The Asulon Improvement Committee

"Campaigning for a Brighter Future"

Notice: Only AIC candidates should reply here. All other posts will be deleted.

Note: Voting will commence once everyone has posted a campaign.

The votes are in and everything is set. The voices of Asulon have been heard and the road is finally paved. Today, we congregate and prove their worth to Asulon. I ask of all potential committee members to post their prepared campaigns here as a reply to this topic.

Again, I must stress the fact that favourism is always present. I sincerely beg for the people to choose who you believe is capable of helping the server. I do not wish for trolls and comedians to judge our future. Just because they are great friends of yours or accomplices of your said character, doesn't mean they can or will address the server's many problems. Vote for the most capable person, not your friends or family. Take these words into mind.

TL;DR: Vote for capable individuals. For AIC candidates, post your campaigns below.

Hello everyone! I’m Alan, and I am hoping that I will get a seat in the Asulon Improvement Committee. However, I shouldn't have to prove to you all why I am fit for the position in a few simple paragraphs. I believe that I and the other members trying to get the position have been proving ourselves for months. If I have already proven myself worthy to you, then I would really love your consideration of me being on the AIC. If I haven't, then I'm doing something wrong and I don't deserve your vote. The purpose of this voting session is to find the best possible members for the position, so self-advertising seems against the point, if I don’t get the position so be it. Good luck to the other potential AIC members, I hope that we will soon be working together.

Well hello merry men and women of Asulon!

I have been told to write this post, a campaign of sorts, to, and I quote, ‘Plea for your votes’ I am going to try to do that in the best possible way here, and I hope that after you read this, you vote for me and understand that I would be good for the AIC. Many of you may not know me, may not have heard of me. I am a Forum Moderator on LoTC, and do my best everyday to help the community. In every way, shape and form, I try to do my best to help you guys. I try to be the first one to clean up spam, the first one to solve the issues that you are having on the forums. Everyday, I wake up and think, ‘What am I going to do today?’. This is all for you guys, to help you. I am also in the Application Team, or as we like to call it, The A-Team. I control the flow of people who enter this server, along with the team, and do my best to do it efficiently. Now, being in the AIC would only let me help you guys more. It would allow me to get your ideas heard, who doesn’t want a part in this amazing community? I could make that happen for you guys! Any suggestions you may have on improving Asulon in any area of the gameplay, I would be there for you, because, quite frankly, I love you guys.

As I stated, a lot of you may not know me, for one reason or another. And I am sorry for that, I really am. I really want to know all of you guys, I want to become friends with each and everyone of you. It is not because I am looking for fame, it is merely because I love you. All of you. Each of you has your own special way of being absolutely awesome, and that awesomeness needs to be heard, that awesomeness needs to be seen by the Admins and such. Asulon needs your awesome, my friends, and if I were to get in the AIC, I would allow you to give it to this amazing world we have. The AIC is here to improve Asulon, and we cannot do that without your ideas, your input, and, your awesome. I am rambling on a bit now, but really, everyone here deserves to be heard, everyone needs a voice. If I were to be on the AIC, I would get your voices heard. I would get those screams and shouts out there! They would be there for all to see! They would be in our world, you can be part of it!

I would undoubtedly enjoy being in the AIC because of how much I care for you guys, but that cannot be done without votes against my name. That cannot be done without you guys saying, ‘Hyperion deserves this!’ Do I deserve it? That is up for you to decide really. All I know is that everyday I wake up, everyday I come to the forums, to LoTC, and everyday I try to help you. Everyday I try to take workload off of the admins, everyday I try to just be me. And in the AIC, I would be able to help more! I would be able to do more, see more, meet more people, and help more people. I have always said the power is in the player, and it truly is. You guys get to decide who gets in this AIC and who doesn’t, what ideas live and what die. The most important position is the player, and the power is now in your hands.

Before I begin, I'd like to thank those of you that voted for me, I was not expecting to make it past the nominations. To be honest, the only reason I was prompted to allow myself to be nominated in the first place was because of the departure of susitsu from both the AIC and the server. Seeing how in my eyes, he was the main advocate for villains and their ooc woes, I felt that without a proper representative with experience in the villain community, LoTC would be at a loss.

That's not to say I'm not dedicated to this cause and what we as a community stand to gain. If made a part of the AIC, I, along with the other members, especially those who have issue with the villains of the server or are sympathetic for them, would be vigilant in seeking out problems and attempt to find solutions through the AIC. I would not only try to fix the problems that villains complain of. I seek to help rectify problems that our normal playerbase face with villains in order to create a deeper and more immersive experience for everyone. If you vote for me, know that you are voting for someone that will mostly focus on the obstacles created and faced by our villains.

Hi, everyone. Most of you know me as 'the complainer', some of you are close friends, some are bystanders in the carnage that usually follows my posts. Instead of starting on a cheerful note, I would like to say that my 'complaining', as it is constantly dubbed, is never due to an inner desire, a hunger for attention, or to act out, or to anger others. No, my input, while often negative or upsetting, is always based upon what I think is best for this community. Why wouldn't I want to see this beautiful server become the best that it can be?

However – reconciling with my detractors is not something which I want to focus on here. I would much rather explain why I, the most average of old hats, should be elected as a member of an integral and of course, essential part of the server's machinations.

Lord of the Craft is not a game to me. It's not a place where I log in, train my skills on NPC mobs, level up a bit, go mine, and work toward my own goals. While my view is radically different from the majority of this server, LoC is not a game. Roleplay is not something to be played. The world of Asulon is a story – a beautiful, amazing, dynamic tale in which nothing, nothing should be restricted. Anything can happen in this story. Anything at all.

This is precisely why I'm nearly always against plugins, levels, stats, commands, and the like. Why ever restrict the story with a system, when one could allow it to blossom into something so much more boundless and incredible? Combat through clicking, or combat through a series of descriptive, intriguing, creative actions, filled with dialogue and surprise and suspense? Magic through commands, plugins, skills, or magic through lines upon lines of deep and graceful writing, all tied together with a beautiful selection of history, lore, and reason behind it? Is roleplay really something that we play? Is LoC a game, or a story?

I cannot express my emotion about this matter fully – it's something which I'm incredibly passionate about. It hurts me whenever a duel is conducted through PvP. It stings when people refer to their character as “I”, when people fail to expound with detail in their emotes, when people play to win. I want to bring this server to something magical – not a Minecraft server. Not a game. But something to be loved, understood, described, added to, subtracted from, improved, perfected.

I 'complain' because I want the most incredible result from LoC. No flaw is too small to be patched up – everything can be improved, even facets which we think are pristine in their quality. This is why I want to be on the Asulon Improvement Committee. I want to help bring Lord of the Craft to perfection.

Dear Lord of the Craft,

I speak to you today, the players, as a fellow player. Being a roleplaying server with a large, strong and dedicated player base, Lord of the Craft’s fate is determined by us, the players. We create our own roleplay, change it based on our desires and mold Asulon to what we want, whether this be for better or worse. The players need to take control of this server once again and proactively seek to better roleplay for ourselves, rather than sit and wait for the staff to do it for us.

If you take a look at the Ideas and Lore and the Asulon Improvement Committee sub-forums, there is an abundance of fantastic ideas that could definitely improve the server drastically, whether on a small or a large scale. However, many feel as if posting these ideas are pointless, since these are rarely implemented, as history has shown. At the heart of it, the AIC serves as a voice for the playerbase, to take these ideas suggested by the players, discuss which ones could be beneficial, refine them and then present it to the staff for (hopefully) implementation. I have a somewhat strong presence in these threads, posting my ideas as well as critiquing others’, trying to encourage others to continue to formulate new ideas and refine their own, striving for the best possible product for the server, in order to better the server.

As a candidate myself, I feel I am qualified for the job. I’m dedicated, as shown by the time I’ve put into the development of Alras’ military and as a nation, as well as the overall amount of time I’ve spent trying to better the server. Despite the majority of my stay on LotC being dedicated to Alras, I find myself unbiased in almost all situations, just today I let AlphaCentaurus come into the Alras War Camp at Salvus and light fire to the tents, while I destroyed them and emoted as “The fire”. I also gave him permissions to chests, allowing him to rob us, and it led to about an hour of fantastic roleplay. I have put Alras in a compromised position several times in order to benefit roleplay, and that’s where my objectivity lies. OOCly, I have no strong attachment to any one part of the server, though I’ve worked with Alras for so long I’d happily give it up if it meant for great roleplay. Ever since I developed into a decent roleplayer and become an aware player, I’ve focused on the roleplay experience for everybody as a whole, rather than just one group.

Despite my character’s (Aislin) seemingly innocent role as Viceroy of Alras, he’s a villain, as well as my alternate character, Father Saithor (a crazy priest who kills people). I spent the majority of my time on this server as a “good samaritan”, playing good characters who did no wrong. Eventually I developed my characters into villains, and have now played each end extensively: good, evil and in between (a very crucial role in roleplay, the morally gray). I’ve played humans, elves, orcs and dwarves, fighters and scholars, villains and heroes, and plain, archetypical characters. My views and experiences are geared towards almost every possible niche on this server, and that is what an AIC member needs to have: objectivity.

I’d like to think that I was nominated not because of my boyish charm and dashing good looks, but because of my competence and love for this server. This server is a work of art, and every single person on it has contributed in making it as beautiful as it is. Even the lowliest of characters, the newest of players, can make a substantial difference in changing LotC (look at pumpkin_eaters, for example). I strive to turn these small, unheard voices into loud, booming roars for all to hear and consider. We have a fantastic staff team and without them we would be lost, but at the same time we have a fantastic playerbase and we are the roleplay experience. Everything about this server is geared towards us, and the marvelous thing is that we have the power to change it however we want. As an AIC member, I will ensure that our vision is clear, concise and has good purpose, and that we can govern our own fate.

Thanks,

Aislin

Addressing the issues with bans...

I had previously made it clear that /some/ nominations will include banned players. I have considered their contributions and decided to allow them to stay through nominations/voting/elections.

Well I am Arche, and needless to say, I am very stoked to be here. About a score of votes and now I am blessed with a fighting chance to be in the improved second Asulon Improvement Committee. Time to bleach the old teeth and dust off my big book of political buzzwords, eh? Not quite.

I am, however, going to brag it up in this post for a bit. In the past I have served as the secretariat for a student society counting about a hundred members. This meant that I, apart from being a fifth of the governing body for over a year, was tasked with the duty of writing minutes of every meeting and explaining everything that was said and decided during our meetings, including how and why. Twice a year, we got to stand up in front of all the active members and justify all our actions, financial and otherwise. All this had to be recorded, which was the part I played. Members demanded a verbatim explanation of our thought process, and though it was intensive work, I was happy to oblige.

Yes, I like transparency. It is true. The last thing I want to be in the AIC is another link in a chain, another organ to put distance between you and progress. The AIC should be about so much more than figureheads you can leave your input with. We should be a glass box, where even from the sidelines you can see clearly what goes in, how it is being processed and what eventually makes it to the people in charge. Yes, you voted for us now, but even as you choose to send us off to serve you in this here committee, you will continue to be aware and happy with the work we put in for you. If you aren’t, then there really isn’t much sense in us doing it, now is there?

It would be tempting to state that voting for me will grant you the dream server you always wanted, where all your wishes are implemented and all your pet peeves tempered. I’d like to, but the truth of the matter is that not all feedback can be readily applied. I think we need to agree as a player base that, while there are certainly things that can be improved, the overall state of the server is rather decent. The next step, then, is making sure the players know that their feedback is being taken into account. We need to show that steps are being taken to make Asulon the best it can be, and why not bless the players with the knowledge of exactly how we are doing this? Instead of the wide strokes of ‘we are improving’, I hope to let you into the finer brushes of the art, what we are doing and why, and how, and respond to every piece of feedback with counter-feedback. The process of the committee is a give-and-take one. You once vouched for us, and now we will vouch for you.

I’d really like to end this monologue with something cheesy. A claim like ‘a vote for me is a vote for yourself’, or something equally tacky. However, my well of one-liners seems to be running dry. Instead, then, I will tip to you my hat and, as I ride off into the setting sun of RP adventures to be had, extend to you the sentiment that together, maybe, we can make the next Asulonian 8-bit sunset just a little bit brighter.

I am absolutely honored to be a part of the final nominees to the Asulon Improvement Committee. I can't tell you all how strange it feels to participate here. I'll get straight into it, though.

I have been on this server for only a few months, and have experienced a large amount of roleplay from all different aspects of Asulonian life. My inexperience on the server makes a new and unswayed perspective available to me. A perspective that is not directly effected by the persuasions and opinions of some of the long-term members here. I do my absolute best to present problems where I see them and present potential solutions to those problems. My flexibility is a great asset of mine, however. I am not absolutely adamant or bent on making my point the only right one. The presentation of an accurate argument that makes obvious the fallacy of my own will easily sway my opinion on a subject; so long as it is grounded on facts and reason. I would also like to implement a petition system for the requested removal of staff members. If a person is disliked by a large percentage of the community, them being a part of the staff will only cause problems.

I have made great efforts to help the player base identify the difference between IC and OOC. I do my best to orchestrate roleplay that everyone can participate in. I will admit that much of the time my in character actions are misinterpreted and I myself am called to blame instead of my character. I sincerely apologize for any distress I have caused anyone out of character; that was never my intention. The facilitation of roleplay through my characters and others is all I wish to give to the server. If we see a problem, we shouldn't continue to depend on the staff to solve them. We can solve them ourselves. My character, Lorethos, saw a problem, and aimed to fix it. He sparked a powder keg. Nearly all of Asulon is at war; and I'm sure many of you have experienced roleplay in regards to this war. While OOC conflicts will always arise (that is only natural when a large change comes about), in the end what we have done is shown those who have difficulty differentiating IC and OOC, and we have facilitated excellent roleplay for the server as a whole. OOC harassment due to IC actions must also be made against the rules. I know many others besides me have experienced it, and it is simply not fair.

As part of the Asulon Improvement Committee, I would do my absolute best to motion for more player control and less GM control. I'm not saying get rid of the rules; I'm just saying that we need to learn to rely on ourselves rather than the GMs for every little thing. The Warclaim System, for example, is in obvious need of revamping. We also need to prevent small ghosttowns from springing up. We can do this with the development of roleplay that will cause the seeking out and destruction of empty towns (such as the ones recently abandoned by Seventis.)

In summary; reduce OOC animosity with anti-harassment rule(s), help differentiate OOC and IC, solve problems ourselves, don't rely on GMs, and get the players more power over their server.

Shields has failed to comply, and I now bring Volutional to the stand. Await his campaign.
