The Passing of Autumn

A few years have passed since the missive had been sent throughout the continent. The now Archduke, Albéric Ètienne, would occasionally gaze upon the missive whenever he sat alone. He had not seen his father in some time. At times he wished he was at his side, offering him counsel.

During council meetings, he'd instinctively look over towards the seat beside him... only to notice he was never there. At times, he would find himself roaming the palace alone. His body would take him to his childhood room, only to regain consciousness and remember the Archduke had a room of his own.

As he sat at his study, reading the missive once more, his golden circlet laid just beside him. The circlet was not quite like his father's. It was a simple band of gold, lacking the red and black gems that adorned that of it's predecessor. He closed his eyes for a moment. Minutes had passed, perhaps even hours. But, once Albéric awoke, the setting sun creeped through the nearby window... and a thin band of light highlighted the tail-end of the missive across his desk;

Thus, in the year 222 A.R.P I, Prince Joseph Antonius Aurèle Temesch of the Petra, Archduke of the Petran Commonwealth and Prince of Riviènse pass forth the titles of Archduke of the Petran Commonwealth, Prince of Riviènse and all associated titles of the Throne of Saint Emma to my son, Prince Alberic Étienne Temesch of the Petra, Count of Valfleur.

It was unknown whether Owyn had purposefully highlighted this section, at that particular moment, on that very day. But, one thing is true; Alberic understood that it was his duty to continue onward. For Temesch, and for the Petra. He knew he'd see his father again one day...

Until that day, Albéric would carry the burden of leadership, and everything that came with it.

Within the City sat a lone elf, cast in that faux sunlight of his sword
"Damn it all, now I know why I haven't been able to find him about my PAY!"
Shouts out Taurel, that crazed Xannite bannerman

Even with all the decades that had passed and the marks each had left on one another does a once-Knight smile some at the paper as it comes to rest in his hands
"Ich have seen der Haus of Petra take many faces, but ich do think this has been mein favorite one"
Is all the words Artair can say of his old friend.
"Let us see what this new face brings"

Sat atop some crates nearby, a younger once-Knight leans forward to peer over Artair's shoulder.

Arth thus offers the man a wide grin, glad for his friend's retirement.

A quiet cheer echoes.

On a lab sat the old Duke of Vissingren as he read the notice while finishing the details of a animii eye. As he was setting the lenses, he read the first part, noticing the part of his conversation "Ich am happy du took mein words to ihr heart." He nodded as he set the lenses aside, reading the notice as it piqued his interest. "Du did gutte. Ich remember vhen du vere just ein boy, ze one zhat took charge vhen hope seemed lost. Du vere ze one to call for our people to unite und stand strong as one." He chuckled, remembering the old temporary castle Idunia offered for the Petrans to stay while they planned the counterattack on the chain enemies. "Und zhat we did under ihr command, but now das time du rest Archduke. Let zhe fruits of ze tree zhat du once planted bring new colors to Petra."

A letter is sent from Tomasz van ve Karoswald, Lord Chancellor of the Commonwealth (though more importantly for this matter, the father-in-law of the former Archduke), to Joseph, wherever he may be.

Spoiler

To Joseph Aurèle,

My boy. I cannot express how infinitely well I believe you have served as Archduke of the Commonwealth. I know I have expressed this sentiment to you before, but I do think it goes without saying that I am eternally grateful to have been able to serve you as Lord Chancellor. All mine failures in that regard are mine, and mine alone. I shall aspire to do better for Albéric, so long as my body, mind, and most importantly he, allow.

I remember well the day that you asked to for my permission to be with my daughter. Such was an incredible joy to me to hear, we had come to Petra as refugees, abandoned by the Edlervik, and it is thanks to the efforts of you, your father, Mattea, and so many others that we managed to create a home for ourselves in the Commonwealth. I am most glad that I chose to accept your pleas. One ought not to stand in the way of love, don't you think? Well, lest it is a Daemon situation. Goodness me. Anyhow! I remember you asking made me ponder if perhaps I had time left to find such love again, of course, I have yet to, perhaps such was just not me. Regardless, I am so ever glad for that family that you and my Magdalena have given me, I am quite so fond of mine grandchildren, and I thank you for them most immensely. I hope to endure even to see your grandchildren, and I do hope that you shall see them too.

I must ask that you take good care of my Magdalena, wherever the road shall take you.

P.S. I visited the city of Haelun'or recently. Yes, they've a new one, I do not know if you know. I have been thinking of becoming a mali'aheral, you know. I have the looks for it. I am still quite youthful in appearance. Perhaps you shall find me there one day, it is called Taliyu'lin. There is a wonderful tree in the square. Ay'Larihei!

Tomasz van ve Karoswald,
with love.
