Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: Jerrybomb777

How old are you?: 16, turning 17 in October

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: My country of residence is Canada. My Timezone is Mountain Standard Time (7:00 GMT)

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: This is my one and only language, so yes.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I’m a happy, easy-going Canadian that enjoys friends, family, food and video games. I also like getting outdoors and doing some camping, hiking, canoeing, skiing, etc. Role-playing games are one of my more preferred genres of both video games and tabletop games.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Depending on how work and school go, between 2-6 hours a week, possibly more.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is taking on the persona of a fictional character, and making choices and decisions as if you were that character. The action you perform are based on what your character would know, not what you as a player know.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have played a few online roleplaying games for almost a year now, most notably the online game Space Station 13. I also have some experience in traditional roleplaying games, such as Dungeons and Dragons.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-gaming is getting information which should not be known to your player character (for instance, where an enemy player is located), and then acting on this information to your character’s advantage. This is often done by communicating with others via Skype or other voice communication software.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power-gaming is when a player drives towards a specific goal in-game, while disregarding elements of roleplaying and their character’s personality. Power-gaming players can be described as “Play to win”, and want to be better than anyone else in what they are trying to accomplish.

What do you expect this server will be like?: I expect this server to be an immersive and entertaining Minecraft world, where I can explore a variety of player-created kingdoms and environments. I would also expect a lot of interesting and unique Minecraft experiences, and a rich player-driven backstory.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: The server I have played on previously is Minelife. I chose to left because it had become uninteresting, inactive, and many other people had already left.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes, I have read, understood and agreed to the rules of this server.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Yes, I will follow all rules and laws that apply to me.

How did you hear about us?: I heard about this server from a player on the Minecraft server I formerly played on (Player named Bigalow).

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?: Yes, I am vote #4,243.

In-Character:

Character Name: Dyrden Helmos

What Race are you?: Elven

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Wood Elf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Dyrden Helmos was brought up within the woods of Malinor. He is the only child of Hynden Helmos, a Wood Elf hunter, and Aleala Pyroc, a High Elf and former Elven Council member. From a young age, Dyrden was taught by his father to hunt, fish and trap the wildlife of the forest. He was also taught that, if he respects the forest, and takes from it only what he needs, the forest will respect him as well. His mother taught him everything she could about Elven history, including small parts of the old, and illegal Elven language. When he came of adult age, he set out to explore his kingdom, and collect interesting tales and stories of the realm to share with his kinsmen back home.

Dyrden is 130 years old, stands 5’8, and weighs 150 lbs. He has short blond hair, pointed ears and wears a dark green hood. Dyrden is used to working alone, though he does not distrust others, and will offer help if needed. Although Dyrden thinks very highly of himself, he tries to be very modest when around others, never bragging about his accomplishments. Dyrden is not very politically-minded, and cares more about health and happiness then kings and nobles.

Dyrden, like most Wood Elves, have a deep hatred for the Mori’Quessir, whom he sees as an inferior race of Elf. Dyrden has far more respect for the other Elven races, especially the High Elves. He is accepting of most other races, though is cautious of Dwarves and distrusting of Orcs.

What is your Character's ambitions?: Dyrden wants to become one of the greatest marksmen in all of Asulon, and see as much of his glorious world as he can. He also wants to join the Rangers of the Forest, in order to improve his skills and protect his homeland. Finally, Dyrden wishes to be more accepting and understanding of other people, and learn more about the diverse cultures of the land.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): Dyrden is never far from his trusty bow, his most loyal companion. His hunting bow has been passed down from father to son in his family for countless generations. With it, he can hunt forest animals with ease for the sustenance he requires.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Dyrden is a natural-born outdoorsman, and is proficient in hunting and tracking. He specializes in small game, but is not afraid to hunt down the larger creatures that inhabit the forests of Malinor. These skills make him an excellent scout and marksman in combat, though he will try to avoid hand-to-hand combat unless absolutely necessary.

Other Information about your Character: Dyrden enjoys a thick glass of Roseglow Wine after a long day of hunting.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Dyrden quickly draws an arrow, and fires it over the head of one of the warriors. If this warning does not get the thieves’ attention, he fires a second shot, this time a kill shot. Should the warriors charge at Dyrden instead of fleeing, he would fire a third and final shot before drawing his sword and fighting off the thieves. Since he does not excel at swordsmanship, Dyrden's hope would be that either the thieves realize that this fighting is not worth the effort and flee, or that his marksmanship have left them too wounded to cause any more harm. Whatever the case, the halfling is thankful for the help, and offers Dyrden half of the Minas the thieves were trying to steal. Dyrden thankfully takes a quarter of what is offered, bids the halfling safe travels, and wanders off.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? “Hello! Don’t suppose you’d have any hunting gear, would you?” Dyrden would only rarely be interested in shopping, and his main interests would be in purchasing arrows, bows, and any other equipment he would otherwise be unable to make himself. The merchant smiles “Aye, ye’ must be an archer, I take it? Well I have just the bow for you!” The man rummages though a blue cloth bag for a moment before pulling out a smoothed, yew-wood compact bow. “This ‘er might interest ‘ya. Finest Elv’n craftsmanship. Carv’d to perfect’n. Smooth’d with sandstone and harden’d with tree sap. Detailed with gold n’gravings.”

“No thanks.” Dyrden kindly refuses, glancing at the bow strung behind his shoulder, passed down his family tree for many generations. He finally looks back up and says casually “a few iron-tipped arrows will do fine for me.” The merchant goes through the same bag, pulling out a handful of notched and feathered arrows. Dyrden hands the man a small bag of midas and strolls off into the noisy, crowded market square.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Since Dyrden has no interest in wealth beyond what is needed for survival, he leaves what he finds in the cabin. However, he does examine the sword, looking for any tell-tale signs of enchantments or engravings. He also wonders what the sword was doing in such a remote place. “Who owns this cabin?” Dyrden thinks to himself, “An old war hero? A collector? a thief? A peasant with a very valuable heirloom?” While pondering to himself, he hears a crack of a branch in the forests nearby. Fearing the return of the cabin’s owner, Dyrden quickly ducks out the door and into The Wilds.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Dyrden, hungry and tired from days spent lost in the wilderness, stumbles upon a trading camp. "Welcome to our camp!" One of the inhabitants greets Dyrden, "have you come here to trade?"

"I've come seeking a meal," Dyrden replies, "and perhaps a warm bed."

"Both can be provided for, master Elf, assuming you have the means to afford it." An unsettling smile as grown on the trader's face. Dyrden has become suspicious of his intentions, but is desperate for food and shelter. He trades the man a handful of minas and the last of his wild sheep pelts for a bowl of stew, a mug of ale and one of the unoccupied tents. After his well-needed meal, Dyrden retires to his tent for the night. Before going to bed, he takes the last of his Minas and places them in his hand under his pillow. He also takes out his sword, and places it unsheathed beside him. Dyrden has had suspicions of this place, and the intentions of its occupants from the moment he stumbled upon this camp. He can only sleep, and hope that his suspicions prove false.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: As part of his ambition to be more accepting of others, Dyrden would offer to aid the town guard in eliminating the bandit threat. The reward would be a useful aid to purchase hunting good (and perhaps a cold drink), though would not be the motivation for assisting the town. As far as the actual fight with the bandits, Dyrden would act as a forward scout for the town guard, and would also provide ranged support for the fighting. If any of the guards were found injured after the fighting ended, Dyrden would do his best to provide immediate aid to their wounds with what herbal knowledge he has.
