Sacrament of Vicar Amendment

As many on the server may know, the Necromancer ‘End Game CA’ (The Arch Lich) is very infamous in the baseline requirements to even achieve the CA and work towards it. The difficult aspect of anyone becoming a creature which, in all fairness, is JUST a skeleton, requires the remains of a creature which is genuinely near impossible to find. The Lore was written 6 years ago and is heavily outdated, with no Necromancers ever getting the opportunity to even work for the Arch Lich CA unless they find very, very specifically tailored ET events. Having a CA locked behind the ST Green Light when other End Game CAs do not (Azdrazi, Zar’Akal, Tree Lords) do not require such red tape feels very outdated. Flame me all you want with the accusation of 'Easy CA'. This patch is meant to allow some mild ground work for when (hopefully) one of the Necro Rewrites are approved. Can't say I did not try!

Thus I propose two variations to change this, both of which involve the removal of Dragon Bones. The first proposition is that instead of Dragon Bones, a living sacrifice in the form of a Holy Mage is required. The second proposition just removes the sacrifice entirely. Both however require a Necromancer to gather three units of Liquid Life Force before the ritual to be used as the primary reagent and substitute in place of the Bones (this may be raised to five should three be considered to low of a count). Changes have been highlighted in Bold. The reason why I have two variants here is because I know some people get so offended at the mere suggestion one must ritually kill someone for something in a magic (yet we all ignore templar trophy mechanic HMM).

Change Log

Spoiler
  • Added a three month CD on ritual for all participants.
  • Added that the Holy Mage Sacrificed is not forced to PK (thought this was obvious, but people must have everything flatly stated)
  • Added that knowledge of the Sacrament of Vicar must be documented on one's MA. One does not need to know the Sacrament to create a TA. (if a Necromancer has the CA, it is assumed they know the Ritual)
  • Reduced the number of Necromancers required for the ritual by 1 (needing 6 players for the sacrament felt insane)
  • Changed wording of 'force feed' to 'tether siphon' for the liquid life force in Holy Mage Sacrifice (felt weird)

Sacrament of the Vicar

A sacrament foreign to all but the most adept of necromancy, it is seldom taught how one becomes an archlich among elder necromancers for its implication and risk to the entirety of the coven.  Only an elder necromancer who has garnered the support of their coven can advance to this stage, as becoming an archlich requires absolute coordination down to every subordinate. An archlich may only be created where the veil of Heith-Hedran is the weakest, first requiring the Sacrament of Heith-Hedran to have cursed the land.

Unlike the creation of Darkstalkers, the vessel of an Archlich must be prepared well in advance.  Firstly, the body must be fleshsmithed from the remains of a slain dragon—a creature capable of holding the terrifying and raw amount of magic that is used in this procedure.  It is then treated by the ground dust of a powerful lich’s phylactery before it is finally ready.

The chosen necromancer must sacrifice themselves where Heith-Hedran is present, placing their faith in the abilities of their coven.  Careful as not to allow the wrong soul into the body, one must reach through Heith-Hedran and rend forth the sacrificed necromancer, forcing their soul into the dragon-forged corpse, where they are born again as death incarnate.

Requires:

  • Black Phylactery Dust
  • Blood of a Hag
  • Remains of a Dragon
  • Fleshsmithing Tools

Spoiler

Mechanics: A necromancer of the fifth tier must kill themselves.  They are then raised as an archlich with the aid of another elder necromancer and four other necromancers.

Redlines:

  • This Sacrament requires six necromancers to conduct: two tier five necromancers, one who will lead the ritual and the other who will become the archlich, and four other necromancers to support them.
  • If the Sacrament is interrupted the would-be archlich must PK.  They may be brought back following 3 narrative months if a successful attempt of the ritual is completed at that time.
  • This sacrament can only be done in a place where Heith-Hedran has been established.

Unlike the creation of Darkstalkers, the vessel of an Archlich must be prepared well in advance.  Firstly, a suitable host who has divine mana running through them must be primed with an abundance of Life Force. This is done by using an inversion fusion of Darkening to tether and fill an the individual with three counts of liquid life force and the Hag’s Blood. A ritual circle made of the Black Dust is then made which shall be used to entrap the soul of the Necromancer and keep other wayward essences from hijacking the vessel.

The chosen necromancer must sacrifice themselves through ritualistic suicide where Heith-Hedran is present, placing their faith in the abilities of their coven.  Careful as not to allow the wrong soul into the body, one must reach through Heith-Hedran and rend forth the sacrificed necromancer, forcing their soul into the Holy Mage; killing the sacrificed victim in the process, where they are born again as death incarnate.

Requires:

  • Black Phylactery Dust
  • Blood of a Hag
  • Three Counts of Liquid Life Force
  • A living Sacrifice with an approved Holy Magic MA/CA
  • Fleshsmithing Tools

One cannot learn the sacrament by merely watching or participating in it, nor is knowledge of the Sacrament required for a TA.
  • The Holy Magic User/CA is not required to PK through this ritual.
  • Necromancers who participate in the Sacrament of Vicar cannot do so again for another three OOC months. This includes the Necromancer who is being raised as an Arch Lich.

Then the to-be Arch Lich must perform the Darkening Spell upon Three Counts of Liquid Life Force which has been mixed with Hag’s Blood.

The chosen necromancer must then sacrifice themselves through ritualistic suicide where Heith-Hedran is present, placing their faith in the abilities of their coven. Careful as not to allow the wrong soul into the body, one must reach through Heith-Hedran and rend forth the sacrificed necromancer, forcing their soul back into the now deceased Necromancer’s Vessel, where they are born again as death incarnate.

I think this is a necessary change. It is comically more difficult than any other end game CA and archliches are really just skeleton necros. Not to mention that it puts pressure on ST to make events that include dragon bones or at least sends covens of necros to their DMs asking for such.

In my opinion, the Blood of a Hag and Black Phylactery Dust should also be removed and changed for something else. Instead, make it simpler and add a long cooldown for those who participate.

i agree with this amendment. i know some necros whos have been at grinding for dragon bones for years... it needs to end. however i would suggest adding perhaps an 3 month cool down for the partipacting necros. as well archliches are supposed to be well rare. W Kunuk  Amendment?

I like the idea of reducing the cost, but I don't know if the end goal of this change is to improve the lore or for certain people to skip the work they've been putting in.

I'd really love to see what a current Archlich thinks, given they'd have gone through the old process and would know how valuable the difference would be. If current lore was passed as a purposeful gatekeeping of the CA (perhaps to reduce corpse couriers), then I'd be hesitant to drop it without some form of ST oversight

Overall +1. I'd love to see some cool archlich rp on the server

becoming a lich should require

the blood of a voidal behemoth

the bones of a greater dragon

the flesh of a zar'kiel

the blood of one of the archons

so they can respawn in 30 minutes and get 1 magic slot back LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

no seriously this is the worst case of old lore st wont fix but refuses to let other ppl try!

Erm. Just state the proof of knowing the sacrament is marked.  on their MA. Like how blood abilities are tracked. Far easier to handle than playing telephone with players to figure out if someone is telling the truth or not.

Also is the sacrificed holy user getting pk'd? Or what. That's pretty vague. OOC consent if so.

This lore has been denied.

This went to a vote and did not pass..

The LT found that three counts of Liquid Life-Force is an extremely cheap cost for a ritual such as this one.
