Community Building ~

Hello Asulon!

As some of you know, I have made it my recent interest to begin to work on some "Community Building" tasks. These tasks would be things along the lines of competitions, forum events and TeamSpeak gatherings - etc.

One of the things that attracts people to an online community - is, ironically it's community! If somewhere has a terrible community, they're not gonna stay. If it has a good community, they have more of an inclination to stay.

I really want to see how much we can improve the Lord of the Craft Community, and make us a lot more friendly, helpful and welcoming. Do be aware, that this isn't an 'official' post, more of an inquiring post for me to learn from.

I want to know what you as members would like to see in order for this to happen. These are a few ideas which I actually had:

• 'Festive Forum Events' - forum events during festive / holiday times, e.g. Christmas, Easter, Halloween - I've seen this done on quite a lot of forums, and it's always been successful. It's safe to say, that on Halloween this year - I shall be doing something... special.
• TeamSpeak Events - things along the lines of the Creative Cafe, which Viper's bringing back. These are actually very good for giving us a good OOC night.
• More GM Q&A's - often players do have a lot of questions, but don't know how to ask them. Asking them whilst in a large scale Q&A session with GMs and a large amount of other players often helps to improve the server, as well as ensuring that ties between players and GMs are kept tight.
• Competitions! - more competitions on the forums, for example:- writing competitions, signature competitions, etc etc.

If you have any other "community building" ideas - then please do, make me aware.

Maybe we can combine a skin contest with an event? Like... Let's say, just as an example, on Halloween, a pumpkin man attacks the Cloud Temple. A skin contest can be held before the event, and the winner's skin will be that Pumpkin man. That's just my idea.

Whouldn't a Pumpkinman be some form of Neromancery/Illustionistic effect though.......just wondering not narking on the idea XD.

Teamspeak is just a click away. I support this whole heartedly. Our community is amazing, so some events would be nice.

Probably because some of us don't have mics, or TeamSpeak lags our computers, or even other reasons. It gives more stuff to the people with more stuff.

Forum Festivals:

I am not sure exactly what these are but the forums always needs attention. The forums are and still is the main source of communication for the whole server and the more events drawing people on here the better.

GM Q&A:

The other week when Native did his Q&A I thought it was very helpful and beneficial to the community. It is also nice to know what goes on behind the scenes even if the responses are just personal thoughts and off-topic. It draws the community into one convocation and makes sense of all the ramblings and thoughts that players discuss amongst themselves. These sort of events are also good to have in the background like a radio of sorts. I can continue with my characters daily tasks while being informed in a productive way.

Competitions:

Skin contests, lore, events, ideas are all things that anyone can take part in with little to no trouble. Taking part is what counts and more ways to do so can only mean positive things.

Teamspeak3:

Can not really comment too much but I am sure there is a market for more TeamSpeak3 events.

Forum Festivities are events relating to the real-life festivity at the time, something along the lines of a murder mystery at Halloween etc.
