The Spirit Council

After a lengthy discussion in TS we have finally made a decision regarding all the variation within Shamanism: Everyone is correct. Shaman lore is going to be deliberately left open. The only concrete lore is that the spirits are divided into 3 groups: The Elementals of the Physical Realm, The Immortal Spirits that give life to emotion and culture, and The Ancestors who travel the Sacred Lands and are souls of the fallen. After that, we have a "To each man his own" approach. Every teacher interprets Shamanism in his or her own way. Lex may teach that Fire and Lightning are elements of the real world where I may teach that they are the tools of Wrath.

Because of this approach, there we will be forming The Spirit Council. This will be a council made up of all the Shamans who are able to take on apprentices (those who have passed the rank of journeyman). These Shaman will meet on a regular basis to discuss their different teachings and individual beliefs. A sort of pow-wow of the masters. This will make sure we all understand what each other are doing and have a well rounded view point of each other.

The Spirit Council will also oversee the advancement of other shaman. As Shaman progress through the ranks they will be watched over and criticized by the Spirit Council. When they finally reach the point where they are looking to advance beyond Journeyman and into the Spirit Council, the council will convene to review him. The shaman who trained him will present all of the training this journeyman has received why he believes that he is ready to join the council. The other shaman will then interrogate, poke, prod and test the candidate to their hearts content. Once every member of the council is satisfied with their testing, the council will convene in private to discuss, meditate on, and finally vote over the candidate. A majority vote will bring the candidate into the council, anything less will mean that the journeyman start his journey again (As if he was only just newly made a Journeyman, so that he can't just try again the next day).

This will be the only aspect of Orcish culture where disputes and decisions are made on a democratic level rather than a strictly strength based level.

Apprentices: Ned'Lud, Mira

Shaman who are training under a master. They are learning the fundamental basics of shamanism and then gaining training and perspective based on who their master is (remember each shaman will have a unique approach and way of explaining things so they will pass that belief down on their apprentices)

Journeyman:

The standard rank of all shaman. These are shaman who preform shaman duties (a healer goes forth and cures, ect.)

Elders: Draygo, Blawharag, Krogath

These are shaman who have delved deep into their arts and mastered them. These shaman are on the council and are able to take apprentices.

Motsham: Krink, Nel'thok, Lex, Mogroka

An honorary rank to signify those who have been Shaman longer than their peers. Lex, Nel'thok and Krink (should he ever return).

We will also be simplifying the ranking system as follows:

Apprentices:

Shaman who are training under a master. They are learning the fundamental basics of shamanism and then gaining training and perspective based on who their master is (remember each shaman will have a unique approach and way of explaining things so they will pass that belief down on their apprentices)

Journeyman:

The standard rank of all shaman. These are shaman who preform shaman duties (a healer goes forth and cures, ect.)

Elders:

These are shaman who have delved deep into their arts and mastered them. These shaman are on the council and are able to take apprentices.

Motsham:

An honorary rank to signify those who have been Shaman longer than their peers. Lex, Nel'thok and Krink (should he ever return).

The Mages Guild realise our similarities and would like to propose an alliance with The Spirit Council. We would apprecciate a give and take relationship as both groups could benefit from the other.

((This is very cool, glad to see it forming up. We needed something like this, as shaman were few and most of the top dogs were hiatused and the rest conflicted on their teachings. I've been an apprentice for at least a real-life month now and glad to finally learn Mogroka was taking on some training.))

Ned Lud'Gorkil lumbers by as the elders are discussing various aspects of their beliefs and practices, with huddled discretion.

"Me am Journeyuruk now, if Goj wills it, let it be known. Me go on pilgrimage soon, ahg me await further wisdom ob da Elders ahg Motsham. Ungtil den, me walk path ob spirits alone to gain der strength ahg wisdom. Apprentice Mira am long flat, need be taken off dat list. Elder Krink ahg Nel'thok, dey go on long hunt. Der am nub many us left, which mean der am many work more to do if we am to carry da ancient ways ob our ancestor ahg spiritz ahg uphold da old wayz ob da uruk."

The grizzled old warrior shaman glares off pensively towards the horizon with a grunt and a nod of silent resolution, breathing in a chestful of the warm air before exhaling one final comment before lumbering off.

"Storm am coming."

The skulls clatter at his hips as he trods off, humming an old war chant to himself.
