Raise The Playable Age of Characters

I only skimmed through most of the comments but gave the actual post a decent read so here is my 2 cents.

My current main 2 characters I started both at 5. One of them was taken in by her current family at 6 unofficially, and I went through weeks of (in my opinion) pretty good child rp. But if she had started at 10, I would not have been able to player her properly in the way I did that now has her being a very powerful mage who is working to learn as much as she can.

And for my cheetrah cub, he is currently 10, survived several hours in imperial lands which got them situated enough to get adopted in Adria only because of their young age, and by the time they were 8 that would have been impossible which we found out as his brother was brutally beaten against a tree by guards until he died.

So really the moral of the story is, make rules that stop this powergaming, not removing the chance for interesting rp for the people who do it right with younger characters by forcing them to start older.

Most interactions with child characters feel incredibly non-serious,

either theyre way too dumb or way too smart...

only for the person roleplaying them to crash out and moral posture at consequences from those who haven't bent over backwards to accomodate their (usually satirical) narrative.

Me when I bring my 5 year old son to fight darkspawn and they choose the weakest link to attack (The child). I as an avid evil player, find the issue with this. As it was a very common issue on the previous map where players would think, just cause it was a child persona they would be immune from death or consequences for attempting to combat the dark forces on server.

Once had a 8 year old child larper try to argue they could fight a bear size zekul, and when I mauled them to death they cried in OOC chat and it was quite the scene. This is still something I draw back to this day, as ever since then anytime I've seen these characters in situations they'd have no business being in, it always the same.

Honestly I don't know about this seeing that some people just enjoy playing children for more slice of life and chill rp, it would be locking them out of a good bit of time they can just go around and vibe

Personally I never had any issue with child personas so I don't really see the reason for this, just let people be children longer if they enjoy it and instead focus on rules limiting child soldiers and alike.

10-15 years old is still a pretty young age and they wouldn't be able to reasonably fight, at least not well so it doesn't really adress the issue fully. Nor can they really even learn any feats or magic untill they are like 16/18

I can't read more than 2 consecutive sentences, so I initially thought this thread was arguing to raise the playable age (let characters be older) and I agree. We need more more senile geezers and wizards

I don't see why anyone would want to RP a 5 year old but I don't see any strong arguments for not allowing people to. You met someone playing an annoying lost toddler for cheap drama in RP? Well now it's a lost victorian soot caked orphan. Lost pregnant lady. Lost dog. You won't win this arms race just ignore the RP

10 is a good age. 5-10 is basically your parents going DONT GO OUTSIDE ITS TOO DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!! it makes more sense to see an older kid out and about. I do also agree with the point that waiting ten weeks to play your char would be HELL. my current char, I admit, I played her before she was five, as my main character was killed really suddenly and I was just really excited to play this new char.

Yall already have time warp shenanigans for people who "wander away from civilization" for a while coming back and not having aged (soft pk/hiatus aging rules both IRP and OOC). I see no reason why similar things could not be done for children aging to a quality RP-able age. Hell, orc kunbiez grow to physical maturity/adulthood quicker than the other races as part of their base lore!

Also yes, it is VERY immersion breaking to see the 6 year old with a longsword in CRP. Or Clicks. Raising to 10 would help with that a little

That was retconned actually, all races mature st 18 now (to limit sussy rp). Except kha for some reason they still mature at 15 I think??

I personally began my current main, Aviel, at 7-8 years old, and I RP'd him as a goofball of a child, but nothing that'd delve into Meme RP territory. I personally despise the fact we've got kids that are child soldiers running around and knowing how to fight like full-grown adults, you don't have all the combat knowledge in the world right as you turn seven and you aren't a child strongman. If you play a child, you shouldn't be beating full-grown adults, excluding Voidal Mages and the elderly since they're physically weak. No human child should be able to 1v1 an adult Orc.
Just play adults if ya want to just get straight into CRP on a new character.
I also get some people are perturbed when the players of their persona's friends/partner(s) start playing a new kid persona, but this is exclusively a Human struggle. Don't raise the playable age because of one playerbase's problem.

An alternative solution to the child soldier problem would be to adjust TechLock where children can't go around swinging swords almost as tall as themselves (I see you, Guts LARPers) or have the strength to pull back warbows or crossbows.

At the end of the day, it's up to player preference if someone wants to play their child personas at 5 years old, or the 10 years old you want to raise it to, or even older than that.

yes. let us weed out the child crpers defeating demons at 8

As the demon who was killed by the child, he got it after David & Goliath'ing my demon and rolling a 20. I thought it was good rp, so I thought it was okay!

This is different for me, I will never harm or kill children on my undead or demons as "There is no fun in it. I gain nothing from it."

I like playing my characters at 1 years old, suckling on his thumb whilst crying as he’s rocked in his cradle. My 1 year old baby is also a mystic. He can dodge swords.

This prevents me from doing baby-rp. Going to have to say no.

I guess i'll speak from experience since i'm rn playing a kid character properly for the first time.
Playing a kid called Witold who's aiming to be a Knight.(shameless plug - another post coming out soon of his adventures)

I've had a lot of fun on him & met a lot of other child chars. I was asked to make him 7 instead of 5 when i started & i have turned back time like 2 years since i was busy for awhile IRL. He's rn 13, barely had weapons training, got tricked by a darkspawn & LOST to rat people.

I think a big issue is that usually there's not a lot of kid characters around - i've been lucky enough to meet like 10. It's been fun & sure it's a bit memey time to time, it's ******* kids. They're goofy.

I don't think 'kid genius' characters are as big of an issue - it's honestly whatever & sometimes kind of funny. You can dismiss it if it really bothers you. be an evil adult.

The child-soldiers running around, killing demons and taking part of tournaments is a lot more weird for me.
I've seen so many 8 to 11 yrs olds winning or almost winning tourneys because they're played by a good PVPer.

So i guess i'm kind of 50/50 on it.
Maybe raise the age to like 8. Gives you 2 months to figure out what char u wanna be & gives you 2 months of solid child-hood RP.
(we all know you're going to play the same character anyway.)
