Dio Astóre 69 Share Posted December 18, 2011 What had begun as a simple satiation of curiousity would eventually bring mine person among scenes of perfect madness; absence of reason, hearts that burned with violent flames and pulsed blood that would stain earth and stone and snow. Like such stained purity would Alras see itself be brought to, carried there by minds that prefer keen edges to keen minds, and power opposed to harmony. Lonesome I travelled as an envoy; to the Sunless City, to represent myself as a part of Malinor which wished to offer what could be offered; our wisdom, our strength. Not our might of arms; it's inverse; our peace and our calm. The Great City Beneath the Earth lay empty. Hollow halls and desolate places. A place for ghosts and forgotten things; such sensation brought the dense air of the mountains belly. Kal'Urguan knew neither cheer nor laughter that day. Gravely did the realisation dawn, that once the march had begun - as I had hoped to prevent - it would not end... Alras is shut. As are minds to the notion of peaceful resolution. Yet flesh is open, and openly is it voiced that this be desired too. Differentiated is nobody from foe; neither man nor woman receive mercy, and it is upon failing to alter the proceeding circumstances that I send word to my fellow Elves. Soon I find myself among my people, to the West of Alras' Gate, and inquire briefly of how we are to proceed. A venture is made to enter Alras through a side passage that one was privy to, and I join to follow him. After a lengthy search and an eccentric encounter, the path is found and we swiftly move through the city streets. The garrison at the gate having already dispersed, haste is made to reach the Keep, and there do we behold the assualt. Battle orders, rally calls, curses. Armour clings, the air hisses as arrows soar through the air, hate and pain for all to share. Briefly after, a letter arrives, enlightening me to one important detail: that Malinor has no part in this affair. I look up from the script, to my one companion; to the soldiers. My decision was made. Paying no heed to the parchments words, I draw a deep breath, and voice my intent. Not idly shall I abide Men and Dwarves offering their lives to such a cause. If they commit to this path, then so shall it be; but there is yet something that I could do for these warriors. Announcing the neutrality of the Elves - despite there be only two within my sight, including myself - I offered what meager aid I could as a healer for the injured. Inquiries for the King were fruitless. The Sons of Urguan steadily advanced. Why had they come? But two words stood out among the inane speech of the battlefield: Ascended. Pieces. The voice also spoke of corruption, which was not the first I had heard this from; recalling the peculiar individual that helped us to enter Alras. That was not important now. What has important was - indeed still this: life. And so did the days continue for some time: with bloodshed and confusion. Malinor could have done more. Should have done more. Are we so selfish as to keep the blessing our people received to ourselves? We live long and prosper as individuals. Why not they? Thus do I ask.

Alras is at war with Kal'Urguan (City below the Earth) and whatever Oren calls themself now (I think The Sunless City then) are at war with Alras, because of reasons I do not know)) ((OOC: To clarify; the two titles I presented both referred to Kal'Urguan. Using adjectives in place of nouns is a little idiosyncracy that has been developing for me, primarly because of my re-reading an Inheritance book and because of the way the Ancient Elvish language is structured. And a simple thank you for the compliments too.)) Aye lad, a was their. There shall always be those of Malinor that will strive to uphold the bond shared by the Four Brothers, as there shall be those who would seek to instill its inversion. Word of Elven combatants has not reached my ears 'till your mention of it, and such knowledge to be shrouded in ignorance' dark vale brings much unwelcome foreboding upon me. So long as Aegis is filled with hearts to feel and eyes to see, so shall there always be burdens for them. Times of dulled blades and pointed hate; a mighty shield betwixt ourselves and this, and therefrom would we be well and at peace. Not from idle dreams for the future will we see ourselves made strong, but from our cherishing of what should be cherished today, and all the yesterdays past. Cherish the memory of walls throwing laughter off themselves. Of kindled hearths and warm smiles. Of the time where hammers and sharp tips were used for beauty and art; to appeal to a sentimental heart. Of bountiful hunts. Of pure water and fresh meadows. Cherish the memory of when the grandest hope was for a 'morrow, that differs in no way from the 'morrow already past. In memory do we find our true selves. In false ambitions and thoughts that reach too far do we forget ourselves. In remembrance lies the key to avoiding that which we would prefer not remembered.
