A Silver Plea

Uphold the Silver Bulletin Board, a notice is placed upon an open corner. So it reads…

The Blessed State stands, once more, upon the brink of war; it is not called to it by an ally requesting aid in their campaigns, nor is it done against fractured fragments of Mali’Aheral. This time, the State is called to War because it must defend itself, against what was an ally during one of the largest spanning wars across these lands. None object to the cause of the Caurosi, nor are objections raised to the validity of these claims and yet regardless; no effort is made of the ‘Thill to seek peace. In a few short years, violence and bloodshed have been revised; no longer are they among the worst of Impurities to be wantonly engaged in, so much that the Sillumiran must be kept hidden to preserve their dignity in their solemn duty, but the marker of Purity to be declared and celebrated; “Look at we Blessed ‘Thill, kidnappers and vagabonds upon your roads”. No longer is it frowned upon for a ‘Thill to carry themselves as if preparing for violence, but it is illegal to be in a state where one is not ready at all times within elcihi’thilln to engage in such. Debate no longer stands as the pleasant marker of our society, but instead the blade’s edge; speak Peace, and cries of Treason might echo without any sort of thought or justification.

Why? Why do reports speak of ‘Thilln whom declare themselves Godly in their acts of lowly banditry? Why do we cast aside open debate, rationale and logic, for the emotional cries of Honor and Duty? Why do we shun the Scholar, the Artisan, the ‘Thill whom thinks and ponders and debates his llir with earnest through and counterpoint, so they may both learn something in favor of the Blacksmith, the Terrorist, The Killer, The Kidnapper - Why has the Studies of the ‘Thilln been shuddered, and thrust upon them the occupations of War?

Even the Blind might see this lies in the Government; echoes of the Tyranny of the Sohaer An Naedwylm resound throughout it. They meet behind closed doors and meeting rooms; they ride out in the night to find lone folk, equally Fighting Men and unfighting Women and Children and they call this War; they claim they are victorious because they dozen fight alongside a hundred-thousand others in a battle, and act no better than bandits after, begetting ransom for all whom have the misfortune to wander our lands. Do we not recall the days when to permit the Valah, the Mali’ and the others into our Blessed City was a rarity, granted by the knowledge they brought to exchange for our eternal records?

I remember when the Sillumir had not names, but aliases of numbers; when their duty was sacred and impure, and so we honored their sacrifice of their own Purity and Self, as they gave us the space, such that we needed not carry arms within our Blessed Walls, or spend time Learning in preparation of War. We, the Blessed ‘Thilln of Haelun’or, made it clear with the election of the Silver Triumvirate; we would not stand for the backroom meetings of State and Office, writing treaties that surrendered the autonomy of the Silver State. Here we stand, in a repeat of written history; in a state of War following a War barely ended; one that did not come to us, but we forced into it by demands of Honor by the very actions of that Government, done in silence and equally done with rousing ceremony.

The foremost question of any speaks only to the truth of the matter; no logical refute is offered, no rational reply is given, only the meagerest of questions; “Where were you?” and to this I reply clearly; I spoke in debate and was labeled a traitor by the first reply, spoken faster than thought. I was told I understood not sacrifice, understood not honor; and yet the Sohaer, self-proclaimed Watcher, neglects her own self-proclaimed duty of the Upholding of the Veil to fight against Men. No scholarly expeditions have ventured out unto the Swamp, regardless of repeated inquiries; No scholars of the Library go forth and uncover new things of this land, woefully understood and dreadfully understudied - I have done this, and more; and I return to find the Library empty of Scholars, the street empty of Blessed Vendors, and only the cold stare of named Sillumir present. And yet, the greatest of all woes to be spoken;

This all brought silence. No debate has graced our halls any longer, no ‘Thill stands before their fellow ‘Thill and discusses theory and idea, and so no betterment is brought to the Mali’thilln - it is not sought. The Health of the Mind, The Body, The Soul is all forlorn and cast aside for another blade to proclaim glory in a War; here it has come to our doorstep. I say this is enough; let us return to what is our way, and not this perverse mimicry, where we twist the words of our fellows so we may justify more violence. Let us make peace, and honest debate, and study - not bloodied war. I invite all ‘Thill to come and speak; we are not a People whom hide our thoughts, whom conceal logic with emotional reaction.

“If you invite all ‘thill to speak their thoughts,  you would quickly find their outmost support of Valindra and her government. Just another who wishes to seize power during times of crisis of the Silver State. No better then Braxus.”

while I agree with many of your points, I also disagree in the fact of expeditions made to the swamp, to study the Chromaweave. While it may not seem you are involved, We have gone and attempted to study it, only to find out the same things as you and The other mages guild have.

The Soaher believes our library halls should be closed to foreigners, thus members of our stoic city may submit a piece of their own literature to gain access to our collection. Something I heavily disagree upon, but my voice as A librarian means little these days.

for a while now no actual lectures or debates have been held, I’m not much of a debater, I’m very open minded to many opinions and dive into my own study to debunk them for future conversations and possible debates. My own mistake as a Librarian and a Guardian of the Library is not holding more events like these. Then again any citizen of the silver city can as well. If I’m not mistaken you could too. If this invitation isn’t rhetorical you should open the floor for those to hear you out.

As per the war itself, I am unsure as to what actions have been taken besides the diplomacy that was done with Allie’s. However that information I’m not privy to, possibly ask eLokarir’tir or Soaher about it, they could surely give you a better answer.

beyond that I respond as a llir understanding that the silence is piercing the minds of our blessed citizens and their well being. I only hope something actually is said rather than not.

"It appears my promulgation did not fall upon deaf ears, that there are still Mali’thill within the walls of the blessed city that yearn for our old ways - the proper ways. Unfortunately, their number holds no immediate governmental authority, especially not in the form of that child-kidnapping, emotional wreck of an Okarir'tir who wished to have me arrested and murdered for upsetting him."

A note was pinned to the bottom of the missive.

To Annyerir,

In regards to the most recent happenings within our politics. The issues lies not within the first two points of the demands, as such is easily done. No hand has been brought to silence any people, as you are now, pasting this missive itself upon the boards that we read by the day. The third point lies the inherent problem. You cry for purity, you cry for peace, yet under Galahad neither will ever be obtained. We might replace our Sohaer and show off our words of appeasement any day. I have lived near two hundred fifty years, and our city, our home has stood for almost five times that. Why should we strive to hand it away at the wave of a hand, especially to one who would do us no justice?  In our times of struggle, we must raise the blade. I do agree in the sense that the anonymity for the Sillumir should have been upheld, that only the Okarir'tir should know the true identities. As is the way and the least we could do to hide ourselves from the action that must painstakingly be done and are required.

Though the numbers remain, yet the masks have been cast aside. The Mali'thill have live long-winded lives, and have grown wise enough to know that such things must be done. Now, senseless violence, similar to that of the outbreaks of an enraged Urukhim, should certainly be put to rest and be trialed as necessary. Though, does it not make sense to be prepared to defend yourself in times of war? We pride ourselves on debate, logical thought, and knowledge; Is it not logical to be armed and prepared should something break through and attack you, or shall you jabber their ear off? Ne, you fight and defend yourself.

Artisans and scholars. They are the pride of our state, it is encouraged that people study, create, explore, develop. As such is the meaning of Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya, so long as they are not addled by sheer arrogance and become like the thorn of a rose. There is a stark laziness however, we are as creative as we strive to be. All it takes is a little initiative. For instance, you might have placed a time and date upon this missive and called for debate? If you call for a debate, scheduled justly, people will come. If you call for a study hall of interest, people will come. Workshops, medical lessons, magicks, people will come. You mistake our armored Sillumiran as simple soldiers. The Sillumiran are the blade of our nation, yet they are ALSO the scholars, artisans, and mages. It takes not even a trained eye to be aware of that. So when you say you come back to streets empty of scholars in favor of Sillumiran, to you, I say: They are one and the same. The swamps, for instance, have been explored- the same sourced information that you might have come across, all the same.

And so, I will leave off this long-winded response before I am run off of paper. We can replace our Sohaer if we so choose, we might write a publicly smitten apology, though to simply hand off everything our predecessors have worked for is madness. Should you wish to debate over philosphy, theory, or otherwise, then DO so. Initiative. Initiative. Initiative. Our city has always been what we make for it. Call for a debate, schedule it. Call for a lecture, schedule it. Should you want to bring a group of people out on an expedition to learn and source information, garner interest, and schedule it. I am betwixt the age of what was once young, and what some still do not consider AGED, yet I have seen this pattern repeat itself across the centuries.. All it takes is for WE, as the mali'thill of Haelun'or to come together with a common goal.

The Sohaer simply smiled as her allies revealed themselves yet her foes did the same. She reflected upon her actions-- and proceeded with the support of her followers.
