothes upon his back, all are welcomed.

 

 

FOLLOWING THE SURRENDER OF Hanseti-Ruska, a sorrowful yet necessary act to preserve what lives remained, Nadya of House Barbanov-Bihar led her people northward. The fires of war had scarred their homeland, and the cost of defiance had grown too steep. What could not be saved in the midlands would be rebuilt in the north.

 

Guided by duty and a dream older than herself, the matriarch brought the Haeseni settlers to the pinewoods that they would call home. Here, amidst the frost of winter, the refugees laid claim not to a kingdom, but to a chance – a chance at peace, at rebirth, and at preservation. And thus, the Karoslund was born – its name drawn from the New Marian tongue, meaning "honored land" or "land of crows."

 

The Karoslund stands today as a living memory and quiet defiance – of a people who would not be erased, who carried their culture, their faith, and their kin through smoke and snow alike to begin again.

 

 

THOUGH UNITED UNDER ONE VILLAGE, the Karoslund is shaped by the colorful and unique traditions of the Haeseni people, with each subculture bringing its own individual spirit to the settlement.

 

❖ㅤLOW MARIAN

Hardy and humble, the Low Marians are known for their deep connection to the land. Renowned for their agricultural pursuits, cow-farming, and skilled leather-working, they provide the backbone of the Karoslund’s food and trade. The Koravians are a subsect standing proudly among them, preserving a tradition of quiet strength and tireless labor.

 

❖ㅤSOUTHERN MARIAN

Sharp-witted and shrewd, the Southern Marians bring an enterprising spirit to the Karoslund. Masters of business, merchantry, and the trades, their legacy of seafaring also echoes in their adaptability and boldness. Where others see hardship, the Southern Marians see opportunity–and they often build prosperity where none was thought possible.

 

❖ㅤRAEVIR

Passionate and proud, the Raevir are the heart of tradition and revelry. Skilled hunters, formidable drinkers, and cunning politicians, they carry forward the ancient customs of their ancestors. In the Karoslund, their voices shape policy, their arrows fill the larders, and their songs breathe life into the pines.

 

❖ㅤWALDENIAN

The Waldenians are the spirit of the horse and the sword. Revered for their mastery in soldiery and weapon-forging, they form the bedrock of the Karoslund’s defense. With a proud equestrian tradition, they are a people both steadfast and unyielding, embodying loyalty through martial excellence and craftsmanlike discipline.

 

 

THE KIROLG I KAROS, KNOWN AS the Circle of Crows in the common tongue, stands as the central authority of the Karoslund. This council serves not only as a ruling assembly but as a living embodiment of the Haeseni refugees that have settled in the far north. Composed of household heads and appointed officials, it ensures that no voice is left unheard and no matter is left unspoken.

 

The council exists to maintain balance between governance, culture, defense, and tradition. Its leadership is steered by the Hesir, though each member bears the right to speak, debate, and vote. To prevent stalemates, the council must always consist of an odd number of members. Council meetings – otherwise known as folksmoots – convene regularly, and any sitting member of the Circle may call for one when necessary.

Head of the council and the village. Holds final authority in all matters. This position is traditionally inherited by House Barbanov-Bihar, but if no heir exists or is willing, the council may elect a new Hesir.

The right hand of the Hesir. Assumes duties during absence, illness, or incapacity. Appointed by the Hesir, though future councils may vote to make this an elected seat.

 

Araniskar | The Keeper of Coin

Oversees taxation, village finances, trade, and equitable distribution of resources. Ensures fair land allocation and housing for new settlers.

 

Enestrik | The Master of Merriment

Responsible for festivals and celebrations held within the confines of the Karoslund. Maintains Canonist traditions while honoring Haeseni culture brought by settlers.

Leads the Karoslund’s levy and maintains village security. Oversees training and preparedness, ensuring the defense of the land and its people.

 

 

NESTLED IN THE NORTHERN PINEWOODS, the Karoslund stands proudly upon the quiet, glimmering shore of Lake Inga. This is a village where stories are carved into wood, brewed into wine, and sung beside the hearth.

 

The Karoslund is a Haeseni vassal settlement of the Kingdom of Norland and is led by the watchful matriarch of House Barbanov-Bihar. Despite the hardship the Haeseni settlers have faced, the settlement boasts a rich spirit, a sturdy council, and a people bound by both faith and cultural pride.

❖ㅤTHE CROW’S PERCH TAVERN

Come warm your bones and your belly. The Crow’s Perch is the Karoslund’s central tavern – a lively, fire-lit lodge where tales are traded for drinks and where newcomers often find their first welcome. Whether you’re seeking a hot stew or a round of Haeseni chess, you’ll find it here.

 

 

❖ㅤTHE HALL OF HAESENI

A multi-level hall built by many hands for many purposes. On the lower floors, cheesemaking and brewing are practiced with pride. Climb the stairs and you’ll find studios where paintings, and literature are crafted and shared. 

 

 

❖ㅤTHE HOSPITAL OF SAINT AMYAS

Founded in honor of Saint Amyas, patron of medicine, this humble but vital structure offers aid to the sick, wounded, and weary. Under the capable leadership of Mikhaila Colborn, the hospital serves both villagers and travelers alike. Here, alchemical poultices, Canonist compassion, and practiced hands bring comfort to those in need.

 

 

❖ㅤTHE CHAPEL OF ST. KARL

A modest yet noble chapel dedicated to St. Karl, beloved in Canonist faith. Here, faithful Karoslunders gather to pray, wed, and mourn. It is a sanctuary in all senses of the word and allows Haeseni villagers faithful respite after a long day’s work.

 

 

❖ㅤTHE HALL OF CROWS

At the heart of the Karoslund stands the home of House Barbanov-Bihar, wherein the Hesir resides. More than a manor, the Hall of Crows is both a command post and ancestral hearth. Here, the Kirolg i Karos convenes frequently to discuss matters of the village’s governance.

The Kossin i ve Karoshird would gaze upon the newly-released guide with a smile, a feeling of pride and optimism hitting him. There was much work to be done, admittedly, but the worst of their situation seemed to be over. 

 

He'd pin the guide on his wall, before donning his armor and heading out, a continuously moving effort, but a good one nevertheless.

A WANDERING REBBE quickly has his faith in humanity restored as the faith of the Raevor he had previously been so quick to label as apostate swine was confirmed. A chapel, and good people of the Lord. Quickly, he began hobbling his way out of the grotto to begin his missionary work.
