On the Persistence of Writs

 

 

 

17th of Snow’s Maiden, 2040

 

 

It has been a long time since I have needed to retrieve my parchment. I have been mostly pleased with the development and progression of the Empire of Man, and am appreciative of all involved in our victory which has created this state of prosperity for all of virtuous mankind. However, there is a small matter which requires me to once again take up the pen and post another decree, though this one is much narrower in scope than my others.

 

It has been brought to my attention that some magi by the name of Arthur has claimed to possess authority to act as an agent of the church, which he utilized to immolate an elven wizard in the Imperial Heartlands. This authority was improperly granted, and this magi should not, cannot, and will not ever represent the will of the Church in any capacity. However, this incident elucidates a greater issue: that these writs of persistent authority have in the past been issued, and have continuously caused incidents of unwanted exercise of authority with little ability to track and check the status and standing of these deputies.

 

Thus, effective immediately, all writs of permission and authority issued by any church authority are declared NULL AND VOID. Any who henceforth claim to possess authority by wielding any writ or document issued prior to the issuance of this one will be considered to be incompetent to exercise the authority of the Church, and should be dealt with as fit by local authorities and furthermore referred back to the Church.

Somewhere overlooking Vallagne, now chained, Irulan chuckled to herself. With a tree at her back, and a chilly wind battering upon her, she bit from an apple, still grinning as she read the missive. "Hah.. Null and Void. Clever."

Then she let the missive burn up in her fingers, and returned to her business.

A magi who had decided to distance herself from the liberal leaning magi regimes of present quipped dully, returning to the arduous process to meddling with a number of cogs and pulleys in a half-finished gear stomach. Once she'd permitted herself a break from her work, the ancient canonist readied a quill and a roll of parchment, ready to petition for the preservation of her own magely rights.
