Eldwyn's Favor

Tier 2 | Rare

Spoiler

Due to this potion being the creation of a solitary alchemist, it would not be open knowledge for those who are not given or taught the recipe by the creators.

Purpose:

Initially, in the hopes of aiding those who wished to venture far into the bitter frost of the North, this oil was crafted by the alchemists of Caurost. Treating clothing with this concoction will provide the wearer with a cozy warmth or respite from winter's nipping. While it may be a resource for traveling in unsavory climates, it can serve as a gift for cold days.

Recipe:

Base: Lard

  • Fire | Heat x3
  • Mundane | Balance x
  • Mundane | Curtailment x1
  • Mundane | Endurance x2

Effects:

When worn, any fabric treated with this oil produces a warming effect, akin to the comforting sensation of sitting by a crackling hearth, wrapped in a fur cloak. Rather than retaining Heat, the treated fabric is designed to maintain a perpetual warmth, ensuring the wearer's coziness in various environments. However, excessive use of this fabric can lead to overheating, causing potential discomfort. The oil itself can provide minimal warmth, but the fabric is favorable.

Crafting and Application Process:

When making this oil, the first step is to boil the chilled lard until it has a separate consistency resembling golden honey. Once this is done, the following steps must be rapid. Three counts of Heat signed by Fire must be added first, followed closely by one count of Balance

After stirring the mixture, the alchemist may add one count of Curtailment and the final two of Endurance. Once the oil has been allowed to settle and cool, it may be strained through a fabric similar to a cheesecloth.

Finally, to treat the cloth in this oil, it should be soaked for a few hours, then rinsed and stomped upon. The oil itself is scalding on its own and only becomes bearable when applied to fabric.

Redlines:

  1. Fabric treated with Eldwyn's Favor is warm enough to cause discomfort if worn in warm places. This discomfort includes the possibility of overheating, but it can not be used to harm another player intentionally.
  2. The oil can not be saturated into more than one piece of cloth. For resource conservation, an alchemist may craft a single cloak.
  3. Someone with heat-sight may see this treated fabric and its wearer as a glowing person-shaped silhouette, much brighter than the average due to its perpetual warmth.
  4. If someone were to try to ingest the oil for warmth, they would regurgitate and feel an acrid burning sensation for a few moments following.
  5. The treated fabric protects from the environment.
  6. You must learn this potion from an alchemist or a recipe book.
  7. This oil does not require an ST Signature.

though neat, this is alchemical equivalent to the lesser voidal enchant of alter temperature at best which can already be put onto coats and the like, or a direct upgrade to the already existing 'warmth potion' at worst.

I do really like how you mentioned that it does affect other potions like heat sight in the redlines, buuut little else to go off of.

also why is this rare :(

Hallo! Thank you, the only preexisting warmth potion to my knowledge, which I did double check in the ST discord, is one recipe called "Insulating Decoction"; this is an ingestible, whereas Eldwyn's Favor is purely a fabric treatment. I will keep it as rare.

Whether it is the alchemical equivalent, I believe it makes sense to have an equivalent as some characters would be irply disinterested in magical items, whereas they may be open to alchemical.

Nice, simple, straight to the point and fills an alchemical niche. Redlines are incredibly fair. Good work!
