Arcanium Atronach Cores

The process of creating Atronachs has remained largely unchanged over the years. Forgers have relied on tried and true methods that involve using a magegold core and focus crystals, which has proven to be an efficient and effective approach. However, some curious minds have always questioned whether there could be a more innovative and unique way to create Atronachs that would result in truly enhanced creations. Thus, the concept of using Arcanium Cores was born.

Arcanium is a special material that takes on a distinctive form during the forging process, as well as holding a large amount of mana making it an ideal component for crafting Atronachs. Depending on the nature of the atronach and core that are combined during the forging process, there are a couple of outcomes that would come about.

ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴀᴛʀᴏɴᴀᴄʜ - ᴄᴏʀᴇ ɪɴᴛᴇʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴꜱ

When using an Arcanium Core in the creation process of a Voidal Construct, there’s two interactions worth mentioning that differ from the normal outcome derived from the normal creation process of Atronachs. Firstly, the Arcanium-Cored Atronach will find its mana reservoir enhanced, for the quantity of mana able to be stored in Arcanium is greater than that of other mana-inclined materials. Secondly, the personality of the Atronach will reflect the kind of Core sustaining its activity, much like Arcanium takes on the looks on the magic used, the resulting Atronach reflects such in their way of behaving and expressing.

Most of the changes that come about are rather passive and simply improve the quality of life of an atronach. Overall, the use of Arcanium Cores offers a fresh perspective on the creation of Atronachs, inspiring forgers to experiment with new materials and designs. Or the possibility of enhancing the abilities of the Atronachs themselves.

The creation of an arcanium core is not much different than simply tacking on regular arcanium creation onto the creation of a regular Atronach ‘core’. Similar to regular Atronach cores, you start off with an inner core of focus crystals encased in a sphere of your metal of choice, noting the metal will be effectively destroyed during the Arcanium Forging Process. Afterwards, you simply follow the steps of regular Arcanium forging, bombarding the metal with enough mana to transform it.

Should the Arcanium process be successful, the next step must be performed on a different day or by a different mage, for the first ritual leaves the participants drained of their mana for a whole twenty-four hours. The Atronach Forger should then proceed to enchant the newly-forged core with all the enchantments needed for either a Limb-Core or a Full-Core, and binding in the core the desired Element for the Atronach which does not need to be the same used for the Arcanium. It’s important to remark that the element of the atronach is NOT defined by the type of Arcanium core placed within, but by the element enchanted in the core during the enchanting process.

Similar to the creation of Arcanium itself, the process of creation an Arcanium Atronach core is not inherently open knowledge, and must be taught in roleplay, though, if the player knows the Arcanium Forging process, the process of creation regular Atronach cores, and the existence of Arcanium cores they would feasibly be able to combine that knowledge together with simple experimentation. It is worth noting that an existing Atronach core cannot be turned into Arcanium, attempting it would destroy the previous core turning it into Arcanium but the enchantments placed prior onto it would be effectively dispelled by the turning of the Magegold into Arcanium.

Redlines of Creation:

Spoiler

  • Creation of the Arcanium Atronach core follows all the lore and redlines of the creation of arcanium, including rolling and its modifiers (Lore Here)
  • The core must  be inert before beginning the Arcanium forging process
  • Screenshots for proof of roleplay of both the successful Arcanium and the Core Imbuement is required to have the core signed, yet there’s no need to have the Arcanium signed before attempting the Core imbuement as to ease the process.
  • ST signature is required for Arcanium Cores and Arcanium-Cored Limbs
  • For the creation of an Atronach with an Arcanium core, the forger must have knowledge of both of the elements involved in the process, or must have someone present who does have the required knowledge.
  • The knowledge of the creation of Arcanium Cores themselves is open to whomever knows the process of Atronach and Arcanium creation respectively.

ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴇɴᴇꜰɪᴛꜱ ᴏꜰ ᴀʀᴄᴀɴɪᴜᴍ ᴄᴏʀᴇꜱ

Arcanium-Cored Atronachs differ from their less refined siblings in the fact that the mana charge able to be stored in their Cores is far superior, allowing Solid Atronachs to have only to recharge every two (2) weeks and Liquid Atronachs to have to recharge every six (6) days. This increase on the amount of mana they can store, also means that the amount of time required for a full charge is now doubled. Furthermore, a mage is no longer capable of fully charging an Atronach manually, should their core be made of Arcanium, reaching only half the charge if done by that method.

A second change that comes from the enhancement on the creation of Atronach Cores relies on the fact that Arcanium per se is a very different material than what was used before for this same task. Where Magegold is only as durable as normal Gold, Arcanium bears resistance lower to regular Steel, equally where normal Atronach cores take four (4) or (5) hits to be destroyed, Arcanium ones take five (5) or six (6). Should the hits be rendered through means of a Thanic weapon, the core would only be capable of standing three (3) direct hits before being rendered unusable. This will, in turn, also heat up the Thanhic Steel used against it accordingly.

Thirdly, some harmless visual changes come with the use of an Arcanium Core. Being powered by one of these makes the resulting Atronachs almost overflow from their plating, seemingly leaking from the seams. Their elements take, visually, much more of their forms, making them look even more like the embodiment of their element and less like elemental knights. That does not mean that they require less plating, in fact plating is more needed than ever, making only plates with a resistance equal or more than Iron  able to contain the element in place.

Finally, with the increase of the stored mana it is only reasonable that should an Arcanium Atronach Core be destroyed, the range of the elemental explosion caused by the Contingency effectively doubling its reach from seven (7) or eight (8) blocks to a total of ten (10) in all cases.

Redlines:

Spoiler

  • Solid Atronachs with an Arcanium Core must recharge every 2 weeks.
  • Liquid Atronachs with an Arcanium Core must recharge every 6 days.
  • A mage solehandedly recharging an Atronach with an Arcanium core can only charge them up to half their mana reservoir.
  • Arcanium Atronach Cores can take 5 or 6 hits; to know which one of both apply, refer to Atronach Lore and add a +1 to the base hits they can take.
  • Arcanium Atronach Cores can take 3 hits from a Thanhic weapon before being rendered inert.
  • The plates of an Arcanium-Cored Atronach must be made of a material equal or stronger than Iron. Stone plating is also allowed, other materials can be accepted up to ST discretion. Softer materials can be used for decoration or reinforcement but never to make the main part of the platings.
  • Redlines for the Contingency spells of each Atronach still apply, only the range has been increased to 10 blocks

ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟɪᴛʏ ᴏꜰ ᴀʀᴄᴀɴɪᴜᴍ-ᴄᴏʀᴇᴅ ᴀᴛʀᴏɴᴀᴄʜꜱ

It is widely known that no increase in power comes without a downside to compensate for it. In the case of Arcanium Cores, this downside is reflected on the personality of the resulting Atronachs. Where normal Atronachs have freedom to develop their personality, for they are born with nothing in their Voidal minds other than the directives given by their creators, Arcanium-Cored Atronachs inherently base their personalities on the type of Arcanium used in their Cores. That to say, while they can still develop their personalities as any other Atronach or Construct, this innate behaviour and personality is so rooted in their beings that cannot be overridden, not even by a directive of the creator.

This behavioural changes, while not inherently bad, have a deep influence on how the atronachs will develop their personalities. The personality changes are as follows:

Spoiler

  • Fire Arcanium Core: Their moods are like fire, they light up and vanish fast. Easy to anger and hard to contain, one of the most temperamental types of Atronachs. They don’t like to be kept in a place for long, they pace restlessly if ignored or contained.
  • Water Arcanium Core: They tend to flow, avoiding conflict when possible. Hard to get a clear answer from, their moods are quite adaptable to the surroundings yet that makes it hard to know what they are thinking.
  • Air Arcanium Core: Their extreme curiosity compensates for their lack of patience. They don’t like being told what to do by strange people and they can become unpredictable when not treated properly. They tend to also interpret instructions in ways that favour them.
  • Earth Arcanium Core: Their mind is solid like stone, they follow commands literally. Not a huge fan of changes, they’ll fiercely protect their creators and follow the instructions given. Their minds are so literal that they have problems understanding irony and deceit.
  • Transfiguration Arcanium Core: Of the perfectionist kind, Atronachs with this kind of Core have a special attraction towards what they call ‘Perfection’. A perfection that can never be achieved, for their standards are big, making them rearrange objects, patterns or even forms around them. This unachievable goal makes them be in a state of constant impatience.
  • Illusion Arcanium Core: Deceivers by nature, these Atronachs will not play fair. They develop different kinds of quirks such as lying or stealing.  It’s not uncommon to hear them speaking aloud or even interacting with imagined entities.
  • Conjuration Arcanium Core: Their appreciation for life is much bigger than other Atronachs. They will fight endlessly to protect animals and plants, even if that means risking themselves not on purpose. Some may take even behavioural traits of animals they like.
  • Translocation Arcanium Core: They never seem to be in one place at all, at least when it comes to their mind. Always changing topics and unable to focus on anything for more than a few minutes. Their mind jumps from topic to topic like a Translocationists travels from place to place, don’t expect them to have a good memory at all.
  • Artificery Arcanium Core: Same as Artificers, they develop the urge to care for others by any necessary means. Constantly toying with bits and bops, they constantly seem to need to give stuff to other people. They are friendly, even a bit too much, ignoring red flags on other people. They believe there’s no problem they can’t solve, and when they find one, it can develop an existential crisis.
  • Voidstalking Arcanium Core: Atronachs with a Voidstalking core develop double personality, mimicking the Second Consciousness. Each of these two personalities might develop one or more of the conditions specified in Voidstalking lore.
  • Scion Arcanium Core: They seem somewhat disconnected from their own being and the world that surrounds them. They are either unable to take decisions or too fast at taking them without much thought. They might develop any other disorder stated in Scion lore.
  • Eminence Arcanium Core: The embodiment of God-Complex. They believe they are better not only than any other Atronach but also any other living being. Selfishness and superiority are just the beginning of these twisted minds for they can develop any other mental changes stated in Eminence lore.

ᴏɴ ᴀʀᴄᴀɴɪᴜᴍ-ᴄᴏʀᴇᴅ ᴀᴛʀᴏɴᴀᴄʜ ʟɪᴍʙꜱ

The addition of an Arcanium Core to Atronach Limbs is usually a step forward to what could be done before. While the main functionality of these limbs does not change, the abilities dependent on these are honed to a point that even some mages would struggle to achieve. These boons vary from arms and hands to legs and feet.

An Arcanium Limb Core

(Pinterest by DemisuPozuka)

If an individual were to possess an arm that contained an Arcanium Core, the Elemental Affinity would be enhanced, empowering the Atronach Limb and granting its wielder enhanced control over the associated element. This would allow for the manipulation and bending of the element at will, without any limitations or hindrances.

In the case of Telekinetic Atronach Arms, the addition of an Arcanium Core, gives the user of this kind of limbs the ability to rearrange their platings non-combatively in order to create a different array of tools, as if using Alter Shape on the limb itself. This, of course, is an addition to the base Telekinetic Affinity for arms and hands.

Legs behave all equally, increasing the height at which they can hover over the ground to a full (1) meter for aesthetic purposes, gaining no real mechanical advantage.

These limbs though, take a big toll on the user’s soul and thus only one (1) Arcanium-Cored limb can be worn at all times by non mages and up to two (2) by mages:

  • Should someone not connected to the Void have two (2) of these kinds of limbs, they’d have a perpetual Enchanter’s Sickness.
  • Should any person try to use three (3) or more of these limbs, they’d become unable to move due to being unable to make them all work.
  • Should the receiver of such a replacement not be a Voidal mage, the use of the inherent Elemental Affinity or the rearranging of the Plating of the limb would give them Enchanter’s Sickness for an (1) hour.

Equally to full sized Atronachs wielding an Arcanium Core, these smaller versions used in Limbs are also sturdier than their magegold counterparts, taking one extra hit to the core to be destroyed. This also applies to their interaction with Thanhic Steel, taking up to thre (3) hits performed with such material.

Redlines:

Spoiler

  • Elemental Affinity  can only be used in non-combat situations.
  • All evocation art is limited by all the redlines of the original evocation.
  • Requires line of sight.
  • Telekinesis Limbs do not gain elemental affinity, though they gain the ability to shift their plating within the limits of Atronach Lore, with volume always remaining constant. This cannot be used in combat or for a combative scenario.
  • Creation of a Limb with an Arcanium Atronach Core follows all lore and redlines of the creation of limb with a regular core.

ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴅᴇꜱᴛʀᴜᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ᴏꜰ ᴀɴᴅ ᴀᴅᴠᴇʀꜱᴇ ᴇꜰꜰᴇᴄᴛꜱ ᴜᴘᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴏʀᴇ

Physical Attacks

Due to the inherent strength bonus of Arcanium versus Magegold, an Arcanium Atronach core will have an advantage over physical attacks upon it. Requiring an additional hit to the core to render the atronach useless. This number is based on the element of the Atronach itself, NOT the core. Liquid atronachs will take 4 hits to destroy the core, and solid atronachs will take 5 hits to destroy the core, assuming that you have the ability to actually hit it.

Elemental Weaknesses

Much like their regular cored counterparts, Arcanium Core atronachs have different elemental weaknesses that will be effective in their destruction. These weaknesses will be dependent on the type of the Atronach and not the kind of Arcanium used in their core.

Auric Oil

Arcanium Atronach Cores follow the lore and redlines outlined in the Essential Oil Lore post; if hit with a weapon coated in Auric Oil, they will be cut through quite easily.

Abjuration

Arcanium Core Atronachs are similarly weak to Abjuration as their regular core counterwarts. Wards would prove an impassable barrier of entry for the Atronachs, a hit to its elemental form will stun it for one emote, and a direct hit to the core will disable the atronach permanently. Just like Wards and Abjurations work with standard magics, one must know the process of creating an Atronach Core in order to Abjure it.

Thanhic Steel:

As stated before, both Atronachs and Atronach Limb Cores can stand up to three (3) hits performed by a Thanhic Weapon before being rendered completely useless. This is to say, the Thanhium will heat according to its own lore.

  • Each of the weaknesses follow the lore and redlines that they are derived from, especially pertaining to specific potions like Auric Oil,  specific spells like Abjuration and specific materials like Thanhium.

The vastly boosted level of mana that an Arcanium atronach core provides can be used as a boon in other magics, perhaps even aiding in the creation of magical artifacts that may need that boost. This is rather freeform and simply serves the purpose of giving potential Magical Artifact makers some more versatility in power sources and more creativity.

Spoiler

  • Arcanium Atronach cores must be carried by the Atronach that they are part of and signed by the Lore Team.
  • Arcanium Atronach Cores require an item containing; The Type of Arcanium, The Type of Atronach and the name of the Player. On top of that they also require a normal Atronach CA where they’ll be specified as having an Arcanium core.
  • It is not possible to perform the Arcanium Ritual and the Enchantment of the Core on the same day by the same person. It either has to be two different people or two different days.

ᴘᴜʀᴘᴏꜱᴇ

As per the existing lore on various types of Atronachs, it is indicated that the cores are constructed solely from Magegold, with no reference to the use of Arcanium Cores. Although the application of Magegold cores appears to be reasonable, it is peculiar that no documentation is available on the creation of Atronachs using Arcanium, the metal made of and for Voidal utility.

Our effort to introduce Arcanium Cores to the creation of Atronachs serves to provide additional functionality to these mechanical beings. This approach aims to enhance the diversity of Atronachs and allow for more creative freedom in the way they are played, giving them more time between recharges.

By incorporating Arcanium Cores into Atronachs, it expands the potential uses and applications of Arcanium, which was previously limited to other fields of Voidal Magic. The introduction of this new element into the creation of Atronachs opens up new possibilities for enhancing their functionality and durability.

In conclusion, the inclusion of Arcanium Cores in the construction of Atronachs expands their potential, leading to more innovative and creative possibilities for the constructs and a more unique style available to atronachs.

I had only been new on my first atronach when this was written and didn't know any voidal magics yet, but now that I have my second atronach and know how to make arcanium (Wich I do a ritual for pretty much every day before I log off at this point) this would be an amazing thing to add to atronach lore.
