The final fall of Cataris conDoin

I could tell something was wrong this day...I began traveling South from Al'Khazar on habit. Then I felt Cataris' voice enter my head. "I'm going to the Whispering Isle to deal with Alethion once and for all. Do not interfere." Something about his words, the way he convened them to me maybe almost told me what was to come...it felt like he was going to his end. He was someone I felt great respect for, as a friend I would stop him, but we weren't friends, we were partners, an undead and a mortal, that was all. So I decided not to interfere as he asked, but I was ahead of him, so I decided to just watch.

I came into the middle of a bunch of yelling at the Whispering Orders barraks, as usual, the games he played with them were taking their toll. I came to the door and did not force my way in and said to Annora "I'm not here to stop this, only to oversee it." She seemed confused, and obviously surprised by my sudden arrival in a non-hostile way. She allowed me inside where I took a seat nearby, relaxing as I did so, there were no fights ahead of me, only to witness an end. Some time later lightning resonated nearby, he was here, it was time.

They all started yelling things, the usual generic things, "undead" yadda yadda. I simply waited a moment and said "...Good luck." Some time passed, they grabbed armor and weapons, some stared at me for moments so I waved my hand a bit reminding them "As I said before, only here to oversee. I was told not to interfere." I listened to the yelling for longer and the lightning resounding in the distance. I shook my head at it, telling that even this wouldn't just be an end for him, possibly something in me too. I began coughing a bit, this weakness in my body continuing to tear at me. I looked to the side a bit continuing to listen to the lightning and deciding I should be seeing his end.

I got up and followed the lightning to see them fighting on a building and climbed up onto a nearby one to see the battle happening. Others charged at Cataris and he had to bring down lightning in order to push them back, but he was also hit by it causing himself to catch fire. He jumped off the building into the fire and got into the altar area where they continued to fight, he and Alethion. He prepared a spell to finally end Alethion, a blast of lightning so strong they would all die, but Annora shot an arrow straight for his staff, piercing the wood, snapping it in half, the spell going haywire, killing them both. The instant it happened I felt something in my mind snap painfully, our mental bond was severed, the Whispering Order being freed of this suffering that he had brought about them, but at a strong cost. They had all been hurt in one way or another by him in permanent ways, and now a close friend of theirs claimed.

They were unsure of if it was over, I decided there was no reason to hide it. I sighed and said "He's fallen." More yelling continued, it was a bit much on them, their dear friends corpse burning which they were mourning, and the fall of the one who brought them all this suffering, which they would want to celebrate. It was strange...I felt that...it was almost wrong for me to not feel bad, that I should feel guilt, maybe I was changing again along with the world around me. I decided to leave after my old friend Thral'Mar whispered some things to me asking if I was at all involved in planning this. I told him no, but...something he said to me...it almost felt painful to hear. He whispered to me "Why else would you be here? You mark a sign of death." As I stood up to leave, I felt dizzy, almost fell over even. I dazed out for a moment staring at the sky and after a few moments began coughing, this time my coughing worse. This was his end, the fall of Cataris conDoin.

OOC: Cataris has decided he doesn't really want to be undead anymore and that he doesn't exactly have the time for the main server while working on the new map. He has also missed playing as his Dwarf character and gone back to him. Along with that, this forum post is for IC posts of our own point of views of the events that led to his end. I would also say it would be nice for us to voice how much fun we had with the RP involving the Whispering Order and Cataris terrorizing them and tearing apart their normal lives. I strongly enjoyed my time working with Cataris, it was honestly some of the more enjoyable times Ive had on this server. The Whispering Order were VERY good sports about the rp being and enjoying their time with it. I really had fun with all this chaos, doing kidnapping, teaching a kid how to kill, and assisting Alethion in attacking his friends. I really did find their rp to be good, and their attitudes even better oocly. I really had fun with this series of rp.

Cataris likes to play games. His first game was sick. He deceived me... He tried to ruin the Whispering Isles' Militia by using their very General. I had nearly killed my own wife by seeing her as an undead. My whole world was turned upside down. Undead became Ascended, Ascended became Undead. Orcs became Halflings and my best friends became traitors. After a few weeks, Rhisereld had broken the chain between Cataris and my mind. Shortly afterwards, he brought himself to me. He said it was not over. I cut my sword through his dark robes as I told him otherwise. Suddenly, I was left with a curse.

Cataris was the most clever Undead I had ever faced. He knew not only how to destroy with force, but with intelligence... with trickery. He knew how to damage lives and leave relationships in ruins.

I like to call it the "Cataris Curse". It was a literal tug-of-war between The curse and my mind, over my body and mind. Though over the years I have been practicing in immunity to undead taint, this was nothing like I had ever felt before. I felt I could not do evil directly, and I fought against it...

But I did things to a little halfling girl, that will forever scar both of us. Including Rhisereld's and my marriage. Everything went into chaos. The Whispering Order was falling apart because of actions I could simply not control. Not until I found the cure for it, the physical and emotional touch of Rhisereld, did the curse leave my body and fled to another's, Barry Johnson of the Whispering Order.

Thinking they were my last words, I bid Rhisereld farewell. Shortly after, I confronted, and fought Cataris on the rooftop of the Hollow Peach Inn. I thought my time neared it's end, but I was mistaken. Annora spared her life for everyone's in the Order. I miss Annora very much. If she wanted anything, it was for the madness to end. Well, it did. Everything became peaceful when Cataris died.

Dear Cataris, I won't miss you any more than I miss Natheus, Crowe, or Ar'kelos. You were the most clever of them all. The Whispering Order General bids you well done and a farewell.

I thought Cataris died by being drunk and falling off his balcony. I wonder how that would be possible if he tried that as undead...

I remember the first time I met Cataris. He had come to the guild I was serving in, (At the same time as Gaius was serving in the guild, interestingly), to stay in a Mages Guildhouse there. He was a well-spoken young man, who believed strongly in the good and the determination of men.

But, I remember the last time I saw him as well. Holding a wicked staff high and bringing terror and agony down upon the innocent defending Laurelin. I remember staring into his bleak, inhuman face; devoid of any remorse or regret as he murdered those who fleed.

*Fust returns to the Whispering Isles, back to where Cataris met his end. He sees the debris and burns where he casted that final, destructive spell. Something glints among the burnt wood and cracked stone: a shard of gold. It buzzed slightly, nestled in the palm of his hand. He stared at it for a moment, then pocketed it in his jacket. Turning to face the setting sun he began to march back to Al'Khazar.*

((One of the best RPers the Undead has had, and your presence in our ranks will be sorely missed. One of the more competent Undead that we have had that I never once heard a bad word about, I wish you good luck with your future endeavors on the server, Cataris))

((Just a small note since it wasn't really stated, but for my bro Cataris, I went back and got his ashes in an urn and his iron crown hanging atop it. I should get some fanart with that...))

[[Well I was suppose to take part in the rp for Cataris's death by keeping him alive to say his last words but I guess not :ugeek:

*touches his forehead with two fingers, a sign of respect, tossed a Gold Coin, and turns to leave silently, as the wind blows behind him, howling through the bleak and damp night, wishing his ashes to never fade from the wretched world.

(( You had better used that staff I gave you.

Anyways, I believe Darth Vader would be saying, " NOOOOOOOOOOOOO~! ", right now.))
