Musin recruitment drive

Well, well, well, I post again. The title says it all. Strap in, this year’s post is different.

 

Musin: (noun) A CA race based on mice with a focus on whimsical aspects.

 

I can see why Musin isn’t for everyone. That’s alright. But they are like every other persona. If you never take a chance on them you could be robbing yourself of an amazing rp opportunity. Unlike playing a descendant you don’t have all the opportunity for positions or magic as easily as they do. You can have a struggle from rags to riches and glory. And isn’t that a rewarding feeling to achieve?

 

But I know some may think “why not just play a peasant character and have the opportunity for other magics and ease of access on top of rags to riches?” Well that is true, you can just make a basic descendant and go from there but you are robbing yourself of another thing. Expanding your horizon and stepping into something new, and that’s what makes it so much fun. From what at first glance looks to be a highly restrictive race is in actuality a chance to try something different and see the setting in a new light just like any new experience.

 

Here are some quotes from musin players when I asked them personally what they felt about Musin and what they liked and thought could be done differently. Remember these are their own thoughts and feelings about their experience playing as a Musin for months.

 “For me personally the reason I play a musin has changed over the years.

 

Founding Babblebrook and making a vassal for the musin to call a home has been a big driving force in why I enjoy playing a musin but it’s also their whimsical nature, the challenges put upon them that are like a puzzle to overcome.

 

I do wish to see more people actively take part in the musin community whether that’s being a more active member of Babblebrook, or just playing as their musin more frequently.

 

The race has been kicked under the rug as a throw away race for a bit too long and it would be nice to see more people push to show that we’re more than that.

 

I’d also like to see some more collaborations between the three existing musin cultures if possible.

 

Whether that’s co-operative events or general assistance in some shape or form, as it’ll be nice to see Musin of all walks of life banding together.

“For  me, when I first started Quill, it was shortly after I joined the server and I was looking for a place where my ambition to help things grow could be used. 

 

I’ve found that niche in Babblebrook, and have since then not only headed up build teams to make our homes in the literal sense,  but also worked as a writer to create foundations that new players could reference should they decide to make a musin and want a more recent and cultural background that anyone could draw from.

 

One of my goals is to do my best to continue doing this for at least as long as quill is around if not longer!

 

I know that a lot of the more min/max players don’t play Musin because of magic limitations, but us musin are masters at working with what we are given, and ingenuity is a big part of many musin lives. 

 

While our numbers aren’t very large, those that do stick around are some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met”

“- I play Musin because i like everything rat, my name is literally ‘Cheddah’ , Musin kinda give me that ‘Underdog’ feeling; and i LOVE underdogs. i like the whimsical and free funny RP that comes with. Nothing compares to jumping an Olog with 5 Musin and Winning. the fact that everything is big for them so everything has to be made smaller for them. MUSHBURGERS

 

- What can we do better? i wouldn’t say ‘WE’ because ik alot of Musin arent interested in it, but IMO More Musin need to partake in CRP / Combat Roles (Knights, Mercenary, Kings Guard, etc etc) Reason being; Alot of people dont play Musin because they feel as if they are weak, and die nearly instantly. (which isnt the case) the Best CRP ive ever had has been with Musin/ Playing Musin. We need to do better at portraying Musin being able to ‘Take care of themselves’ rather than depending on others to protect us. Musin are seen as a Weak Race, by atleast 60-80% of LOTCers.

 

- What are we good at? literally anything that any other Race can do, Our height and lesser souls are our only problems imo, apart from that i personally think Musin can do anything, but obviously our BEST qualities are always our whimsical happy attitudes and our free spirited adventures. (i love rats, i love cheese, i love you guys! 🙂)

 

- To end if off, Why i havent been around too much Musin / Playing  them: i feel like ive done legit as much as i can with Musin, ive tried CRP Musin, ive tried Bard Musin, ive tried Adventure Club Musin, legit any magic we can learn, ive made a Musin to do it. ive had Musin of various races (Sakigaki, BBrook, Numendil, Celianor, etc etc). Long story short i feel like ive done as much as i can with them, and now its just basically repeating past ratto’s. pretty much ive become bored with what we have now as a Race (not Musin themselves, but what theyre capable of / can do.) 

 

Regardless of everything, Musin have and always will be the most Fun race ive played, nothing beats the feeling of having to scamper around Bigguns feet to watch a Festival or a Joust 😂”

It's just not very much fun being "the other" every place you go and then not finding much support from the community itself. Probably not the quote you want for a recruitment post, but there ya go. It’s such a tiny group of people playing Musin that there is effectively no automatic in-game community (Like with Humans for the most obvious example).”

 “I started playing a musin after seeing you fight someone in lurin over a year ago, and I decided man I should try that too! I decided that I'd want Buttons to follow in the footsteps of Spuds and Kiku, becoming a fighter. I started in Celia'nor then moved to Babblebrook and have had tons of adventures. My favorite thing about musins is probably how much stuff you can get into because you are 'cute.' An entire coven, necromancer cult, and lumbridge all tried to recruit Buttons and I wouldn't have these opportunities if I was playing a boring descendant.

 

I think musins are doing great right now especially with the druidism change allowing musin to practice it which is a step in the right direction for magic musin, the main thing to improve is simply to get more members, everything else I think is going well. Buttons is my one and only character after I pked my human so I could solely be a mouse duelist. The most fun I've ever had on LOTC has been with Buttons, and I've also gotten the most story from it either sad or happy. 

 

I'll end it off with my favorite moment playing with Buttons: When he was in the diraar he and 10 or so other members went to a darkspawn village, then an entire horde of darkspawn attacked and Buttons told everyone to escape and that he'd hold the line; he then proceeded to stab darkspawn for a good amount of time allowing others to escape. I also love the perks of musin being able to avoid attacks a lot easier, helps prevent death in CRP scenarios. 

 

I plan on sticking around next map in Babblebrook as Buttons or perhaps a new musin.

While these experiences won’t speak for everybody and not everybody has expressed their feelings about Musin roleplay it is in the community largely agreed that your experience, your character, and your fun is built on how you play the character and treat them. These are not Christmas toys, these are commitments you can make and play!
