"This is teh last time I'm goin' te say this - Runes are nae magic! Magic is fer silly buggers in robes and pointy 'ats! Do ye see a pointy 'at on me head, Lad?"

~~~The Art Of Runesmithing~~~
The Dwarves, as a race, are traditionally disdainful of magic and have learned ways to harness it in a more solid, dependable method. Rather then preform unique acts of magic, Dwarves tend to make items of magical quality. The Dwarves are the greatest and most successful of all races when it comes to making magic items. Indeed, many of the powerful magic weapons used by men and elves were forged by the Dwarves of old. The art of Runesmithing was invented by the Dwarven God Yemekar, and was practiced primarily by Urguan, and his direct children, namely Clan-Fathers Gotrek Starbreaker, Dwain Irongut, and the Clan-Father of the Frostbeards. After many centuries, the craft has been lost to all but the ancient Forgelord of the Dwarves, Arbrek Starbreaker.
~Runesmiths & Runelords~
A Dwarf who makes magic items is called a Runesmith. As Dwarves rarely have a direct equivalent of a wizard, he is an very important individual. The Runesmiths are the elite of the Smithing Guild, having mastered both arts. The Runesmiths are an ancient brotherhood of craftsmen and have held secret the art of forging magic runes for hundreds of years. Runelords are masters of the Art, they teach the younger Runesmiths, and are the only being capable of creating the more powerful Master Runes. The only Runelord alive today is Forgelord Arbrek Starbreaker.
~Runes~
The Dwarven Language is written in Runes, inscriptions specifically designed to be carved into stone, or engraved into metal. Magic Runes are different to ordinary Runes in shape and in detail, but much of what makes a Rune magical is how, where, and when it is forged. Magic Runes trap magical power - their presence binds and holds magic as a nail holds two pieces of wood. Most simple Dwarf Runes can entrap small amounts of magic if forged correctly, but only the far more powerful magic Runes can hold greater power. These runes are known as Master Runes, and can only be inscribed or invented by Runelords, and such Runes hold untold amounts of power.
~The Creation of Runes~
Runesmithing his an art passed down from generation to generation, and is a secret brought to the grave. The Art involves calling upon the Gods, the Forging of the item, and the Inscribing of the Rune to name but a few of the steps. ((Basically, if you want to learn how to make runes, ask me IG.))
~The Consquences of Runesmithing~
While the Art of Runesmithing is much safer then any other kind of Magic, it is still dangerous at times. When forging the Rune, a tiny piece of the soon-to-be user's Soul. This dilutes the pure magic, and bonds the item to it's user. On the other hand, should one exert a Rune too much, the Runes have a tiny chance of causing a catastrophic explosion, rather then just cracking and being rendered useless. During the creation of the Rune itself, it Is commonplace for a Runesmith to be injured due to faulty tools such as a normal Anvil, or the Smith making a mistake. These instances are almost always fatal.
~~~The Runes~~~

~The Rune of Speed~

This Rune enhances the user's awareness, allowing them to be quicker in combat.

~The Rune of Luck~

First inscribed on a ring used by Dwarven Prince Magnund Hammerhand, who then went on to procure a fortune in gambling and mining.

~Rune of Sight~

When inscribed on a helm, or in some cases an eye or glasses, this Rune allows the user near-perfect sight under all conditions, allowing them to see in the dark, zoom in and out, and much more.

~Rune of Flight~

Used by Runesmiths of old to return arrows and throwing axes back to their person, this Rune has since evolved to suit a number of purposes.

~~The Master Rune Of Kingship~~

Runelord Gotrek Starbreaker was the first great Dwarven Lord to have his Crown adorned with this Rune. Such a crown is a priceless artifact and the loss of one is dearly mourned as it absorbs the knowledge and skill of it's former master, and passes it on to it's next bearer.

~~The Master Rune of Preservation~~

When Lord Valkan Firehand was killed by an assassin's blade in the Battle of Hunger Wood, many Runesmiths and Armourers were alarmed at this apparent weakness in Dwarven armour. The solution was found by a Runelord of the Irongut Clan, and his answer was to use Runes to protect areas where the armour could not be made any thicker. This Rune is often used by Generals to protect themselves form assassins and the like.

~~The Master Rune of Smiting~~

Invented by a renowned Runelord and Warrior of the Frostbeard Clan, this Rune is famed for being able to smash an enemies weapon with the slight touch from one's own. The Rune was used famously in the War Against Iblees, smashing one of the Dark God's most skilled general's sword, allowing him to be sent back to the Nether by the brave Runelord.

~~The Master Rune of Spellbreaking~~

Invented by the ancient Forgelord of the Dwarves, Arbrek Starbreaker, this Rune was forged first after many centuries of research into the Art and is still experimental, Arbrek wants to give it a few centuries to make sure it's safe, and is currently only engraved on his Warhammer, Doombringer. The Rune is used to deadly effect against Mages of all kinds. Smashing their spell from midair, and destroying it instantly. The Rune has a small chance of turning the Spell back upon it's caster, but that is very Rare.

~~~List of Existing Rune Items~~~
~~The Crown Of Gotrek~~
One of the most ancient examples of Runic Items is the Crown Of Gotrek. Forged by the great Runelord centuries ago, it holds several powerful Runes, such as the Master Rune of Kingship, the Master Rune of Preservation, the Rune of Flight, and the Rune of Fire. The Crown is currently owned by Runelord, and Arch-Thane Arbrek Starbreaker.
~~Doombringer~~
Another ancient example of Runes and weapon making is the immensely powerful Doombringer. A massive Warhammer, it was also forged by the Runelord Gotrek Starbreaker for his personal use. The Weapon is know to carry the Rune of Flight, Master Rune of Spellbreaking, and Master Rune of Smithing. It is also in the possession of Runelord Arbrek Starbreaker.
~~The Great Sword~~
An ancient Dwarven Relic of a bygone age, not much is know about the sword due to it's lack of study by a Runelord. It is surmised from tales of it's use in battle to have the Runes of Smiting and Fire, however.
~~Flamewrought~~
A suit of Rune Armour forged for the Ireheart Clan by he ancient Runelord Arbrek Starbreaker. It is forged with fire and battle scenes covering the piece, as a work or art. It carries the Master Rune of Preservation, Sight, and an experiment Rune Arbrek has been developing.
((I'm pretty sure that you need to get the knowledge from Arbrek or from the other smiths that he taught.))
THIS IS ALL OOC AND JUST MY IDEAS NOT THE WAY IT HAS TO BE DONE:
Lvl 10 – 800 points
Now, let me explain what the above means. That chart shows the progression of gaining skill in Runesmithing. You start at level 0 and then gain points to reach the next level. After each level your points are reset and you have to gain another amount to reach the next level. After you gain a level you have to wait a certain period of time before you can gain more points. So, if I'm level 0 I have to get 100 points to get level 1. After you reach level one your points go back to 0 and you have to wait one day before you can get the now 150 points required for level 2.
Now, there are some prerequisites to learning Runesmithing. One, I recommend being a Dwarf though this is not required to my knowledge. Two, you have to be Level 100 in Blacksmithing. And three, you have to be introduced to it by a Runesmith level 6 or higher. But, you may be wondering "How do I get Points?" and "Who are the smiths who can introduce me?" Well, these will be answered in the next sections. This method will help make becoming a master Runesmith a hard process taking at the very least 3 weeks and a total of 4000 points to become a Master
How to Gain Points
To gain points you have to do a number of things. Start smelting cobble, iron, or gold, OR make fire charges and then RP in emotes things like *begins to form the runestone* etc. Be creative. To help you know how many points doing each gets you I have another wee chart.
Smelting 4 Cobble – 1 Point | Full Stack – 16 points
Smelting 1 Iron Ore – 1 Point | Full Stack – 64 points
Smelting 1 Gold Ore – 10 points | Full Stack – 640 points
Making 1 Fire Charge – 5 points(Lvls 1-5) 10 points(Lvls 6-10) | Full Stack – 320/640 Points
Known Runesmiths
This section is just so you can know which people are actually Runesmiths in Asulon and know what level they are.
Arbrek Starbreaker ((zac20169)) – Level 10
How to Avoid Powergaming
To avoid Powergaming do not RP any combat runes. When smithing you can RP things like *puts a enchanted edge on the sword's edge with the rune* and then just RP that the sword never breaks when OOCly you just repair it all the time. IF you absolutely cannot stay away from combat then use Firecharges as "Lesser Fire Runes" and a Flint and Steel as a "Greater Fire Rune". However, I recommend you just stay away from combat with Runes as often people will complain and Runes will no longer be something to bring fun RP.
Application?
So if it's decided that Runesmithing should have an Application, here is one I've come up with.
MC Name:
RP Name:
Race:
Blacksmith Level:
Bio (At least 5 sentences):
(Include which smith introduced you and other relevant info)
PLEASE NOTE: This is a WIP post which I plan to add more to at later times when I have more ideas to help.
